Adelaide’s POV

There was silence. One elder coughed and nearly choked on nothing.

The queen mother’s eyes turned quickly to me, but she didn’t smile. “This is not a place for jokes,” she said.

I looked around slowly. “Ah. Then I must have walked into the wrong room. Because from the noise outside, it sounded like celebration.”

One elder quickly cleared his throat. “We were only discussing important matters….”
