Ximena's POV
"I can help you for a small price," I turned my head towards the person.Alberto Miles Lucas.I raised an eyebrow, glaring at him. He was studying me from top to bottom, and the most bothersome part was that he was licking his lips. Oh Lord, what have I gotten myself into?"What do you mean?" I inquired, standing up.He reached out his hand and ran it through my hair. He licked his lips and smirked. "How about we put Adeline in her place?" he breathed in my hair. "We can work together, you know?""Get your hand of me!" I swatted his hand away from my hair. "Are you intoxicated, Alberto? Do you realize you are speaking with your cousin's wife?" I challenged, shooting daggers at him.He chuckled. "You and I both know you don't view him as your husband. And it so happens that you two share mutual feelings," he stated."Leave my room!" I groaned, pointing at the door."Playing hard to get? You and I both know you require me. Just say it. When you come to your senses, you know where to find me," with that, he spun around and left the room.I collapsed back onto the stool. What the hell is going on?***I changed into different attire for a stroll. Stepping out of my room, I was met with Mrs. Adeline Miles Lucas. I stopped, clenching my teeth. She walked past me and entered the room. I sighed and followed her."What is it now?" I asked and rolled my eyes."When will our agreement come into fruition?" she asked, a triumphant smirk appearing on her face."Just clarify something for me, Mrs. Miles. Why do you want to take everything from your son?" I questioned. I honestly don't understand."Your responsibility is to carry out the plans, not to ask foolish questions," she replied. She handed me a paper. "Here are instructions on what you must do. You have only thirty days to successfully execute the plan. Understood?"I lifted the paper to meet our gazes and tore it to shreds. "Do your worst, old woman. Aren't you afraid I'll report you to Hudson?" I asked. She chuckled and closed the distance between us. We were now mere inches apart. She glared daggers at me, her ruby eyes swirling with malicious magma."Go ahead, Ximena Arthur, and I'll ensure your entire lineage is wiped out, starting with you," she threatened.I could sense the heat of her fury searing my skin. We stood there, glaring bitterly at each other. In that moment, Hudson walked in and our eyes snapped to him as we quickly retreated from each other's space."What's happening here?" he questioned, halting in his tracks. His gaze flitted from his mother to me."Hello, son," Mrs. Miles greeted warmly, facing him."I was just reminding your wife of her place in this household," she added, her eyes darting towards me.I rolled my eyes and took a seat on the edge of the bed. "Excuse me," she exclaimed and made her exit."What was that about, Ximena?" Hudson inquired, his tone tight with tension. I narrowed my eyes at him before lying back on the bed.***A week later, I got dressed for a photo shoot. A modeling agency had called me earlier today. I had never been more thrilled when they contacted me. Besides, now that I'm a married woman, Aunt Sadie can't control me anymore. Plus, staying cooped up at home with those lunatics will make me go insane."You look lovely, Ximena," I complimented my reflection in the mirror, blowing a kiss at it."And where are you off to?" Hudson questioned, entering the bedroom from the bathroom. It was the weekend, so he didn’t go to work.I turned to face him, furrowing my brow in frustration. "What does my going out have to do with you, Mr. Hudson Miles Lucas?" I retorted, rolling my eyes.In an instant, he was towering over me. We were now mere inches apart. His hazel eyes were consumed by the anger he radiated. I gulped nervously as his piercing gaze burned into my skin."You are my wife, Ximena. I have a right to be informed of your whereabouts, do you understand?" He grumbled.I stepped back, crossed my arms, and stared back at him."You don't seem to get it, Hudson. The mere fact that we are fettered by the ties of a contractual marriage does not grant you superiority. Therefore, I am not obligated to provide any explanation for my actions and movements. Is that clear now?" I asserted, turning to pick up my bag. Before I could react, he seized my hand with a tight grip. He jerked me to face him and I let out a gasp."You are legally bound to me, making