Chapter 84

***Evangeline's POV**

"Leave us," Silas commanded the shadow wolves.

His voice was calm, but I could see the fury burning in his silver eyes. The wolves bowed their massive heads and melted back into the darkness, leaving us alone in the hallway with the dead servant between us.

I knelt beside the girl's body, my hands shaking as I touched her cold face. She couldn't have been older than sixteen. Her eyes stared at nothing, and there was blood trickling from her ears.

"I killed her," I whispered.

"The shadows killed her," Silas corrected, stepping closer. "The part of you that's fighting what you are. This is what happens when you resist your true nature."

"My true nature isn't murder."

"Isn't it?" He knelt beside me, his fingers gentle as they lifted my chin. "You are the Shadow Queen, Lunara. Death follows in your wake. It always has."

I jerked away from his touch. "Don't call me that."

"It's who you are." His voice was patient, like he was talking to a confused child. "A

Chapter 85***Silas's POV**Her scream still echoed through the cave, but it wasn't the sound that haunted me, it was the silence after.I stood in the Sacred Cave, watching the servant girl's blood pool between ancient stones. The liquid began to glow, pulsing with silver runes. The realm always recognized betrayal. It always did.But the girl's death meant nothing compared to what came before it. Evangeline had looked me in the eyes and chosen him. Again.Three hundred years. Three hundred years of empty halls and cold nights, of seeing Seraphina's face in every shadow. Three hundred years of waiting for her soul to find its way back to me. And when I finally held her reincarnation in my hands, when I finally had my queen within reach, she spoke his name like it meant something.Like I was nothing more than a shadow behind her eyes.My fist crashed into the cave wall. The impact sent cracks racing through the stone like lightning. The torches flickered wildly as my power surged, sha

Chapter 83***Evangeline's POV**Pain woke me from my sleep. Not the sharp sting of a cut or the dull ache of a bruise. This was something deeper, something that felt like ice crawling through my veins and fire burning in my bones at the same time.I sat up in my bed, gasping. The silk sheets were soaked with sweat, and my hands shook as I pressed them to my chest. My heart was racing, but each beat felt wrong. Too slow. Too cold. The crown sat on my nightstand, its black crystal surface reflecting the purple moonlight streaming through my window. Even without touching it, I could feel its weight pressing down on my mind.Something was happening to me. Something terrible.I stumbled to my feet and walked to the mirror on the far wall. The woman looking back at me made my blood freeze. My eyes were no longer the silver they had become when I was crowned. They were completely black. Empty. Like looking into a void that went on forever. And when I opened my mouth to scream, no sound came

Chapter 82***Ronan's POV**The Shadow Gate stood before me like a doorway to nightmares.I had never seen anything so terrifying and beautiful at the same time. The ancient archway rose from the forest floor, carved from black stone that seemed to drink in the moonlight. Strange symbols covered every inch of its surface, glowing with purple fire that made my eyes water when I looked directly at them. And beyond the archway... nothing. Just swirling darkness that moved like it was alive."This is it," Maeve whispered beside me, her face pale in the eerie light. "The portal to the Shadow Realm."I pulled the Nightbane moonstone from my pocket. The crystal pulsed with silver energy, responding to the power radiating from the gate. My hands shook as I held it. Everything depended on this moment. Everything."How long do we have?" I asked."Minutes," Maeve replied, checking the ancient watch she wore. "The gate only stays active for a short time. We need to activate it now."I stepped tow

Chapter 81***Ronan's POV**The Nightbane mansion had never felt so foreign.I crouched behind the massive oak tree in our back garden, staring at the house where I'd grown up. Every window, every door, every stone in the walls held memories of a life I was about to betray. My hands shook as I checked my watch... 11:47 PM. Tomorrow night would be the real test, but first I needed to get what we came for.The mansion was dark except for two windows on the second floor. My parents' bedroom, where they slept peacefully, unaware that their son was about to become a thief. The irony wasn't lost on me. They'd spent years teaching me about honor, about duty, about protecting what belonged to our family.Tonight, I was going to steal from them.A shadow moved near the side entrance, and I tensed until I recognized the familiar figure. Marcus stepped into the moonlight, his weathered face grim with determination."The guards are handled," he whispered as he reached my hiding spot. "Sleeping dr

Chapter 80***Silas's POV**The door to my chambers slammed shut behind me with the force of a thunderclap.I stood in the darkness, my chest heaving like I'd run a thousand miles. My hands shook with rage so pure it felt like poison in my veins. The image was burned into my mind, silver lightning crackling between us, pushing me away from her like I was nothing. Like I was some stranger trying to steal what didn't belong to me.But she did belong to me.I had found her. I had brought her here. I had watched her transform from a broken little girl into the magnificent queen she was meant to be. I had loved her across centuries, across lifetimes, across the very fabric of reality itself. And still, that pathetic bond remained.I grabbed the nearest object, a crystal vase filled with shadow roses and hurled it against the wall. It exploded in a shower of black glass and wilted petals, but the sound wasn't enough. Nothing would be enough to ease the burning in my chest."She's mine," I s
