Chapter 48LUCIEN'S POV “Lucien, you're here,” Yvonne said trying not to sound surprised. She wiped her hands on her skirt and walked to me. “Hello Yvonne,” I said slowly and she squinted. “Have you been drinking, Lucien?” I took off my glasses and she gasped, taking several steps backwards. I knew my eyes were bloodshot. “My goodness,” She rushed forward and held my face in her palms. “Is everything okay? Talk to me please. When was the last time you slept?”“The night before she left,” I muttered and tears formed a thin film over Yvonne's eyes. “But I’m fine. I just need to find her.” “Shut up,” She sniffed. “You are not fine. Look at you. You would fall sick if you continue like this. Do you think she would be happy seeing you this way?”“I just need her to come home,” My throat burned and I could taste the tears I refused to shed. “She would come home, baby. She will,” Yvonne pulled me in for a hug. “I would give you something to help you sleep.”I walked into the infirmary
Chapter 47TARLYN'S POV Dust clung to my clothes and hair as I rode back to the pack. I could even taste it and see it on my lashes. I was going to need a serious bath. “Where are you coming from?” Callen said as I returned the horse to the stable. I was startled and tried to remain calm. I shut the door and turned to him. “I didn't know you were the new employee here,” I kissed my teeth and turned to walk out but he grabbed me by my arm. I looked down at his hand on mine. “Let me go.” “Not until you tell me where you took that horse too. The last time…”“I took it for a run. Racing.” His eyes thinned. “You know that's a lie.”“Tell me about it,” I yanked my arm away. “Whatever you're planning will come back to bite you.”I rolled my eyes. “Tell that to your little princess.” He chewed on his inner lips and walked out of the stable. I needed to find another way to get around because I knew Callen. He was watching me now and might place orders that don't let me get away with an
Chapter 46 ISLA'S POV I opened my eyes slowly and the lights blinded me for a few seconds. I closed my eyes and slowly opened them. I was staring at an old ceiling. It seemed like it could use a fresh coat of paint and a few repairs. I tried to sit and pain shot down my spine. I froze and winced. My body didn't seem like mine. It felt too heavy for me to move. I moved one hand and then another before trying to sit again but it didn't help. I turned my neck to scan the room. Where was I? My head banged and I couldn't even remember coming here. I closed my eyes trying to remember how I left the infirmary. The smell of eucalyptus filled my nostrils. Slowly, the memories started returning until they pressed around me. I felt like I was drowning beneath them. My eyes shot open and I snapped into a sitting position. The pain that coursed down my spine made me grit my teeth. “Easy,” I heard a voice, smooth as silk. I turned to the door and a woman stared back at me. “You were badly injure
Chapter 45 TARLYN'S POV Everyone had a long face around here and I didn't like it. Even the sky had been gray like it had been mourning Isla’s disappearance. I sit on my bed running my fingers through the sheets. I looked at the clock above my bed. I had to meet Kane in about two hours. I made a sound in my throat as I tapped my foot on the ground. Where could Isla have truly gone to? Who took her and why? I hated that someone had been faster than me. A part of me was glad she was gone but another part wanted her to be gone by my hands because only then would I be assured of a clean job. Whoever took her might bring her back or she might wander back. I kissed my teeth. I had to find her. I hear a scream from the courtyard and rushed to my window. I craned my neck trying to see what was going on there. I threw on a robe and ran down the stairs to the courtyard. Serena was in the courtyard staring at the guards wide-eyed. “What do you want from me? I didn't do anything,” Her lips qu
Chapter 44ISLA'S POV The silence at the infirmary was loud. It felt like it was screaming at me. Like it was pushing the walls closer. The smell of bleach, antiseptic and herbs ran up my nose. I coughed and opened my eyes slowly to see Serena looking at me. “You’re awake,” She whispered and took my hand in hers. I stared at her and for a while, her features blurred. I held her, wishing she would keep me grounded but I was slipping. Slipping away fast from reality. I wanted to ask for Lucien. I had not seen him in a while and I knew he was having a difficult time with the elders. I had overheard Yvonne talking to him over the phone. Yvonne. She made my stay here easier but I was tired of being a burden to everyone. I am tired of everyone making hard decisions because of me. First, Kyle and now Lucien. The same old story. Yvonne tried her best for me. Her hands were warm when she cleaned me and fed me but I could sense her growing weary. She never said a word but I sensed her hesitat
Chapter 43 TARLYN'S POV I walked away from the training grounds sore between my legs but my heart full. Everything was falling into place for me and soon no one would be capable of stopping me. I wasn't ready to return to my room just yet. I would hover by the grounds. See the look on people's faces. Hear what they were saying. I passed by the court and I saw them in groups discussing in hushed tones. Some look confused, others worried and others just searching for different versions of the gossip.I smiled and nod to myself as I headed for the garden. Callen is usually there by this time. I needed to see what information I could get from him. As I approached the garden, I heard someone whimpering. I slowed down and ensured to stay hidden. That's when I saw them. The annoying girl who was always by Isla. I closed my eyes trying to remember her name. Serena. She leaned into Callen's shoulder crying and he ran a hand across her back. I felt something crawl up my spine. Jealousy? She
