LOGINLILY'S POV
I used to think love was the safest place in the world. I used to think that when you found someone who saw your flaws and still chose you, you could breathe freely, knowing they’d never turn their back on you. That’s what Aiden was to me. Or at least, that’s what I believed. Three years ago, before the art exhibition meeting, I met him the very first time on a rainy Tuesday. I remember because my umbrella broke, and I ran into the nearest café dripping wet and furious. He was there sitting at the corner table, tapping on his laptop, sipping black coffee. He looked up, smiled, and offered me his extra napkin. “You look like you fought the rain and lost,” he said, his voice deep and calm. I laughed, embarrassed. “I think the rain won this round.” That was how it started. He wasn’t rich. In fact, he was struggling. He told me about his dreams… how he wanted to start a tech firm, how he just needed one good break. And I… I believed in him. I helped him draft proposals, edited his pitches, stayed up late with him while he worked. When his company finally got its first investor, he said I was his good luck charm. I thought it was love. I thought I was his reason to rise. But now, standing in front of his apartment door, that memory felt like a cruel joke. Because the man who once promised to protect me was the same man who destroyed me with someone who shared my blood. I didn’t plan on confronting him but I couldn’t keep the questions buried anymore. When he opened the door and saw me, his expression shifted from surprise to guilt in seconds. “Lily,” he whispered. “You shouldn’t be here.” he said as I scoffed in disbelief. I stepped inside without waiting for permission. “I need to understand, Aiden. Why?” He ran a hand through his hair, pacing. “Lily, please, let’s not do this here. You’re upset…” “Upset?” I laughed. “You slept with my sister. ‘Upset’ doesn’t even begin to cover it.” He froze as his eyes darted away from mine. For a moment, the silence between us was heavier than any word he could have said. “I didn’t mean for it to happen,” he said finally. “It was a mistake…” “Don’t,” I snapped. “Don’t insult me with that word…Mistakes don’t happen twice, Aiden…Or three times.” His lips parted, but he didn’t speak. That silence told me everything. I stared at him, disgusted. “You said you loved me..you looked into my eyes every morning and told me I was your everything…Was that all a lie too?” He shook his head, tears gathering in his eyes. “No. I loved you, Lily. I still do but…” “But?” I stepped closer. “There’s a ‘but’? You loved me but you touched her? You loved me but you betrayed me in the worst way possible?” His jaw tightened. “You don’t understand…she..she was there..you were always busy, and…” I slapped him before I even realized it. The sound echoed through the room. He staggered back, clutching his cheek, his eyes wide. “Don’t you dare blame me for your weakness,” I said, my voice shaking. “I worked hard because I was building a future for us. For you…You had nothing when I met you, Aiden. Nothing!! and I stayed….I helped you stand on your feet. And this is what I get in return?” He looked away. “I didn’t mean to hurt you, Lily.” “Then what did you mean to do?” I asked quietly. “Destroy me slowly?” He ran his fingers through his hair again, his voice breaking. “It wasn’t supposed to go this far. It just… happened.” I laughed bitterly. “You and Adira really love that line, don’t you? It just happened.” He stepped closer, reaching for my hand, but I pulled away like his touch burned. “Don’t touch me,” I said, backing up. “You’re poison, Aiden.” His face hardened. “You’re angry now, and I get it, but don’t pretend you were perfect, Lily. You always wanted control…over my work, my friends, everything.” I stared at him in disbelief. “Are you seriously trying to play the victim right now?” He sighed. “Maybe if you’d seen how lonely I was, you’d understand…” That was when I snapped. I grabbed the glass of water from his table and threw it across the room. It shattered against the wall, the sound slicing through the air. “You want loneliness?” I shouted. “Then live with it because from today, I’m gone…you will never hear my name again.” He stood frozen, guilt painted all over his face, but I didn’t care anymore. I turned to leave, but before I opened the door, I paused and looked back at him. “You destroyed something you’ll never find again,” I said. “And when you realize that, it’ll be too late.” His lips parted, but no words came out. He just stood there… a man who’d broken something beautiful and didn’t know how to fix it. I left. And for the first time, I didn’t cry. That night, I lay on my bed staring at the ceiling, my mind replaying every moment we’d shared… the laughter, the late-night talks, the way he used to hold me like I was home. Now, those same memories felt like knives in my chest. How could love turn into ruin so easily? I thought I had reached my limit of pain, but something inside me told me it wasn’t over yet. There was still something Aiden hadn’t told me, a piece of truth buried deeper than betrayal. And when I find it… I swear, I won’t break this time. I’ll burn everything that tried to break me. Because love might have turned me weak once… but pain was teaching me how to be powerful.LILY’S POV“Bring it on, Aiden…I ain't scared of you.”The words came out colder than I felt, but I refused to let him see the unease crawling beneath my skin.We were still standing outside the building where he had stopped me, his expression unreadable, his eyes fixed on mine like he was trying to break through every wall I had carefully built. For a second, neither of us moved. Then suddenly, his hand shot out and gripped my arm hard as a sharp pain shot through me.I winced instantly.“Aiden…”His fingers tightened.“You think this is funny?” he asked, his voice low and dangerous. “You think humiliating me has no consequences?”“Let go of me!” I snapped, struggling against him.People were passing nearby, but no one stopped. No one looked closely enough to notice the way his grip dug painfully into my skin.“I said let go!”His jaw tightened, but he didn’t release me immediately.“You and Ethan think you’ve won,” he said. “You think because he got released, everything ends ther
