The morning sunlight spilled through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the mansion, painting golden streaks across the marble floor. Amara sat at the breakfast table, scrolling through her phone, trying not to think about Alexander.

But of course… thinking about him was impossible.

He appeared in the kitchen quietly, just like every morning, impeccably dressed in a crisp shirt and tailored pants. The way he moved—confident, precise—made her heart skip a beat, even though they hadn’t even touched yet.

“Good morning,” he said, his voice low and calm.

“Morning,” she replied, trying to sound casual. Her voice sounded anything but.

Alexander poured himself coffee and leaned against the counter, watching her with an intensity that was impossible to ignore. “You’re quiet today,” he observed, his tone teasing just enough to make her pulse quicken.

Amara rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide her grin. “I’m… thinking.”

“About what?” he asked, stepping closer. The scent of his cologne filled the space, warm and subtle.

She felt her cheeks heat. “You wouldn’t understand.”

He smiled faintly, a rare curve of his lips that made her stomach flutter. “Try me.”

Amara’s heart raced. She knew that if she let herself, she could spill everything—her confusion, her curiosity, her growing… feelings. And perhaps, she should.

“I think…” she began, her voice trembling slightly, “I might… like you.”

The words hung in the air like a spark waiting to ignite.

Alexander froze for just a moment, then his dark eyes softened. “You’re brave,” he said quietly, almost reverently. “Because I feel the same way.”

Amara’s heart jumped. “You… feel the same?”

He stepped closer, just enough that the warmth from his body brushed against hers. “Yes. But we need to be careful. This arrangement… it’s complicated. And I can’t risk hurting you.”

Her pulse thumped loudly in her ears. “I’m already… hurt?” she whispered, teasing lightly, though a part of her trembled.

“No,” he said, his voice deep and steady. “I mean… we haven’t crossed the line yet. And that line… matters.”

Amara’s mind swirled. Every moment with him was electrifying—his proximity, the softness beneath his usual control, the way he looked at her as if she were the only person in the room.

“I don’t want to cross it,” she admitted, her voice barely audible. “But… I don’t want to step back either.”

Alexander’s lips curved into a small, rare smile. “Then don’t,” he whispered. “Just stay close. That’s all I ask.”

Over the next few days, their interactions changed subtly but noticeably:

Lingering glances across the breakfast table, silent but full of meaning.

Accidental touches while passing in the hallway, each sending shivers through Amara’s body.

Shared spaces in the mansion growing smaller, charged with unspoken tension.

One evening, they found themselves in the library, the rain tapping lightly against the windows. Amara had been reading, trying to focus, but she kept stealing glances at him.

“You’re distracting,” Alexander said suddenly, his voice teasing, though not cruel.

Amara’s cheeks warmed. “Me? Distracting?”

“Yes,” he replied, stepping closer. “I can’t seem to concentrate when you’re around.”

She laughed softly, unable to hide the blush rising in her cheeks. “Maybe you just need better self-control.”

He smirked faintly. “Or maybe I just don’t want it.”

The air between them felt alive, electric, charged with emotion neither of them dared to name yet.

That night, Amara lay in her room, staring at the ceiling, heart racing. The mansion felt empty, but she could still feel him everywhere—the way he had leaned closer, the faint scent of his cologne lingering in the air, the weight of his gaze that refused to leave her mind.

She realized something terrifying… and wonderful. She liked him. Truly liked him.

And worse… she suspected he felt the same.

You two were literally about to melt into each other when I walked in.”Amara groaned.“I’m leaving.”She turned quickly and walked toward the stairs before Elena could say anything else. But before she reached the first step—Alexander called her name.“Amara.”She stopped.Slowly, she turned around.Alexander was watching her.Not with his usual cold expression. But with something deeper.Something that made her chest tighten.“We need to talk,” he said.Elena immediately clapped her hands.

By the time evening arrived, the mansion felt unusually tense.Amara stood in front of the mirror in her room, staring at her reflection. She had changed outfits three times already.“This is ridiculous,” she muttered under her breath. Why was she even nervous? It was just dinner.Dinner with Alexander…And his ex.Amara sighed and adjusted the soft black dress she finally decided to wear. It was simple but elegant, hugging her figure just enough to make her feel confident.“You’re overthinking this,” she told herself. But deep down she knew the truth. She wanted to look good tonight. Not for Sophia. But for Alexander. That realization alone made her cheeks warm slightly. Before she could change her mind again, she grabbed her phone and headed downstairs. The dining room was already prepared when she arrived.Soft lights illuminated the long table, and the atmosphere felt strangely formal.Sophia was already seated, casually sipping a glass of wine. Her eyes immediately lifted when sh
