The rain outside the Rolls-Royce picked up again, then settled into a rhythmic patter. Through the partition, the driver’s voice came hushed and urgent: "Sir, we’ve arrived...".

The words died in his throat as the partition lowered. Chloe was leaning back against the leather seat, her hand casually tangled in the thick, silver-grey wolf tail that had sprouted from Silas’s lower back—a side effect of the toxin’s forced shift. She looked at the driver over her shoulder. "Perfect timing. Get your Alpha inside".

"Mrs. Sterling is coming too," Silas rasped, his head tilted back against the headrest, his Adam’s apple bobbing with suppressed hunger.

The driver nodded silently and retreated. In the shadows of the backseat, Silas’s tail twitched, curling possessively around Chloe’s wrist.

"Don’t think that because you helped me once, you can do whatever you want," Silas growled, his fangs glinting in the dark. "One more step out of line, and I will Mark you right here".

It was meant as a threat, but his voice broke with an agonizing, primal heat.

Chloe arched an eyebrow, her fingers trailing intentionally over the softest fur on the underside of the tail. "Really? Because a minute ago, someone was acting like a big, lonely dog begging for a scratch".

Silas’s ears—now pointed and furred—flicked back in shock. "Mention that again, and I’ll—ugh!".

Chloe squeezed the base of the tail firmly, hitting a pressure point she remembered from her mother’s hunting journals. Silas’s breath hitched, and a flush of red crept up his neck.

"You know," Chloe whispered, watching the tail-tip automatically tighten around her arm despite his protests, "some people talk a big game about rejection, but their bodies are much more honest".

Silas yanked the tail back, tucking it beneath his suit jacket as he straightened his tie. "It’s the toxin," he said, his voice regaining its icy veneer. "Once I’ve recovered and the shift recedes, you will pay for this".

Chloe couldn't help but laugh. "To be honest, Silas, before tonight, I thought you were actually scary".

Silence fell over the cabin, save for the rain. Silas stared out at the blurred neon lights of Holloway City before speaking in a low, muffled tone: "Who were you with at the old manor?".

His knuckles were white as he clenched his fists. He told himself she was just a pawn for his revenge, so why did the lingering scent of another man on her skin make his blood boil?.

Chloe didn't answer directly. She leaned forward, closing the space between them. "Instead of worrying about that, why don't you tell me when exactly you were poisoned?".

"At the wedding," he admitted, his golden eyes narrowing as the tail unspooled from the seat crack again. "I didn't realize the extent of it until the toxin hit my nervous system".

"Is that why you snapped at the altar?".

Silas didn't answer, instead focusing on his phone to handle the backlog of work from the day.

"I’m curious," Chloe broke the silence again. "If you hate me and the Vance family so much, why go through with the wedding? Why not just... end everyone there?" She made a gesture like a gun to her head.

Silas’s tail thumped heavily against her hand. "You think slaughtering a room full of the city’s elite is that simple?". "The Hunter factions are everywhere, and public opinion is already a cage for my kind. If I had turned that church into a tomb, every Lycan in Holloway City would be hunted down by dawn".

"So it’s not that you didn't want to," Chloe mused. "It’s that you couldn't".

"You don't have to state the obvious," he snapped.

"High society sounds like a nightmare," Chloe sighed, her fingers absentmindedly twirling the tip of his tail. "But...".

"But what?".

"I was just thinking... if I’m officially Mrs. Sterling now, maybe I can help negotiate a real peace between our kinds?".

Silas lunged forward, his nose brushing her hair, his pupils shrinking into lethal vertical slits. "Peace requires leverage, little hunter. Instead of dreaming about fairy tales, you should start worrying about your own reputation".

He tapped a button on the car’s console, and the integrated screen flickered to life, displaying a breaking news headline.

The internet was exploding.

The screen displayed a trending hashtag: #TheMurderousBride. Right below it: #VanceBrideAssaultsSister.

Chloe clicked the link. A maliciously edited video played, showing her slapping Tiffany with a look of cold fury, while Tiffany’s tear-streaked face was highlighted in a sympathetic close-up.

The comments were a bloodbath:

"Disgusting. She’s a replacement bride and she’s already acting like a queen?".

"Look at her face—she’s terrifying. Silas should divorce her immediately".

"I heard she’s just like her mother—a social climber who used her body to get ahead".

Chloe’s finger froze at the mention of her mother.

"Don't look at it," Silas said, his voice dropping an octave as he rubbed the bridge of his nose. "Comments are poison".

He had ordered the scene to be blacked out, but clearly, someone—a "rat" in the church—had leaked a private recording.

"My PR team has already shut down twelve news outlets," Silas muttered. "But someone is paying ten times the market rate to keep the video trending".

Chloe’s heart skipped a beat. She had thought he was doing business on his phone; in reality, he had been fighting her fires.

"Your behavior is reflecting poorly on the Sterling Corporation," Silas said, clearing his throat as he noticed her staring. "You need to find a way to fix this".

