Chapter 134

Tristan

Thirty minutes later, we were both disheveled and trying to make ourselves look presentable again.

"You said you'd be quick," I muttered, tucking my shirt back into my pants and running a hand through my hair.

"I tried," she said, her voice still breathless as she smoothed down her skirt and then her hair. "It's not my fault you're so good at what you do."

I couldn't help but smile at that. Even in the middle of this crazy situation, she could still make me smile. Still make my chest feel warm and full.

"Go back to your office," I said, straightening my collar one last time "We need to at least pretend we were working."

She nodded and unlocked the door, peeking out into the hallway like some kind of spy.

When she was satisfied the coast was clear, she slipped out, but not before throwing me one last heated look over her shoulder.

I watched her go, then collapsed into my office chair with a groan. My body was starting to feel the strain of seven days of near-consta

  • THE BIKER ALPHA WHO BECAME MY SECOND CHANCE MATE   I PLACED MY HAND OVER MY STOMACH

Chapter 141AthenaBut I couldn't shift. Not with these men here. They didn't know about the baby, and if I shifted, they'd see how protective my wolf was of my stomach. They'd figure it out.And what if I lose control again, I can't. I'll have to hold on till help comes.I pushed my wolf down, fighting the urge to let her free. Not yet. Not unless there was no other choice. The men attacked again, all at once this time.Sarah took on two, her movements still fluid despite her injuries. She was amazing to watch, even now. Every strike had purpose, every block was precise.I faced the other two, trying to keep them both in my line of sight while protecting my stomach. One of them swung at me and I ducked, but the other caught me from the side. His fist connected with my ribs and pain exploded through my torso.I gasped and stumbled, and he pressed his advantage. Another hit to my side, careful to keep me turned so he could strike at my ribs and back.I managed to slash at him with my

Chapter 140"Yes," she said, moving away from the window. We both stood there, frozen, listening.Another noise. Like someone stepping on gravel."Sarah," I whispered. She came closer to me, and we both stared at the front door. The doorknob started to turn.My heart was pounding so hard I thought it might burst out of my chest. The door was locked. They couldn't get in. We were safe. But then I heard the sound of glass breaking from the kitchen.Someone was in the house. The sound of breaking glass from the kitchen seemed to echo through the entire house. For a split second, neither Sarah nor I moved. We just stood there, frozen in shock and disbelief. Then Sarah's entire demeanor change, it was like watching someone flip a switch. The gentle mother who'd been playing with her kids moments ago vanished, replaced by someone harder, sharper, more dangerous. She moved so fast I barely saw her grab one of the knives from the coffee table."Get behind me," she said, her voice completely

  • THE BIKER ALPHA WHO BECAME MY SECOND CHANCE MATE   THESE BABIES, BORN AND UNBORN, WOULD BE SAFE.

Chapter 139AthenaThe house felt too quiet after they left. Even with Lily and Liam playing in the corner, even with Sarah moving around picking up toys, the silence felt heavy and suffocating.I stood by the window, watching the empty driveway where Tristan's car had been just minutes ago."Athena," Sarah said softly. "Come sit down.""I'm fine," I said, but I didn't move from the window."You're not fine," she said. "And that's okay. But standing there staring out the window isn't going to bring them back any faster."I knew she was right, but I couldn't seem to make my feet move. All I could think about was Tristan running toward danger. Orion facing down rogues. Derek fighting alongside them.Fifteen rogues. Maybe more. Those weren't good odds."Mama, I'm thirsty," Lily said, tugging on Sarah's shirt."Okay, baby," Sarah said. "Let's get you some water."She went to the kitchen and I finally forced myself to move away from the window. I went to lock the front door like Orion had

Chapter 138AthenaTristan opened the door and there they were. Orion with his arm around Sarah, their two kids bouncing excitedly on the porch. Liam was in Sarah's arms, while Lily, was tugging on Orion's hand."Uncle Tristan!" Lily squealed, launching herself at him.He caught her easily, swinging her up into his arms. "Hey there, love."Liam reached out his chubby arms toward Tristan. "Tis! Tis!""He's been saying your name all morning," Sarah said with a laugh as Tristan took Liam too, somehow managing to hold both kids."Come here, you," I said, reaching for Liam. He came willingly, wrapping his little arms around my neck.Sarah came in next, carrying a dish covered with foil. "I know you said not to bring anything but I made my mac and cheese anyway.""You didn't have to do that," I said, taking it from her with my free hand while balancing Liam on my hip."I wanted to," she said, hugging me with one arm. Orion was the last one in, and he ruffled my hair the way he'd been doin

  • THE BIKER ALPHA WHO BECAME MY SECOND CHANCE MATE   ORION IS GOING TO BE AN UNCLE

Chapter 137AthenaThe drive to work was comfortable. We didn't talk much but it wasn't awkward. Just two people who'd learned to be at ease in each other's presence. When we pulled into the parking lot, I saw Orion's truck already there."He beat us again," Tristan said."He always does," I replied. We walked into the building together and went our separate ways to our offices. Mine was between Tristan's and the conference room, close enough that I could slip away to see him when I needed to.I'd barely settled at my desk when the familiar warmth started building again. I tried to focus on the invoices in front of me, but my mind kept drifting to Tristan down the hall.I lasted maybe thirty minutes before I gave up and headed to his office.I knocked once and let myself in, closing the door behind me.Tristan looked up from his computer, and a slow smile spread across his face. "That was faster than yesterday.""Shut up," I said, but I was smiling too as I walked over to him.He push

  • THE BIKER ALPHA WHO BECAME MY SECOND CHANCE MATE   THIS IS EVERYTHING I DIDN'T KNOW I COULD HAVE AGAIN

Chapter 136AthenaMara smiled. "Good. Now, Athena, you're going to need to rest more. No strenuous activity for a while. And the arousal symptoms should start easing within a week, but until then, just be patient with yourself."I felt my cheeks heat up but I nodded. "Okay."She stood up. "Do you have any questions?""Is it safe?" I blurted out. "For us to... you know. Given what happened before."Mara's expression softened with understanding. "It's perfectly safe," she assured me. "The trauma you experienced before was from external force, not from intimacy with your mate. Just be gentle and listen to your body. If something doesn't feel right, stop. But normal intimate activity won't harm the baby."I felt some of the tension leave my shoulders. "Okay. Thank you.""Anything else?" she asked."How soon will we know if everything is okay?" Tristan asked. "If the baby is healthy and growing properly?""I'll be able to sense more at the next visit," she said. "But so far, everything f
