I couldn't take my eyes off the dagger.

It wasn't made of steel.

It wasn't even truly solid.

The silver blade pulsed like living magic, embedded deep within Kael's chest. Every heartbeat sent dark ripples through it, spreading across his body before disappearing beneath his skin.

Kael remained frozen where he stood, his golden eyes locked on mine.