"Can't you just release a statement?" Chloe asked. He was the ultimate witness; if he stood up for her, the rumors would die instantly.

Silas let out a dry, mocking laugh. "You really think you're that important?". He tilted his head, his gaze dripping with calculated cruelty. "You think I’m going to go to war with Tiffany Vance—the city’s darling—for you?".

The car stopped. They were at the gates of the Sterling Estate.

Silas stepped out, holding the door open as he looked down at her. "Little hunter, don't get ahead of yourself". He leaned in, his fingers gripping her chin to force her eyes upward. "Logically speaking, you don't even compare to one of Tiffany’s fingers".

The air turned cold. The wolf tail she had been holding slid out of her grasp, disappearing as Silas reclaimed his composure.

The truth hit her like a physical blow: This was a transaction. Silas hated her. His protection earlier was just property management; his tail's behavior was just a chemical reaction to the toxin.

In this city, she was alone. She had thought the Sterling name might be a sanctuary, but she was just moving from one cage to another.

Chloe took a deep breath, her eyes clearing of any warmth. "Fine. Forget the Sterling PR team. I'll handle my own business".

Silas laughed, a sharp, angry sound. "Handle it? You don't even know a single publicist in this city. I’d love to see you try".

Tiffany Vance reclined in a plush leather chair at the city’s most exclusive med-spa, her eyes glued to her phone. The manicurist was carefully applying a second coat of "Dusty Rose" polish.

"Ugh!" Tiffany gasped, jolting upright so suddenly she nearly knocked over the bottle of topcoat. A streak of wet red polish smeared across her cuticle. The manicurist’s hands began to shake, her head ducked in silent terror.

"Well? Don't just sit there," Tiffany snapped, her voice dripping with casual malice. "You think I want this disaster on my hand?".

"I'm so sorry, Miss Vance... so sorry..." the girl stammered. She was used to Tiffany’s "Princess" tantrums, but the pay from the Vance family kept her silent.

Surprisingly, Tiffany was lenient today. "Whatever. Just fix it. I'm in a good mood". She narrowed her eyes, admiring the digital wildfire she had ignited.

The hashtag #TheSacrificialBrideAssaultsSister was sitting at the very top of the trending charts like a crown. She clicked on the video—her masterpiece of malicious editing. The clip of Chloe’s slap was slowed down, accompanied by a sound effect that made Tiffany’s stumble look like a tragic, graceful fall.

"Miss, look at this..." an assistant whispered, tentatively handing over a cup of coffee.

"Shh," Tiffany held up her freshly painted nails, scrolling through the tidal wave of vitriol directed at Chloe. Every refresh brought new curses. She took a deep breath of the rose-scented air and smiled. The slap she’d taken at the cathedral was being repaid a thousand times over.

She quickly drafted a "sweet" update, playing the victim perfectly: “Thanks for the love, everyone! My sister just has a bit of a temper since no one raised her (crying emoji). The wedding drama is over! Look out for my next vlog—it’s a charity collab with Sterling Corp! (heart emoji)”.

She made sure to tag the Sterling Corporation’s official handle. The comments flooded in: "Tiffany is too good for this world," and "Silas needs to divorce that psycho and marry Tiffany!".

Her triumph was cut short when her assistant coughed nervously. "Miss... look".

A new headline had just air-dropped into the top spot: #ThorneEmpireBacksChloeVance.

Julian Thorne had used his primary corporate account to retweet the original video with a single sentence: “The truth is usually found in what was edited out.”.

The internet imploded. Julian wasn't just commenting; he was releasing the unedited security footage. The new clip showed Tiffany lunging at Chloe with a weapon, her face twisted in a murderous snarl.

The narrative shifted instantly. The hate for Chloe turned into wild speculation about her relationship with Julian. Julian’s latest post was a direct threat: “Anyone responsible for malicious editing better pray I don’t find them.”.

In a side wing of the Sterling Estate, Chloe gripped her tablet, her eyes stinging. Julian was throwing the entire weight of his empire behind her. He was her shield.

"Julian..." she whispered the name like a lifeline. He was right. Even when the rest of the world proved unworthy of her trust, she could trust him.