LILY’S POVThe sound of sirens stayed with me long after Ethan was taken away.Even when the flashing lights disappeared from the street and when the neighbors retreated behind their curtains and when the house fell into a terrible, hollow silence..I still heard them.My hands wouldn’t stop shaking.I stood frozen on the porch, staring at the empty space where Ethan had been moments earlier, my fingers still tingling from the last squeeze of his hand.“It’ll be fine," he mouthed.I didn’t believe him.Inside the house, Esmeralda paced like a caged animal, her heels clicking sharply against the floor.“This is ridiculous,” she snapped. “Absolutely ridiculous….They had no right to drag him out like that.”“He hit someone,” I said quietly, my voice barely sounding like mine. Her pacing stopped.“And do you know why?” she asked, turning to face me. “Because that man has been tormenting you…because he provoked him…because he wanted this.”I wrapped my arms around myself.“This is my faul
LILY’S POVThe sound of glass shattering stayed with me long after the impact had been made.It clung to my ears, sharp and unforgiving, like a warning I couldn’t shake off.Neither of us touched it anymore, but it felt like a third presence in the room watching, waiting.“This is just the beginning… two can play this game and I am a better player.”My fingers dug into my sleeves.“Who do you think did it?” I asked quietly, breaking the silence.I had my suspicions but I didn't want to dwell on it because I could be wrong.Ethan stood near the window, his back to me with his shoulders rigid. He looked unsettled and looked like a man holding himself together by sheer force.“I don’t know,” he said after a long pause. “But they wanted us unsettled.”I swallowed. “They clearly succeeded.”He turned to look at me then. His eyes softened when they met mine, and for a moment, the anger slipped away.“I won’t let anything happen to you, Lily,” he said firmly.Something about his tone made
LILY'S POV “Heyyyy…isn't this my trophy wife..” he slurred. This was definitely not a sight to behold.“What's going on Ethan?? Where have you been and you stink so badly." I said as I couldn't help but scrunch my nostrils from the alcohol smell oozing out of him.“I just went for a drink…I am fineeee." He said as he slurred his words.“Are you sure you are fine?? Because you don't look fine." “Go to bed, lillyyy…I am fineeee." Ethan didn’t fall asleep immediately and I didn't go to bed as he instructed. He sat on the edge of the couch, a glass dangling loosely from his fingers, his head tilted back, eyes half-closed like he was fighting something heavy inside him.“Ethan?? What's the matter?? Talk to me.." “I loved her,” he said suddenly. The words were slurred but honest.I stiffened where I sat beside him.“Adira,” he continued, laughing bitterly. “I really loved her.” he continued as my heart clenched."I know you did.” I said hoping my words could bring some sort of comfort
LILY'S POV “Do you like what you see?”My mouth hung open. Not slightly, not politely but fully.I had never seen someone so big down there like that before and heat suddenly flushed in me.I stood there, frozen in the doorway, staring at Ethan as if my mind had forgotten how to function. Water droplets slid down his chest, tracing lines I shouldn’t have been noticing. His hair was damp, his towel nowhere in sight, and he looked completely unbothered by my presence.Meanwhile, my brain was screaming.I blinked once.Twice.And then reality slammed into me.“Oh my God!” I yelped, spinning around so fast I nearly twisted my ankle. “I’m so sorry…I didn’t know you were..”Behind me, I heard a low chuckle.A calm, amused chuckle.“Lily,” Ethan said, clearly entertained. “Relax.”I squeezed my eyes shut, my face burning. “I shouldn’t have come in…I thought you weren’t here…I’ll just…leave.”“Are you sure about that lily??" Ethan asked as I felt more embarrassed.I reached for the door
LILY'S POV The moment I saw Esmeralda being manhandled, I first assumed he was a thief or maybe an assassin but he looked too scrawny to be one and I knew that this was something I could definitely handle myself. My body moved before my mind could catch up.The moment I saw the stranger’s hand gripping Esmeralda’s arm so tightly, something hot and fierce rose inside my chest. Anger and protectiveness collided at once.“Let her go!” I shouted as I rushed forward. The man turned sharply, surprise flashing in his eyes. Before I could reach Esmeralda, he shoved me hard in the chest. I stumbled backward, nearly losing my balance. It seemed I was wrong because he was strong as hell..I definitely judged this book by it's cover.“Stay out of this.” he snapped. My heart pounded, but I refused to back down.“Touch her again and I’ll scream so loud this entire house will wake up.” I warned, my voice shaking but loud. “And when my fiancé comes down, you won’t walk out of here the same way yo
