Lira's POV

The moment Ronan touched me, I felt the mate bond instantly. There was no mistake, I was mated to the Alpha. Panic overwhelmed me. The tenderness in his expression, the way his thumb grazed my skin as if I were something fragile and precious, was more than I could bear. If I stayed another second, I would never be able to leave.

An Alpha mated to an Atoner was a death sentence for his leadership. When Ronan leaned closer, I snapped out of the shock and ran. I sprinted out of the pack house and far into the woods before stopping, panting and shaken. Guilt filled my chest as I thought about Ronan. The Alpha deserved a better mate, not an Atoner destined to die. I never believed that I would find a mate. After all, who would be unfortunate enough to be bound to someone whose life was meant to end on a sacrificial altar?

I ran until my legs felt heavy and my breath came in ragged, sobbing hitches. Finally, I collapsed against the trunk of an ancient oak, my heart hammering a frantic rhythm against my chest.

"Why?" I screamed silently at the moon, which was beginning to peek through the canopy. "Why would it be the Alpha of all people." I wasn't scared of Ronan himself. I was scared of the bond and what it meant . Because when the pack’s curse grew stronger and imbalance spread through the wolves, Atoners were sacrificed to restore peace. It had been the law for decades.

And I knew that one day, I would be chosen.

Ronan was a good leader. He was strong, fair, and the pack finally had a chance to thrive under him. He deserved a Luna who could stand beside him for decades. He deserved a woman who could give him heirs and strengthen the Silver-Grip bloodline.

I leaned her head against the rough bark, hot tears finally spilling over. Every instinct told me to go back, to crawl into his arms and let him protect me. But I knew the truth.

"I’m sorry, Ronan," I whispered into the darkness. "I’m so sorry", I whispered again as various thoughts run in my head.

Later, while heading home, a beautiful and well-dressed girl approached me. I slowed my pace, my hand instinctively going to the silver mark on my neck.

The girl didn't speak at first. She just looked me up and down with disdain taking in my wretched and dirty appearance that couldn't hide my beauty. She then spoke reeling with jealousy.

“I hear you’re the Alpha’s mate,” she said coldly.

“The way you ran today? Keep doing that. Because if I see you near him again, I’ll kill you.”

The girl was beautiful. She was dressed in a gown of deep emerald silk that hugged a figure many would kill for. Her hair was a waterfall of perfect blonde waves, and her skin looked like it had never known a day of hard labor. I recognized her instantly. This was Elena, the daughter of Elder Dominic, and the woman the pack had whispered was the frontrunner to be Ronan’s future Luna.

I swallowed hard, my throat feeling like it was full of glass. "I don't know what you're talking about."

Elena took a step forward, her heels clicking against the stones. Elena was taller than me, and she used every inch of that height to look down on me "Don't lie to me, Atoner. I can smell him on you. That disgusting bond that should never have existed."

She reached out, her manicured nails digging into my chin as she forced my head up. I flinched, but she didn't let go.

"Look at you " she said in a tone. "You are like a luck charm. You are a girl who was born to die on a stone table so that the rest of us can be safe. Do you really think Alpha Ronan wants you? He is an Alpha so he does what comes naturally. What he felt today was not love Lira. It was just his body reacting strangely not some useless mate bond that you thought it was.

I tried to move but she would not let me go. Her grip was very tight. "If you keep running like you did today that is a good thing " Elena told me,her face very close to me. "Just keep running until you cannot run anymore. Because if I see you near Alpha Ronan again if you are even in the room as him I will make sure that you die sooner than the Elders said you would.. It will not be a quick death", She said.

Elena pushed me away. I stumbled backwards almost falling down.

"He is the future of our pack " Elena said, fixing her dress like it was dirty from touching me. "You are just something that needs to be taken care of. You are, like a debt that we have to pay. Remember who you are, Lira. You are an Atoner so you need to know your place. Alpha Ronan is important. You are not."

I tried to pull away, but her grip was like a vice. “The way you ran today? Keep doing that,” Elena warned, her face inches from my face. “Run, if you so much as breathe the same air as Alpha Ronan. I will kill you myself.

Without another word, Elena turned and vanished into the darkness toward the village, leaving me alone in the cold. The weight of her words felt heavier than the curse itself.

I wished it was just the Alpha's body reacting strangely but I knew it wasn't. I felt the bond. No matter how I badly wanted to believe what Elena said . I knew it wasn't true. I felt the bond.

And as I looked up at the moon, I realized that the hunt for my life had officially begun as I struggle to decide whether to continue working at the pack house or not. Not knowing what would unfold the next day........

