DRAKE POV

The sleek glass doors of my opulent office reflected the city lights as I leaned against my desk, arm crossed, listening to Andre’s latest escapade.

Lucas, ever the composed one, rolled his eyes while sipping his coffee.

“So then she said, ‘if you are the Alpha, why don’t you command me to stay” Andre smirked, wiggling his eyebrows. “….and I told her I do not need orders—my charm does the work for me.”

I scoffed and lifted my glass mockingly at Andre. “One day, that charm of yours is going to land you in a den of angry she-wolfs with claws.”

Lucas chuckled. “At least Andre here, tries to be smooth. You? You just glare until people…including she wolfs, submit.”

Before I could retort, my phone buzzed. The screen flashed ‘Sharon’ in bold letters. I ignored it, sipping my drink, but the call persisted. I exhaled sharply, but I answered. “Yeah?”

“Drake, baby, where are you?” Her voice was syrup sweet, laced with the tiniest edge of demand….like a bomb waiting to go off.

“I am at the office. With Andre and Lucas.”

“Good. Just checking,” A pause. “I miss you so much baby. When are you coming home?”

“Later” I replied curtly and hung up without another word.

Andre whistled. “Damn it man. You just told her where you were? No restrictions? No games?”

I shrugged. “Currently, she is at Milan for a shoot. What is the harm? She was just been inquisitive.”

Lucas shook his head, grinning from ear to ear. “This is why you two are hopeless. Playboys, the lot of you. Look here, love isn’t about control or games, it’s about finding your mate.” His eyes softened at the thought of Salome—Lucas mate, who is also a medical doctor like he is.

My jaw tightened. “Mate bonds are daily tales. I can’t just hand the Luna title to some random woman fate picks for me. No. The pack deserves better.”

Andre smirked. “Or maybe you are just scared of losing that iron grip on your heart. As an ice Alpha, you have to live up to your name right?”

“I have never seen an Alpha that doesn’t like women” Lucas snorted, “it’s a known fact that you are dating Sharon so no one questions your sexuality.”

A flicker of irritation crossed my face—until an image flashed in my mind. Lillian. The way her dark eyes had widened in the garden, the way she had stood her ground.

Fearfully, but determined.

“Speaking of the past….” I hesitated. “I saw Lillian earlier at the manor’s garden. I bet she went to see her mum.”

Silence.

Andre’s smirk vanished. “Lillian….Lillian? Or which Lillian?”

“How many Lillians do you know?” I snorted and downed the contents of my glass cup down my throat.

“The-we-were-absolute-jerks to her, Lillian?”

Lucas set his cup down and asked with a sad look on his face. “How is she?”

I ran a hand through my hair. “Strong. Defiant. Kinda shaken….beautiful.” The admission slipped out before I could stop it.

Andre whistled again, this time low. “Beautiful…eh, Alpha? Who would have thought you will ever say that.”

“Shut up.” I scowled. “I am going to see her at the conference tomorrow. I owe her an apology.”

Lucas nodded. “Good. It’s been years. We all acted like idiots without knowing the true meaning of life.”

Andre opened his mouth to reply, when the office doors swung open.

Click-click.

High heels echoed on marble. Sharon stood there, draped beautifully in a designer dress that cling to every curve, he blonde hair cascading over one shoulder. Her red lips curled into a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.

“Surprise, darling.”

My spine stiffened. “What are you doing here? I thought you were booked for a shoot this weekend and your flight was tomorrow.”

She glided forward with her chin raised up, ignoring Andre and Lucas. “I finished early. Thought I would check on you.” Her gaze sharpened. “And who is Lillian? Is it someone I know?”

The air turned to ice immediately.

My voice was steel. Staring at her, I replied briskly, “An old friend. Nothing more.”

Sharon’s manicured nail tapped his chest. “Then you won’t mind if I come to this—conference with you, hmm? As your plus one?”

Andre coughed into his fist awkwardly. Lucas looked ready to bolt.

“No.” I replied sternly, my tone leaving no room for argument. “It’s Buisness.”

Sharon’s smile turned venomous…more like leer. “We will see.”

As she strutted out, the door slamming behind her, Andre groaned. “Well. That’s a disaster waiting to happen.” He sat straight with a serious look on his face. “Well, I am sorry to say this, but from the looks of it, your apology is going to go bad.”

“Sharon will recognize Lillian at first sight,” Lucas said with a nod. “She hated her so much back in school, and it’s not everyone’s had a change of heart since then. Tomorrow just got a lot more complicated.”

My fists clenched with a scowl on my face. Because one thing was certain—when Sharon and Lillian were in the same room, war was inevitable.