you a burden," he grumbled. His heated breath hit my face. "And I have the final say on whether or not you can leave the house. Do you understand?" With that, he shoved me onto the bed, causing me to grunt in pain. He then turned towards the door."Hudson!" I yelled, standing up from the bed.He halted abruptly and turned to face me, clenching his teeth. I rushed to the vanity table, grabbed my bag and phone."If you think I will obey your orders, you are mistaken. Don't try to stop me," I challenged, pushing past him.I made it downstairs and was met with a piercing stare from Mrs. Miles. I clutched my handbag and glared back at her. She took a step closer."And where do you think you are going?" she inquired."None of your business," I retorted, rolling my eyes. She let out an evil chuckle. "You still haven't realized the situation you're in, Ximena. If I were you, I would turn around, return to my room and prepare to resume work on Monday," she sneered."Listen here, woman. Your hearing seems to be lacking and I will say it one last time. I will never participate in your wicked schemes. If you even dare to mention this again, I will have no choice but to report you to Hudson. Don't test me," I warned and walked away.Hudson's POVThe following weeks have been a nightmare for me. Had it not been for my respect and obedience towards my Mother, I would never have consented to marry that maniac. How can a young lady be so fiery and foul-mouthed?"Good morning, Sir," my secretary, Elizabeth, greeted as she accompanied me."Morning, Elizabeth. Any appointments for today?" I inquired as we stepped into the elevator."Yes, Sir. You have a meeting with the F & R representative at 10 am. Additionally, the Fitzgerald Group Of Companies has arranged for a client to visit at 1 pm today," she promptly informed me.We got an arrival sound from the elevator and it opened, revealing top level working space."Okay," I acknowledged as I made my way to my office. Despite the greetings from my staff, I ignored them. "Anything else?" I asked Elizabeth, who continued to follow me."Uh, sir. It's regarding Christabel," she hesitantly spoke and closed the door behind us. I didn't respond until I settled into my desk chair
Ximena's POVMy mind was consumed by thoughts. If only I could escape this life. Why does all the misfortune always come my way? Since my mother's passing, my life has been a never-ending turmoil, as if that wasn't enough, everyone else adds to my burdens. Now, I have to strip a man of his possession just to protect my family. I had no choice after the event that took place between Mrs Miles and I yesterday.***I was in my room, scrolling through my phone, killing time, when I saw Aunt Sadie's name flashing on the screen. She was calling me. When did she start showing any concern for me? I answered the call."Ximena!" Aunt Sadie exclaimed. My heart skipped a beat and I sat up abruptly from my bed."What's wrong, Aunt? Are you alright?" I asked, my voice trembling."Is Mila with you?" she inquired, her tone laced with anxiety."Mila? That's a joke, Aunt. How could Mila be with me? She has plenty of friends to turn to, not me," I replied nonchalantly, relaxing my mind and sinking back
Ximena's POVI smiled to myself, reaching into my bag and retrieving the knife I had taken from the kitchen two days ago. Hudson turned to open the door on his side. "Silence is golden, Hudson Miles Lucas," I declared, brandishing the knife in a menacing manner.“And what the fuck… holy shit! What are you doing with that?” he exclaimed, almost flying out of the car as his back slammed the door.“I’m about to slice you into sellable pieces. Where should I start from?” I asked, inching the knife closer to him.“Stop this madness, Ximena! You are a real fucking bitch. Now put that thing away!” he ordered and I chuckled.“Do you think I am joking, Hudson Miles Lucas? Unlock the damn door now!”“Don’t you know cameras are everywhere?”“Yeah, I know. But it’s such a pity those cameras can’t penetrate these dark glasses you call car windows. It’s either we go into the office in peace or I slice you into pieces and go in myself. The choice is yours,” I declared.“Fine. But you have to behave y
