The next morning felt different.

Amara noticed it the moment she stepped out of her room.

The house was quiet as usual, but something about the atmosphere felt tense—like the calm before a storm.

She walked down the staircase slowly, her mind still replaying everything she and Alexander had discovered the night before.

Money laundering.

Hidden accounts.

Victor’s threats.

And the fact that Alexander’s father had actually been trying to stop it.

It changed everything.

Amara reached the kitchen and poured herself a cup of coffee, but her thoughts were far away.

She was staring into the mug when she suddenly heard a voice behind her.

“You look like you didn’t sleep.”

She turned.

Alexander stood at the entrance of the kitchen.

He looked composed as always, dressed in a dark suit, his hair slightly messy like he had run his fingers through it too many times.

But his eyes told a different story.

He hadn’t slept either.

“Good morning,” Amara said.

“Is it?”

She shrugged slightly.

“I guess that depends on how you define ‘good’.”

Alexander walked into the kitchen and poured himself coffee.

“Fair point.”

For a moment, they stood there quietly.

The silence between them was no longer awkward.

It was familiar.

Comfortable.

And strangely intense.

Amara finally spoke.

“So… what’s the plan?”

Alexander leaned against the counter.

“Victor thinks he scared me yesterday.”

“And he didn’t?”

Alexander smirked slightly.

“He made a mistake.”

“What mistake?”

Alexander took a sip of his coffee before answering.

“He showed his hand too early.”

Amara frowned.

“You mean the flash drive?”

“Yes.”

“He probably thought it would destroy you.”

Alexander shook his head.

“But instead it exposed him.”

Amara slowly nodded.

“That means you can fight back.”

“Yes.”

“But…”

Alexander looked at her.

“But?”

Amara hesitated.

“Victor doesn’t seem like the type of man who gives up easily.”

Alexander’s eyes darkened slightly.

“He won’t.”

Before Amara could respond, Alexander’s phone suddenly rang.

The sharp sound cut through the room.

He glanced at the screen.

Then his expression changed instantly.

“What is it?” Amara asked.

Alexander answered the call.

“Yes?”

The voice on the other end spoke quickly.

Alexander’s jaw tightened.

“When?”

Another pause.

“I’ll be there immediately.”

He ended the call.

Amara felt her stomach drop.

“That didn’t sound good.”

Alexander grabbed his jacket.

“It isn’t.”

“What happened?”

Alexander looked at her.

“Victor just made his first move.”

Her heart skipped.

“What did he do?”

Alexander’s voice was calm.

Too calm.

“One of our warehouses was just raided.”

Amara blinked.

“Raided?”

“By financial investigators.”

“But… why?”

Alexander’s eyes narrowed.

“They received an anonymous tip.”

Amara’s stomach twisted.

“Victor.”

“Yes.”

She ran a hand through her hair.

“He’s trying to make it look like your company is the one laundering money.”

“Exactly.”

“That’s insane.”

Alexander’s voice was quiet.

“Not insane. Strategic.”

Amara stared at him.

“So what happens now?”

Alexander walked toward the door.

“Now I go clean up his mess.”

Amara quickly followed him.

“You’re going to the warehouse?”

“Yes.”

She grabbed her bag.

“I’m coming with you.”

Alexander stopped.

He turned and looked at her.

“No.”

Amara frowned.

“Why not?”

“Because this could get complicated.”

“I can handle complicated.”

Alexander stepped closer.

His voice lowered.

“Amara.”

“Yes?”

“You don’t understand the kind of people Victor deals with.”

Amara crossed her arms.

“And you don’t understand that I’m already involved.”

Alexander studied her face.

“You should stay here.”

She shook her head.

“No.”

“Amara—”

“You brought me into this world the moment you married me.”

Alexander froze.

For a second, neither of them spoke.

Then slowly, Alexander sighed.

“You’re stubborn.”

Amara smiled slightly.

“I’ve been told that.”

He shook his head.

“Fine.”

Her smile widened.

“But you stay close to me.”

“I wasn’t planning to wander off.”

Alexander opened the door.

“Good.”

They stepped outside.

The morning air felt cool and sharp.

Alexander’s car was already waiting.

As they drove through the city, Amara noticed how quiet Alexander had become.