For a fleeting second, Chloe wanted to forget every title, every duty, and let her logic drown in the churning river beside them. Her fingers knotted into Julian’s dress shirt, the silk bunching beneath her touch. As she looked up at him, her lashes fluttered like the wings of a trapped butterfly.Julian looked down, the raw hunger in his eyes far from extinguished. But he was a man of cold calculation; he didn't throw away his reason."Let’s get you some shoes," he said, the vibration of his chest humming against her fingertips. His voice was forced into a casual tone, but the muscles in his arms were corded with tension, and his pace was intentionally slow—as if he were trying to stretch this embrace into an eternity. In the back of his Maybach, the air was suffocatingly close. Julian leaned over her to set her down into the leather seat, his gaze lingering on hers as his breath ghosted over her skin. Finally, with a visible effort of will, he pulled back and flicked on the overhead

Silas didn't wait for her answer. He dipped his head and bit her lip—hard. It wasn't a kiss; it was a punishment, a jagged marking of territory that left Chloe gasping in pain. He pinned her wrists to the wall, his body a solid, immovable barrier. When he finally let go, Chloe’s lip was swollen, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears, but her gaze remained defiant."You need to take responsibility for this, Silas," she rasped, her voice thick. "I am not a toy you can pick up and drop whenever you're bored. I am the Lady of your House".Silas let out a dry, mocking laugh, his fingers tracing the line of her cheek. "Is that so? And how exactly do you plan to make me take responsibility?". He loomed over her, his shadow swallowing her whole. "Just remember: no matter what I do, you are Mrs. Sterling now. Be obedient. It’s better for both of us".He turned and walked away, leaving her trembling in the cold hallway.Outside, the news of The Heartbeat Chronicles was already eclipsing the pre

  • THE ALPHA'S SACRIFICIAL BRIDE   Chapter 13: Only If You’re Willing

The entire ballroom fell into a sudden, suffocating silence as every camera lens swiveled toward Silas Sterling. Since his debut a few days ago, he had become the city's ultimate obsession—wealthy, mysterious, and lethally handsome.Silas took Tiffany Vance’s hand, his grip tightening as if to make a definitive statement to the world. He faced the crowd with a calm, dark composure and announced, "I will be appearing on the upcoming season of The Heartbeat Chronicles alongside Miss Tiffany Vance".A glass shattered somewhere on the floor as a wave of shock rippled through the guests. The Heartbeat Chronicles was Holloway City's most exclusive reality show—a "dating sim" program designed to build chemistry and public "shipping" for the elite. Silas had just announced he was going on a romance show with his wife’s sister, and he hadn't spared Chloe a single glance. To the public, Chloe—the "Lady of the House"—was now nothing more than a punchline, a mere substitute for the woman Silas ac

  • THE ALPHA'S SACRIFICIAL BRIDE   Chapter 12: The Mark of the Alpha

Silas slammed the fitting room door shut and turned the lock with a final, echoing click. He pinned Chloe against the wall, his massive frame looming over her, heat radiating through her thin clothes."You're learning how to provoke me, little hunter," he growled. "Choosing a dress like that just to see what I'll do?""I'm just exploring my own taste," Chloe lied, her breath hitched. "It’s none of your concern"."None of my concern?" Silas let out a dark, cynical laugh. "When you wear a dress like that, who do you think is going to be watching?" He leaned in, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "Let me remind you, Mrs. Sterling—your body belongs to me. Only I get to look".Chloe tilted her head back defiantly, though her pulse was racing. "And why is that?""Because of this," Silas rasped. He dipped his head and pressed a kiss to her earlobe. It wasn't the rough punishment from before; it was feather-light and agonizingly slow, sending a shiver down her spine. Before she could

  • THE ALPHA'S SACRIFICIAL BRIDE   Chapter 11: The Edge Case

Lycans can wear human skin, but the shackles of the human world always chafe. When their control slips, the beast bleeds through—a tail unspooling, ears flickering into points. These "partial shifts" are the Lycan’s only way to breathe in a world of concrete and steel."Lycans are creatures of instinct. They do not hide emotion; they act upon it."Chloe flipped through her old journals. The handwriting was childish, recorded years ago when she still thought being part of a "Hunter Dynasty" was a heroic calling. She remembered her mother pointing to old bestiaries, gently explaining the hierarchies of the wolf, the fox, and the stag.In the high-pressure environment of Holloway City, only the apex predators survived. The weaker shifters had been hunted to extinction long ago—a fact that had clearly haunted Chloe's mother. Her mother had secretly worked toward a vision of equality, though she died before she could reveal the "third way" to her daughter."I wonder when the old man will f

  • THE ALPHA'S SACRIFICIAL BRIDE   Chapter 10: Your Turn

Chloe looked at the hand offered to her. Just moments ago, it had been tipped with lethal claws; now, the nails were trimmed and blunt."Are all Lycans like this?" she asked, sighing as she rested her wrist in his palm.At the touch of her skin, Silas's fingertips gave a microscopic tremor. He hovered his other hand over the scratches, hesitant to touch her. The dim light turned his grey-silver lashes translucent, casting long shadows over his cheeks."It's not that bad," Chloe said, trying to lighten the mood. "It won't ruin the image of the perfect husband."Silas's ears shot straight up. He ducked down to rummage through the car's medical kit with a clumsy, frantic energy."Hold still," he commanded, opening a tube of cooling gel. His pinky finger twitched as he applied it.Chloe flinched at the cold, and Silas immediately tightened his grip—firm, yet incredibly gentle. It was a side of him she hadn't seen."Did I hurt you?" he whispered, his breath ghosting over the sensitive skin
