LOGINXAVIER’S POV
“How is she?” A masculine voice jolted me from sleep. “Julio… what are you doing here?” Julio? I lifted my gaze, meeting a familiar pair of eyes. My expression hardened as I rose to my feet, facing him fully. His eyes flicked briefly to Ember, still lying on the bed. “Yuli,” I said coldly, “who let him inside?” “Your incompetent guards, perhaps,” Yuli replied with a shrug. My attention returned to Julio. Arrogance practically rolled off him. Julio was my stepbrother. My parents had taken him in during a hunt and raised him as one of us. Instead of gratitude, he grew up craving my position… my title. Something he would never have. Not without bloodshed. “I came to see how your Luna is doing,” he said calmly. “I heard she had an… accident." His jaw tightened. He looked different. Stronger. It had been years since he left the pack. “You came to see Ember?” Yuli stepped forward, brows furrowed. “Since when does Xavier’s business concern you?” Julio didn’t even spare him a glance. “I don’t remember speaking to you, little brother,” he said. “Shouldn’t you be off getting high somewhere?” A low growl rumbled from Yuli’s chest. I ignored it. “You’ve been around long enough for the news to reach you quickly,” I said, my gaze fixed on Julio. “Interesting.” The corner of his lips twitched. “How have you been?” I added. “I didn’t come here for you, Xavier—” “So what is this?” Yuli cut in sharply, pointing between them. “You and Ember? Care to explain what’s going on?” Julio opened his mouth— But Ember stirred. Her eyes fluttered open. “Well, perfect timing,” Yuli muttered dryly, leaning against the wall. “Ember…” Julio stepped closer, his voice softer. “What happened?” I watched her carefully. She looked pale. Fragile. But her eyes…They weren’t on me. They were on him. “I just… hurt my leg,” she said weakly. “Nothing serious.” I narrowed my eyes. “When did you two meet?” I asked, crossing my arms. She glanced at me—then smiled. “A month ago. While I was out hunting. He helped me.” She laughed softly. Too softly. There was something…off about it. “Right,” I said after a pause. “You’ve seen her. Time to leave.” Julio held my gaze for a moment longer than necessary. Then— “Ember… we’ll talk later,” he said quietly. He turned and walked out. Yuli let out a short laugh. “This is getting interesting.” Then he followed. The room fell silent. I pulled a chair closer to the bed and sat. “So…” I said slowly. “You’ve been meeting my brother behind my back?” She didn’t hesitate. “I wouldn’t call it behind your back,” she replied. “You were never interested in what I was doing.” Her gaze met mine. “You wouldn’t have cared.” I leaned back slightly, crossing my arms. “Is that so?” Yes, Xavier. I wouldn’t lie to you.” I nodded slowly. “You need to be more careful,” I said. “Things aren’t the same anymore. You’re carrying a child.” Her hands instinctively moved over her stomach. “You almost lost it.” I watched her in silence. The more I looked… the less I felt. A knock came, and the doctor stepped back into the room. “How are you feeling?” he asked, checking the bandage on her leg. “It’s healing quickly,” she replied. He nodded. “Good. But you must be careful. You nearly lost the child.” “I understand,” she said sharply, her tone edged with irritation. The doctor gave a final nod and left. Silence settled between us. “You should rest,” I said, standing up. “And don’t move around too much until you’ve healed.” “You’re leaving?” she asked. I scratched the back of my neck and nodded. “I have things to attend to.” Her expression darkened. “More important than your child?” The words should have meant something. They didn’t. The more she called it mine… the more distant it felt. “You’ll be fine, Ember.” “If you walk out of this room, Xavier…” her voice dropped, her eyes flashing a bright orange, “you’ll regret it.” I stepped closer, my brows drawing together. “Is that a threat?” “I’m just saying.” I let out a short scoff, waving her off. “You’ve been crossing the line for a while now, Ember. What exactly do you think your threats can do to me?” Without waiting for a response, I turned and walked out. My steps were quicker than usual. Before I knew it, I was standing in front of Mia’s door. My hand rested on the handle. Something felt… off. I couldn’t feel her. Not like before. “Mia…” I called softly. “Can I come in?” Silence. A cold feeling settled in my chest. I pushed the door open. The room was empty. Too quiet. My eyes scanned the space— The bed. The window. The floor. I barged into the bathroom. Nothing. She was gone.XAVIER’S POV “How is she?” A masculine voice jolted me from sleep. “Julio… what are you doing here?”Julio?I lifted my gaze, meeting a familiar pair of eyes. XAVIER'S POV I narrowed my eyes, inspecting the markings on the wooden bow in my