His mind was clearly working through a hundred strategies at once.

“You’re thinking hard,” she said.

“Yes.”

“About Victor?”

“About how to destroy him.”

Amara raised an eyebrow.

“That’s intense.”

Alexander glanced at her briefly.

“He started this war.”

The car finally stopped in front of a large industrial building.

Police vehicles were already outside.

Amara’s heart began to beat faster.

“This looks serious.”

Alexander stepped out of the car.

“Stay close.”

They walked toward the warehouse entrance.

Several investigators were already inside, examining boxes and documents.

One of them approached Alexander immediately.

“Mr. Vale.”

Alexander’s expression remained calm.

“Yes?”

“We received information about suspicious financial activity connected to this warehouse.”

Alexander nodded slightly.

“And what have you found?”

The investigator hesitated.

“Nothing yet.”

Alexander crossed his arms.

“That’s because there’s nothing to find.”

Amara watched the conversation carefully.

The investigator looked uncomfortable.

“We still have to check everything.”

“Of course.”

As the investigator walked away, Amara whispered to Alexander.

“So Victor set you up… but he didn’t plant evidence?”

“Not yet.”

She frowned.

“Then why call investigators?”

Alexander’s eyes scanned the warehouse slowly.

“Because this is only step one.”

Amara felt a chill run down her spine.

“What’s step two?”

Before Alexander could answer—

Another voice echoed through the warehouse.

“Well, well… this is quite the scene.”

Amara froze.

She recognized that voice instantly.

Victor.

He walked in slowly, his expensive suit perfectly tailored, his expression full of quiet amusement.

“Mr. Vale,” he said smoothly.

Alexander’s posture became rigid.

“Victor.”

Victor glanced around the warehouse.

“Such a shame.”

“What is?”

Victor smiled.

“Watching an empire fall.”

Alexander’s voice remained steady.

“You’re enjoying this too much.”

Victor leaned closer.

“Oh Alexander… this is only the beginning.”

Amara felt Alexander’s hand lightly touch her arm.

A silent warning.

Victor’s eyes shifted toward her.

“Ah… and Mrs. Vale.”

His smile widened slightly.

“You look nervous.”

Amara lifted her chin.

“I’m not.”

Victor chuckled.

“Good.”

He leaned closer to Alexander again.

“Because things are about to get much worse.”

Then he turned and walked away.

Leaving a thick cloud of tension behind him.

Amara exhaled slowly.

“I officially hate that man.”

Alexander’s voice was quiet.

“You should.”

“Why?”

Because Victor had just declared war.

And this time…

There would be no turning back.

Victor’s laughter still echoed in Amara’s ears long after he left the warehouse. She stood beside Alexander, watching investigators move around the building, opening boxes and scanning documents. The entire scene felt surreal.Just yesterday, she had been living a quiet life. Now she was standing inside a warehouse that was being investigated for financial crimes. And somehow…She had become part of a war between two powerful men.Amara glanced at Alexander. His expression was calm.Too calm.“Are you okay?” she asked quietly.Alexander didn’t answer immediately. His eyes were focused on the investigators moving through the building.“I expected something like this,” he finally said.“You expected your warehouse to be raided?”“Yes.”Amara frowned.“You sound like this doesn’t bother you.”Alexander looked at her then.“Oh, it bothers me.”“Then why do you look so relaxed?”Alexander leaned slightly closer to her.“Because Victor made a mistake.”Amara tilted her head.“You keep sayin

For several seconds after Victor left, the office remained completely silent. The only sound in the room was the low hum of Alexander’s laptop and the distant echo of Victor’s footsteps fading down the hallway.Amara stood near the door, her heart still beating faster than normal. That man had walked in like he owned the entire building.Like he owned Alexander. And the strange part was that Alexander hadn’t argued. He hadn’t shouted. He hadn’t even tried to stop him.Instead, he had simply stood there, staring at the flash drive Victor had left behind. The small silver device now sat in the center of Alexander’s desk.Amara slowly walked closer.“You’re just going to stare at it forever?” she asked.Alexander didn’t answer. His expression remained hard and unreadable. She folded her arms and leaned against the edge of the desk.“That man walks into your office, threatens your entire company, claims your father stole from him, and your response is… silence?”Alexander finally looked u