Ximena’s POV“It’s closing time!” I squealed as Hudson started packing his stuff to leave.“Stop yelling, will you?” he grunted.“You are such a boring jerk. You should be happy we have closed already. It has been hell in this office since morning,” I whined, closing my unused laptop and standing up.“I should be the one complaining. You didn’t do shit,” he declared.“That’s not going to affect how I feel right now, poor you,” I pouted and moved from my desk to his.“What now?”“Hey, don’t be like that. At least, I didn’t murder any of your staff. You should be happy about it,” I said with a satisfactory grin.“Here, have this,” he stretched his briefcase to me.“Why?” I asked, staring down at the briefcase.“You are my assistant, you should help me carry it,” he declared.“Really? Sure, I would help you…” I accepted and dipped my hand into my bag, taking out my knife again. “…Provided
Ximena’s POVAnother morning for another tiresome day. I dressed up to go to work. Hudson finished up and picked up his suitcase.“Wait up for me, will you?” I said, hurrying up with my shoes.“Where are you going?” he asked, facing me.“What do you mean by that? Have you forgotten I am your new PA?” I asked, getting done with my shoes.“I thought I spoke with Mother about it already. You can’t come with me, Ximena.”“I wasn’t asking for your permission, Hudson Miles Lucas,” I declared and stood up. “Also, I won’t have you starve me to death today, so you are going to wait for me to have breakfast.”“No… I will do no such thing,” he declared and hurried out. If your mother allows you out of the house without me then it would be spiffing. I took a final glance at myself in the mirror and made to go out. The door creaked open before my hand would even land on the handle and Alberto sneaked in, closing the door be
Ximena’s POV“Hello, Aunty?” I received a call from Aunt Sadie early in the morning as I was getting ready to go to work. “How are you doing? How is Mila?” I asked.“We are not fine, Ximena,” she whined. My heart struck my throat and I had to swallow the lump to compose myself. “W-what happened?” I asked with a shaky voice.“What didn’t happen, Ximena? We are starving to death and you are married to a rich man. Have you forgotten I arranged that marriage for you? We need money. Send us money. Stop enjoying it alone,” Aunt Sadie grouched. I don’t even get it. I thought Mila was a graduate. Can’t she at least get a job and support her mother? What do I have? No completed education, no loving family, nothing. Comparing a university graduate to a dropout, who is in the best position to support a family?“What are you talking about, Aunt Sadie? Where do you expect me to get money from? I am married to a so-called rich man doesn’t mea
Hudson’s POVXimena hadn’t returned to the room since she angrily left earlier. Where the hell did she go to? And why the fuck do I care about that? Yet, I couldn’t sleep. I turned over on the bed. I sat up and sighed. That lady is just so dramatic and overbearing. Fuck! I headed out of the room. Descending downstairs, I saw Kate, one of the servants.“Good evening, Sir,” she quickly greeted and halted in her tracks, avoiding my eyes as best as she could.“Yeah, Kate. Have you seen Ximena?” I asked. Her eyes flitted from one corner of the living room to the other. “What are you searching for? I’m asking after my wife,” I groaned. “Uh, yeah, I… I saw her earlier. She was… going into Little Lady’s room,” she stuttered, fidgeting.“And who the fuck is Little Lady?” I snapped.“Um, Nevaeh. She went to Miss Nevaeh’s room,” she said. I turned and marched back upstairs.I knocked on Nevaeh’s room. No respon
Ximena’s POVIt has been over two weeks since I started working as Hudson’s PA. I still don’t know where to begin ruining him. Whenever I tried to use something against him, my conscience beat me to it. And he hasn’t even aggravated me for a while now. Instead of fueling my anger and letting me do what I have to do to protect my family, he is making things more difficult for me.“Here you go,” Hudson had stepped out earlier only to return to my table with a cup of coffee.“Why?” I asked.“You have become my obedient and loyal PA, I should take care of you,” he said and I chuckled. “You have been working nicely over the week. Care for lunch?” he asked, smiling at me.“Hudson, what’s going on in your head now?” I asked, wiggling my eyebrows in suspicion.“I don’t know what you are talking about, Ximena,” he walked to his desk. “You have just ten minutes to be done, except you want me to change my mind about the lunch.”“Yo
