Chapter 86

Before he could answer, I heard someone behind me clear their throat. I turned to see three of the riders I'd beaten, all of them significantly larger than me and none of them looking particularly friendly.

"Nice race," the leader said, but his tone suggested he meant anything but congratulations.

"Thank you," I replied carefully, suddenly aware that we were standing in a more secluded part of the racing center. The main crowd was celebrating closer to the track, leaving this area relatively empty.

"Funny thing, though. We've been asking around about you. Nobody seems to know much about the mysterious female racer who showed up out of nowhere and started winning everything."

My mouth went dry. This was exactly the kind of attention I'd been hoping to avoid by keeping my identity hidden behind the mask.

"I'm just here to race," I said, trying to keep my voice steady while my heart began to pound.

"Are you?" The man stepped closer, and I could smell alcohol on his breath mixe

  • THE BIKER ALPHA WHO BECAME MY SECOND CHANCE MATE   GIVING UP WASN'T AN OPTION WHEN EVERYTHING THAT MATTERED WAS ON THE LINE.

Chapter 114Tristan"I'm sorry," I said quickly. "I'm not trying to undermine you guys bond. I'm just... scared. I'm terrified that we're going to lose her to this thing.""We won't lose her," Orion said. But his voice didn't sound convinced.Sarah stood up and walked over to me. She put her hands on my shoulders and made me look at her. "Athena is the strongest person I know," she said. "If anyone can beat this, it's her."I wanted to believe her. But strength hadn't been enough in that cave. Athena's own strength had almost killed her."What did your great-grandmother do?" I asked Orion. "When the power tried to take over?""Mom never said it tried to take over," Orion said. "She said our great-grandmother learned to live with it. To coexist with it.""Athena can't coexist with something that wants to kill people," I said."Maybe it doesn't have to be about killing," Sarah said. "Maybe there's another way to use it."I shook my head. "You didn't see what it did to Daxon and Seraphi

  • THE BIKER ALPHA WHO BECAME MY SECOND CHANCE MATE   ESPECIALLY WHEN IT HAS TO DO WITH ATHENA

Chapter 113Tristan's POVThe drive to Orion's house felt like it took forever. I kept my fingers pressed against Athena's neck, checking her pulse every few minutes. Her heartbeat was weak but steady. Her breathing was shallow but consistent. She wasn't getting worse, but she wasn't getting better either.I tried not to think about what would happen if she never woke up. Or worse, what would happen if she woke up and that thing was still inside her.The car pulled into Orion's driveway and I saw Sarah on the front porch. She'd been pacing, I could tell from the way she immediately stopped moving when she spotted us. Her face was pale and her hands were shaking. The moment Orion stepped out of the car, she ran to him. She threw her arms around his neck and buried her face in his shoulder. I couldn't hear what she was whispering to him, but I saw his whole body shake. He held her tight and closed his eyes like he was trying to absorb some of her strength. After a minute, she pulled b

Chapter 112 Tristan's POVBut she was already there, standing inches from Orion with her hand raised toward his face and deadly energy crackling between her fingers like lightning about to strike.Orion didn't flinch and didn't step back even though he knew that one touch from her would drain the life right out of him. Instead he looked directly into her silver eyes and when he spoke his voice carried more Alpha authority than I had ever heard from him before."I am your Alpha and your brother," he said and each word rang through the cave like a bell. "I command you to shift now."The power behind his words hit hard, I felt it slam into Athena through our bond with enough strength to make her entire body jerk backward. This wasn't just an Alpha command, this was something deeper and more primal, the kind of authority that reached into the very core of what made us wolves.I knew she wouldn't be able to not succumb. But I still prayed she did, she needed to.She screamed and it was

Chapter 111TristanI could feel my life slipping away.It wasn't slow or gentle like I had always imagined death might be. It was a burning, tearing pain that sank into my bones and dragged every ounce of strength out of me with ruthless efficiency. My chest felt hollow and my head was so light I thought I might be floating somewhere between life and death. The sensation was unlike anything I had ever experienced as an Alpha. All my life I had been the strong one, the one who protected others, the one who never showed weakness. But here I was, crumpled on a cave floor, feeling more helpless than I had ever felt in my entire existence.I wanted to scream but my throat wouldn't work properly and all that left my mouth was a broken whisper."Athena..."It was weak and shattered but it was all I had left to give. The sound of her name on my lips felt like a wish, like maybe if I said it enough times she would remember who she used to be.Her hands were still on me, still drinking me

  • THE BIKER ALPHA WHO BECAME MY SECOND CHANCE MATE   THEN I FELT LIFE DRAINING OUT OF ME.

Chapter 110TristanAthena was in the center of the chamber, but she looked nothing like my mate. Her hair had changed from the dark brown I loved to run my fingers through to a brilliant gold that seemed to glow with its own light. Her eyes were no longer the warm hazel that used to look at me with love and trust. Instead, they burned with a cold silver fire that made my chest tighten with fear.Massive chains lay melted on the stone floor around her, the metal twisted and warped like it had been exposed to impossible heat. Whatever had been holding her here was gone now, destroyed by the power that radiated from her in waves I could feel against my skin. This wasn't just what Orion had warned me about. This was worse, so much worse than anything he had described. She looked like a god, but not the kind that blessed or protected. She looked like the kind that brought death and destruction to everything they touched.A body lay crumpled near her feet, so drained and withered that I

  • THE BIKER ALPHA WHO BECAME MY SECOND CHANCE MATE   OR THE HUGE CHAINS LAYING ON BOTH SIDES LIKE IT HAD BEEN MELTED AWAY.

Chapter 109TristanThe jet touched down on a small airstrip that Derek had somehow arranged on an island I'd never heard of, and the moment we stepped off the plane, I could feel that something was wrong. The bond with Athena was there but it felt different, like she was further away than she should be based on what we'd tracked during the flight."She's not here," I said immediately, and my voice came out tight with frustration.Orion nodded beside me, his face grim. "I can feel it too. She's close but not on this island."Derek was already talking into his radio, coordinating with his men who had spread out to secure the landing area. When he finished, he turned to us with a frown."My scouts are reporting activity about two miles across the water," he said, pointing toward the dark ocean. "There's a cave system built into the cliffs on the opposite shore. Natural formation but it looks like it's been modified."I followed his gaze and could just make out the dark outline of rocky