hands. It would do. A small exhale left me as I set it down and wiped my hands with a clean cloth. The perfect gift for her… if she would accept it. The soft click of the door pulled my attention instantly. I turned sharply. The room was dim, shadows stretching across the walls—but I could make out a figure standing by the entrance. Mia. My brows drew together. Why is she here… this early? I moved toward her slowly. Something was wrong. Her eyes were open… but unfocused. Blank. She wasn’t seeing me. Heat radiated from her body, and beads of sweat clung to her skin. Sleepwalking. “It… hurts,” she whispered weakly. “Everywhere…” “Mia.” I reached her just as her body gave out. She collapsed into my arms. I caught her quickly, lifting her with ease and placing her gently on the bed. “Mia,” I called, shaking her lightly. She gasped suddenly, her eyes snapping open. The moment she saw
MIA'S POV A knock sounded on the door, pulling me from my thoughts.I didn’t respond.Whoever it was would come in anyway. A few seconds later, the door opened. Xavier stepped in and shut it quietly behind him.“Can we talk? Please?”I ignored him, focusing on the embroidery in my hands. I saw no reason to speak to him. His presence alone unsettled me.He cleared his throat and dragged a chair closer, sitting down with his elbows resting on his knees.“Mia—”Hearing my name from his lips made me pause. My eyes flickered briefly in his direction before I forced myself to continue.“I’ve been thinking,” he said slowly. “There’s something you mentioned… when you first arrived.”Silence.“Your parents—”I froze.“I’m not responsible for their deaths,” he continued. “Neither is my pack.”“Please leave,” I muttered, my voice low.“Just listen to me, Mia. I know your parents were killed in a werewolf attack… but it wasn’t us.”My fingers tightened around the fabric before I dropped it entir
EMBER'S POV The curve of my stomach was no longer easy to hide. I smiled at my reflection, running my hands slowly over the small bump. “Pregnancy looks good on you.” Julio’s hands slipped around my waist from behind, his lips brushing lightly against my shoulder. I let out a soft breath, leaning back into him. “Of course it does,” I said, a small smile playing on my lips. “I look good in anything.” His touch lingered, growing more familiar… more dangerous. “Julio—” I started, but my words caught as he lifted me effortlessly and laid me against the bed. “You’re too tempting,” he murmured. A soft laugh escaped me, but as his lips traced upward, I felt it—that pull again. And that was exactly the problem. “Julio… stop.” I pushed gently against him and sat up, smoothing down my gown. He went still. I avoided his gaze. “I’ll just leave,” he said quietly. I grabbed his wrist before he could move. “Why are you leaving?” “It feels like you’re in love with the Alpha.” I rolle
IA'S POV Before I could sprint off, a firm grip clamped around my wrists, yanking me back. A sharp gasp tore from my throat as I was dragged across the ground, dirt scraping my skin. I twisted and struggled, but his hold was ironclad—completely unbreakable. “Let go of me!” I snapped, my voice strained. The moment the guards spotted us, they rushed forward, pulling me away from him and forcing me back onto my feet. “These guards… what exactly is your job?” the stranger said casually, brushing imaginary dust off his sleeve. I shot him a murderous glare. “Get her inside,” he added with a smirk. “Go on.” One of the guards grabbed my wrist roughly and began dragging me back toward the house I had just escaped. “No—wait! Let me go!” I struggled, but it was useless. “Anybody home?!” the blonde man called out, his voice echoing through the building. My heart dropped. At the top of the stairs stood the Alpha. And beside him—Ember. “Brother!” the blonde man called. I turned sharply,
POV I stood by the window, letting the wind play with my hair. It was the only time I felt anything close to peace since arriving in my enemy's territory. No pain. No visits from the Alpha. Nothing. Just silence. A knock came at the door. Once. Then again. "Come in," I said. An elderly woman walked in, carrying a tray of food. "Take it away," I muttered. "I'm not hungry." "Please, Miss. You haven't eaten in two days-" "Where is your Alpha?" She hesitated, her lips parting before any words came out. Then she straightened slightly. "Should I inform him you wish to see him?" I exhaled slowly. "Yes... then I'll eat." A small smile crossed her face before she nodded and left. I didn't have to wait long. Barely a minute later, there was another knock. And then-He walked in. He paused at the door for a second before closing it gently behind him. And suddenly, regret settled in my chest. Why did I call him? I turned back to the window, refusing to face him. Silence stretch