The one seen with the rogue scouts?”Ben shook his head. “Nothing, Alpha. She was seen twice , then vanished. No trail, it is like she was a ghost.”“Keep looking, “ I said. You were the calm one.”“There is a first time for everything.”I put my glass down. “I was wrong yesterday. To dismiss you. ANDRE POVI left Drake’s office, with the bitter taste of our argument still in my mouth. A shell. You are a shell. He was right. And I had just watched my Alpha and brother break in front of me. I could not fix it. I needed air. I needed to see something good. I needed Lillian. The thought of our dinner later was the only steady thing in my spinning world. But I could not wait. I stopped at a florist in the city, buying a dozen deep red roses. Her favorite. At the hospital, a young nurse smiled when she saw the flowers. “For Dr. Stewart? She is in her office. End of the hall.”“Thank you,” I replied with a stiff smile on my face.I walked down the wuiet hallway, as the scent of the roses mixed with antiseptic. I could already picture her face lighting up with joy. A moment of peace. A reminder of what I was fighting for.I reached her door, my heart feeling lighter for the first time all day. Then I pushed it open.“Lillian, I thought we could—”And then I saw him.Baron. Leaning a

LILLIAN POVI was finishing up patient notes when someone knocked on my office door softly. “Come in,” I called out without looking up.The door opened. “Dr. Stewart? Do you have a moment?”I knew that voice. Smooth, calm, and it sent an immediate chill down my spine. I looked up. Baron stood in my doorway, leaning casually against the door frame. He was dressed impeccably, with a small polite smile on his face. “Baron. This is a hospital. Not a social club,” I said icily.“Believe me, I know,” he said and stepped inside before closing the door softly behind him. “I am here on actual Buisness. A….mutual acquaintance suggested I consult with you. Dr. Wanni mentioned you are the best with complex post traumatic physiotherapy plans.”I stiffened instantly. Wanni. Of course. “She should not have:”“Why not? She is proud of her colleague.” He took a few steps closer, but kept a respectful distance from my desk. “I have an old injury from my….rougher days. It flares up. She thought you co

DRAKE POVI threw myself into work. Piles of boarder reports, trade ledgers, construction permits—anything to fill my mind and stop the images. The look on Lucas’s face. The cold feel of the balcony rail. Lillian’s small, lonely figure in the distance.Someone knocked at my office door. And I ignored it.The person knocked again, harder.“I am busy,” I growled without looking up.The door flew open. Andre stood in the door way, with his eyes blazing.“We need to talk,” he said tightly.“If this is about Elara, save your breath,” I said as I scribbled violently on the report. “My private life is my own. I believe I made that clear.”Andre laughed out bitterly. “No, Drake. It is not about you and Elara. It is about you and Lillian.” My head snapped up and the pen froze in my hand. “What did you say?”Andre strode into the room and slammed the door behind him. “Look at you. You are a shell. you are snapping at everyone. You disappear for hours. You are pushing us away. And it is not bec

LILLIAN POVMy head was pounding the next morning. I fumbled with my medical bag as I rushed out the front door. Salome was already on the passenger seat, sipping from a large travel mug.“You look terrible,” she said, softly.I feel terrible,” I mumbled, with my hands on my temple. Then I took a step towards the car.And Then I froze.A sudden, intense feeling swept over me. A sight prickle at the back of my neck, and a heavy weight on my chest. My heart beat furiously as the hair on my arms stood up.I was being watched.I stopped on the driveway, and turned slowly. My eyes scanned the manicured garden, the empty porch and finally, the dense tree line at the edge of the property. The morning mist hung between the dark pines.“Lillian?” Salome called from the car. “You getting in or are you planning to walk?”I could not answer. The feeling was too strong. It was a deep, magnetic pull, an awareness that crackled in the air. Inside me, Nyla stirred, not with alarm, but with a sudden,

  • THE ALPHA’S PUBLIC REJECTION    CHAPTER 178

ANDRE POVThe night after Lucas had fight with Drake, I found him in the pack house bar. The room was dark, with a single lamp shining at the far end side of hall. Lucas sat alone, with a bottle of whiskey and a half full glass in front of him.“They said You were down here,” I said, as I pulled out a stool. He did not look at me. He just swirled the amber liquid. “Go away, Andre.”“Not happening.” I reached over and took the bottle, then I poured my own glass. “Talk to me. What did she do?”He finally looked at me, with shadows in his eyes. “It is what he did.” he said roughly. “I went to her room. Told her to back off. That Drake was just using her to get over Lillian.”I winced. “You said that to her face.”“Someone had to.” He drained his glass in one gulp. “Drake walked in. Heard the last of our discussion. She played the perfect victim, crying, twisting my words. And he….he chose her. Told me I had no right. Dismissed me. Like I was nothing.”I inhaled deeply. “Moon Goddess. He
