DRAKE POV

we stood in the grand courtyard, as a formal line of pack officials seeing off Alpha Kael, and a long line of black cars waited, with their engines purring softly. The only sound that was out of place was from Elara, who was clutching her father’s arm, and crying as if he were being shipped off to war, instead of returning back to his own pack.

I turned slightly and caught Andre and Lucas’s eye and saw my thought been reflected perfectly on their faces…. ‘If she wants to go with him so badly, why doesn’t she just get in the car?’

After a lengthy dramatic display of father-daughter affection, Alpha Kael finally pulled Elara off him and led her by the arm over to me. Then he placed her hand firmly on my arm, with his grip a little too tight for comfort.

“Take care of my daughter, Drake,” he said loudly, so that the rest assembly could hear us. “She is my most precious treasure. And remember, if you ever need my help, do not hesitate to call. My warriors are yours.”
