Dominic stood rigid, his claws straining against the dark leather of his gloves.

Human, his inner wolf roared, pacing frantically behind his ribs, scratching at his mind to be released. She is a human! But her scent... she smells like meadow-sweet and wild orchids! She is OURS!

Dominic forced his wolf down with absolute, merciless discipline. For three long years—ever since the bloody massacre that had wiped out his family and left his face scarred by dark magic he had closed his heart to the world. He had taken the throne as Alpha Prime through sheer brutality. He needed an heir to secure his pack’s bloodline against the encroaching rebel packs. He had agreed to a human surrogate specifically because he wanted no emotional ties. No mate. No love.

He had not expected her.

She stood near the doorway, trembling like a leaf in a storm, yet her chin was held high. Her long chestnut hair cascaded over her shoulders, framing hazel eyes that sparkled with fear, determination, and an innocent beauty that felt entirely out of place in his dark world.

"What... what is your name? Nora asked softly, her voice shaking slightly.

"You were briefed on the rules," Dominic said, his deep voice cold and unyielding as he took a heavy step toward her. "No names. No questions.

As he stepped closer, the strange magnetic pull between them tightened like an iron leash. Nora’s knees felt weak. It wasn't just fear that made her tremble; it was an overwhelming, unexplainable urge to step forward, to bury her face into the crook of his broad neck and inhale his scent of cedar and dark rain.

"Why do you wear that mask? she whispered, breaking his rule again.

Dominic stopped inches away from her. He towered over her, casting a long shadow that completely engulfed her small frame. "Because what lies beneath it is a beast you do not wish to look upon, little human."

He lifted his gloved hand. Nora flinched slightly, but she didn't run. Slowly, almost against his own will, Dominic brushed a lock of stray hair behind her ear.

The moment his gloved thumb grazed her skin, a jolt of pure static electricity snapped through them both.

Dominic hissed through his teeth, pulling his hand back as if he had touched molten steel. His wolf howled in victory inside his chest.

True Mate. The Moon Goddess gave us a human mate!

No, Dominic thought viciously back to his wolf. She cannot be my mate. A human is fragile. A human will die in the wars to come. She is a vessel. Nothing more.

Dominic turned away abruptly, walking toward a dark mahogany altar resting beside the hearth. Upon it sat a silver bowl and a small obsidian dagger carved with ancient runes.

Human medical practices cannot facilitate a Lycan pregnancy," Dominic said, his tone returning to a flat, emotionless drone. Alpha blood is too potent. Without an ancient blood binding, your body would reject the fetus within days. We must bind your womb to my line.

Nora walked slowly toward the altar, her eyes glued to the dark dagger. How?

A drop of my blood, mixed with a drop of yours, he said, picking up the blade. Without hesitation, he sliced the palm of his leather gloved hand, allowing three thick, dark crimson drops to fall into the silver bowl.

He held the dagger handle out to her. Your turn.

Nora’s hand shook as she took the cold stone weapon. She looked up into his burning golden eyes behind the mask, searching for any sign of mercy. Finding none, she pressed the sharp tip to her thumb until a single bright red drop of blood welled up.

She held her thumb over the silver bowl and let it fall.

The moment her human blood touched his Alpha blood, a hiss of white steam erupted from the bowl. A faint, glowing golden light swirled through the liquid, filling the study with a sweet, hypnotic aroma.

Dominic picked up the bowl. His golden eyes locked onto hers with terrifying intensity.

Once you drink this, the contract is locked, Dominic warned, his voice tight with an emotion he couldn't hide. You will belong to this pack. You will carry my blood. And there will be no turning back.

Nora took a deep breath, clutching the bowl in her trembling hands. I sign my fate.

She raised the silver bowl to her lips and drank.

True to Dominic’s word, a royal physician named Dr. Silas—a soft-spoken elder wolf with gentle hands and kind, silver-streaked hair—had arrived at noon. Her body was ready. Now, the quiet of the estate felt heavy, almost suffocating.Unable to stay trapped inside her room any longer, Nora slipped off the window seat and opened her door.
