Leonard's death left his family devastated. Mia, Vanessa's mother was the most affected by Leonard's death. She had given up her job as a teacher to tend to him. She had read him newspapers, and books when his eyesight failed. She, Vanessa and Greg had taken turns holding his hands when he hallucinated.