  • THE ALPHA'S SACRIFICIAL MATE   Epilogue

Five Years Later Ronan’s POV: The orchards were full of fruit the branches were bending down because of the weight of the fruit. The air smelled like soil and freshly baked bread from the village down below. I was standing on the balcony watching a pup with black fur playing in the tall grass. He was making a pitched noise that made the guards at the gate laugh. He was a boy, very fast and when he changed back into a boy his eyes were a beautiful silver color. "He is trying to catch dragonflies, he has your stubbornness. " Lira said, coming to stand beside me. She looked very happy the purple stains on her hands were gone. She was wearing a gold ring that showed she was the Lunar Empress. "And he has your light," I added, kissing her temple. I put my arm around her. Pulled her close to me. The world was a place now. The Silver-Grip was a place where people could heal. It was the center of a new world where magic and people with wolf blood could live together in harmony. "L

  • THE ALPHA'S SACRIFICIAL MATE   Chapter 41

Ronan’s POVThe Great Hall of the Silver-Grip was silent. The air still suffocating to me as I go through my thoughts. I stood before the mirror in my room staring at a man I hardly recognized. The shiny light of the transformation had faded, leaving me in my skin but the scars looked different now.I looked at my hands. They were clean washed raw with cold water. I could still feel Kaels life slipping away from me.“The shadows were so loud " he had said.I closed my eyes. For a second I was back in the mountain pass feeling his heart stop beating against my blade. I had spent my life preparing to kill monsters. I had never prepared to kill the boy I used to race with in the orchards.I leaned my forehead against the glass of the mirror. I was the leader of the Silver Moon. I had won the Great War. So why did I feel empty? The door creaked open. I did not need to look to know it was Lira. Our connection. A steady golden-white thread vibrating in my chest. Told me everything. She was

  • THE ALPHA'S SACRIFICIAL MATE   Chapter 40

Lira’s POV The silence was the loudest thing about the Lunar Peaks. After the screaming of the Void and the clash of steel, the stillness of the mountain was almost physical. We didn't leave immediately. The wounded were too many, and the exhaustion was too deep. I sat on a flat stone overlooking the valley, my hands resting in my lap. They were no longer glowing, but a faint, pearlescent shimmer remained beneath my skin,a permanent reminder that I was no longer just Lira the servant. Ronan approached from behind, his footsteps heavy. He didn't say anything; he simply sat beside me and pulled my head onto his shoulder. "We lost a lot of good people," he said, his voice raw. He wasn't talking as an Alpha to his pack; he was talking as a man to his mate. "We did," I whispered, thinking of Kael, and the young guards, and the Hollowed who had faded into stardust to buy us time. "But they didn't die for a throne, Ronan. They died for the morning. Look." On the horizon, the first

  • THE ALPHA'S SACRIFICIAL MATE   Chapter 39

Lira’s POV The final confrontation isn't fought on the snow of the peaks, but in the shimmering, distorted reality of the Void. As the Solar Eclipse begins, the sky turns into a cloud of black and fire, signaling the end of the old world and the birth of the new. As our hands stayed locked, Ronan and I were pulled from the physical battlefield into a realm of endless mirrors and swirling violet mist. The Witch stood at the center of a dying star, her form flickering between a beautiful queen and a skeletal horror. Beside her, Dominic now a hollow shell of the Star-Iron and shadow snarled, his presence cold enough to crack the air. "You brought the sun to my doorstep," the Witch hissed, her voice echoing like a thousand dying screams. "But here, in the dark between worlds, the sun is just a memory." Dominic lunged, his movements jagged and unnatural. But Ronan, in his metallic platinum wolf form, met him mid-air. It wasn't a fight of teeth and claws; it was a collision of light

  • THE ALPHA'S SACRIFICIAL MATE   Chapter 38

Lira’s POV The base of the Lunar Peaks was not made of stone, but of calcified shadows. As our exhausted army marched into it , the crimson light from the summit turned the snow into the color of a fresh wound. Ronan stood at the front, his hand gripped so tightly around his sword that his knuckles were white. The death of Kael hung over him like a shroud, but there was no time for grief. The Witch stood upon the highest crag, her stag-skull mask replaced by a crown. She wasn't just a woman anymore; she was a flaw in our world. "The Key has arrived," her voice boomed, vibrating in our very marrow. "And she brings a graveyard with her." With a flick of her wrist, the ground erupted. Thousands of shadow-wraiths—the spirits of every Atoner ever sacrificed—rose from the earth. They weren't the "Hollowed" we had saved; these were twisted by centuries of hate. The battle was a slaughter. Silas and the Winter-Fang were being swallowed by the tide of shadows. Ronan fought like a god pos

The atmosphere in the Great Hall was no longer that of a trial; it was a slaughterhouse. Ronan felt the silver chains digging into his wrists the metal making a pitched painful sound that went through his whole body. He could feel his wolf, strong, whimpering and curled up at the back of his mind.

Ronan's POV The iron door clicked shut and with it the light of my world vanished. I stood in the damp suffocating silence of the tunnel entrance for a moment. Lira's POV The sun came up the morning with a harsh light that made everything look bad. • THE ALPHA'S SACRIFICIAL MATE   Chapter 17

Lira's POV The Black Stone Tablet was still glowing like crazy since we got back from the orchards. It was sitting in the middle of the Great Halls table pulsing with a silver light that was like a warning. "They are here " Kael said, his voice all tight. He was standing by the windows looking
