Chapter 62

ISLA'S POV

I opened my eyes slowly to see the sun pouring in through the windows. I rubbed my eyes with the back of my palm and turned away. Sayora was not in the room. I remember falling asleep in the middle of the room but now I was on the bed. Did Sayora carry me or did she use magic to get me to the bed?

I exhaled and dropped my legs from the bed. There were still tears stain on my cheeks and my throat was sore. I looked down at my feet and kicked them slowly. The fact that Lucien had been in this room hours ago made my stomach turn. I drew in a deep breath to steady myself and stop the tears threatening to run down my cheeks. The room smelt like Sayora’s candles and lavender. There was something else, a strong metallic smell that irritated the back of my throat.

Lucien's voice still rang in my head. It felt like a nightmare now. A punishment. His voice was ragged and he sounded like a broken man while I hid like a coward. He had cried. I couldn't see him but I felt

  • THE ALPHA’S SILENT BRIDE   CHAPTER 65

Chapter 65 TARLYN'S POV I stood by a window staring down at the courtyard. My palms were cold against my skin and that was one way to tell how anxious I was. It's been a while since Kane was dragged to the council like a criminal and I had tried to eavesdrop but it's either nothing was being discussed or everyone suddenly lost their voice. I had run away when I heard feet approaching the door. I couldn't let Kane see me around. If he had a suspicion that I told on him, that would be all the confirmation he needed. Once the Elders started trooping out, I hurried back and waited for Elder Thorne. He was usually the last. “Goodday Elder,” I greeted as I hurried to his side. “Tarlyn,” He looked around quickly and pulled me back into the council room. “What is wrong with you?” His hand was still tightened fast around my arms. I pulled it back. “Don’t hold on to me like some criminal, Thorne,” I adjusted my dress even though I didn't need to. “What have you done, child?”“I am no chi

Chapter 64 LUCIEN'S POV “Lucien, is that clear?” Elder Len asked and I jerked back to reality. Right. We had a matter at hand. What did they mean I had to spend time with every candidate? I didn't want to spend time with any woman who wasn't Isla. “I do not wish to spend time with anyone.I would find Isla.”“And if you don't?” Elder Thorne asked sharply. “I will,” I said calmly. “I will find Isla,” I said again as if trying to convince myself more than I was trying to convince them. “Lucien,” Elder Ari said calmly. She rarely spoke. She was a quiet woman who always had her glasses placed awkwardly on her face. I fixed my gaze on her. “Nobody is asking you to outrightly marry any of these girls. Just spend some time with them. We don't want to impose anyone on you at the end of the day. Every decision the council makes is out of love.” I bit on my lower lip. With Elders like Franc and Ari, it was easy to believe the council has my best interest but with Thorne and Len being the

Chapter 63LUCIEN'S POV I swallowed and tried to keep a straight face. Why would the council summon me by these early hours of the morning? Had they found out that I left the pack in Isla? Did Tarlyn know and out me? I curled my fist. If that was the case, I would make sure she never had the mouth to snitch ever again? I cleared my throat. “Did they say why?” The guards shook their head. I inhaled and ran my sweaty palms across my pants. “Tell them I would be with them shortly.”“Yes Alpha,” They said together and walked away. I mindlinked Callen to meet me in twenty minutes. In the meantime, I had to see my daughter. The door to Elara’s room was slightly ajar when I got there. The smell of lavender hit me and I inhaled deeply. I could hear repeating sentences after her tutor. I knocked on the door briefly. She turned around eagerly and her eyes widened. “Daddy,” She jumped down the chair and ran to me. I picked her up and spun her around. “Hey Princess,” I placed my nose in he

  • THE ALPHA’S SILENT BRIDE   CHAPTER 61

Chapter 61 TARLYN'S POV I turned around for the hundredth time since I laid on my bed. I had not gotten a proper sleep in days and I could not tell when next I would get one. These days, it seemed like my demons had caught up with me and for some reason, they were playing catch in my head. I inhaled and walked to my window. I threw it open and let the wind run through my hair. The pack was pitch dark and quiet. I wondered what Lucien was up to and even Kane. Kane. I scoffed. He would never expect what hit him. The audacity to actually raise his voice and threaten me. I leaned against the window. There was a lazy howl from somewhere in the pack and I heard a lover giggle. I needed to make new connections in the council. I didn't think I could trust Elder Thorne for any much longer. That man moved like a green snake in the grass. Elder Len seemed like a good option but she was very unpredictable. Too unpredictable. I walked to my dresser and pulled out a cigarette. I had not had one

  • THE ALPHA’S SILENT BRIDE   CHAPTER 60

Chapter 60 LUCIEN'S POV The clouds looked like they were opening sleepy eyes to let us peek at the sun. My chest felt tight and the door shutting behind Callen left a dreadful feeling in my chest. The air outside was biting cold but it did nothing to calm the fire raging within me. I exhaled through my mouth as if trying to blow off some steam. I was walking faster than I usually would. My fists were clenched by my side and my jaw was taut like I wanted to grind my teeth in my mouth. Sayora's voice rang in my head and I didn't know if I could be mad at her. She had every right to turn me away just like my people turned her away years ago but I had begged her. I had gone on my knees as a man and not as an Alpha. It wasn't just refusal. It seemed like a knife pushed into my guts and turned around. I could hear Callen walking quickly behind me. “Lucien wait…” His tone was wary. “Can you just slow down?”I didn't slow down. I didn't want to. Callen was always the voice of reason and I
