Edwin’s POV

The apartment smelled like antiseptic and the faint, metallic tang of illness that never quite left, no matter how much we aired the place out. I dropped my bag by the door and went straight to Mom’s room without turning on the hall light. The oxygen concentrator was humming steadily, a mechanical lullaby that had become background noise over the last year. I hated that sound. It meant she was still fighting. It also meant she was still losing, inch by inch.

She was awake when I pus

  • THE BILLIONAIRE HIDDEN SIN    Chapter 64

Edwin’s POVThe money was still in my pocket when I woke up the next morning.Eight hundred dollars, crumpled and warm against my thigh, like a brand I couldn’t wash off. I lay in bed staring at the ceiling cracks, the same ones I used to count when Mom’s coughing kept me awake, and felt the shame settle deeper into my bones. The bar. The woman. The mechanical way I’d moved through the night like the old Edwin had never left.Daniel hadn’t texted. Not once since I’d walked out of his office yesterday after the angry sex in the copy room. No “I love you.” No “I’m sorry.” Just silence. The same cold silence he’d wrapped around himself since the board meeting, the same distance he kept putting between us “for my safety.”I hated how much it hurt.I hated how much I still wanted him anyway.Ruby was already gone for school. The apartment was quiet except for the faint hum of the refrigerator and the distant traffic outside. I dragged myself out of bed, showered until the water ran cold, a

  • THE BILLIONAIRE HIDDEN SIN    Chapter 63

Edwin’s POVThe morning light felt like an accusation.I lay in bed staring at the ceiling, the same cracks I’d counted as a kid now mocking me with their familiarity. My body ached in all the wrong places , the stretch between my legs, the bruises on my hips from the woman’s nails, the faint soreness in my jaw from forcing myself to stay present when my mind wanted to disappear. The eight hundred dollars was still on the nightstand, neatly stacked beside the lamp like evidence of a crime I couldn’t deny.I hadn’t slept. Not really. Every time I closed my eyes I saw the woman’s smile, heard the rustle of cash, felt the hollow numbness that had settled in my chest the moment I walked out of room 12. The money was supposed to fix something. Rent. Groceries. A little breathing room until the insurance check came. Instead it felt like another chain.Ruby’s door creaked open down the hall. I heard her footsteps , soft, hesitant , then the sound of her stopping outside my room. She didn’t k

  • THE BILLIONAIRE HIDDEN SIN    Chapter 62

Edwin’s POVThe room was still dark when I woke up, but the gray light creeping through the curtains told me it was morning. Daniel’s arm was heavy across my waist, his breathing slow and even against the back of my neck. For a few seconds I let myself pretend last night hadn’t happened , the bar, the money, the angry sex that had felt like punishment and forgiveness at the same time. His body was warm, solid, the same body that had held me through Mom’s funeral and the worst of the grief. I pressed back against him, just a little, and his arm tightened instinctively even in sleep. Then the memory crashed back in.The eight hundred dollars still sitting on my nightstand. The way he’d looked at me when he found me on the floor. The way he’d fucked me like he was trying to erase someone else’s touch.I slipped out from under his arm carefully, not wanting to wake him yet. My legs felt unsteady as I padded to the bathroom. The mirror showed exactly what I expected , eyes red-rimmed, lips

  • THE BILLIONAIRE HIDDEN SIN    Chapter 61

Edwin’s POVThe key turned in the lock at 2:17 a.m., and the apartment door opened with a soft click that sounded louder than it should have in the silence. I stepped inside, shoes in hand, trying not to wake Ruby. The hallway light was off, but the faint glow from the streetlamp outside painted everything in washed-out gray. My body felt wrong , heavy, sticky, used. The eight hundred dollars was still in my pocket, crumpled and warm like it carried the woman’s perfume and my own shame.I didn’t turn on any lights. I just stood there in the dark, leaning against the closed door, breathing in the faint lavender ghost of Mom’s detergent that still clung to the air. The money burned against my thigh. I could feel every crease of the bills like they were branding my skin.*One night. Just to cover rent.*The lie I’d told myself in the bar hallway tasted like bile now. I’d gone back. I’d let it happen. I’d taken the cash and walked out feeling nothing at all , until the bus ride home, when

  • THE BILLIONAIRE HIDDEN SIN    Chapter 60

Edwin’s POVThe morning after felt like waking up inside someone else’s skin.I lay in my own bed, staring at the ceiling cracks I’d memorized as a kid, the same ones I used to count when Mom’s coughing kept me awake. The apartment smelled like burnt toast from Ruby’s attempt at breakfast and the faint lavender ghost of Mom’s detergent. My body ached in all the familiar places , the stretch, the soreness, the dull throb between my legs that reminded me exactly what I’d done last night in room 12.Eight hundred dollars sat on the nightstand in a crumpled stack. Blood money. Guilt money. The kind of cash I’d sworn I’d never touch again.I hadn’t even spent it. I’d come home, showered until the water ran cold, and crawled into bed still smelling like the woman’s perfume and my own shame. Ruby had been asleep. I’d left the money on the counter with a note that said *Rent*. She hadn’t mentioned it this morning when she left for school. She’d just hugged me too tight and whispered, “I love

  • THE BILLIONAIRE HIDDEN SIN    Chapter 59

Edwin’s POVThe copy room door had barely clicked shut behind Daniel when the silence hit me like a slap.I stood there, trousers still around my thighs, the copier humming uselessly behind me, pages spitting out one after another like nothing had happened. My legs felt weak. My chest felt raw. The ache between my legs , sharp, deep, still pulsing with the memory of him , was the only thing that felt real. He’d fucked me like he hated me.Then he’d cleaned me up like I was something precious. Then he’d left.No goodbye kiss. No “I love you.” Just the sound of his belt buckling, the quiet click of the lock, and the empty space where his body had been.I pulled my clothes back into place with shaking hands. The fabric felt wrong against my skin , too tight, too rough, like it belonged to someone else. I stared at the scattered pages on the floor. The Meridian deck revisions. Clean numbers. Safe strategy. Everything I was supposed to be focusing on while Daniel fought a war I wasn’t allo
