My hands clenched tightly around my phone as I stared at the message and the pinned location beneath it.

I typed.

"Do as you please. I'm not interested," I sent it and pushed my phone to the other end of the bed like I didn't care, but deep down, it hurt. My chest burned with one question: Did it really mean that the night I and Ethan spent together meant?

It didn't take up to a minute before my phone buzzed again.

"If you don't come, I'm going to bring the show to you."

I didn't reply. Then, the next second, a photo popped up on my screen.

It was a photo of Emma on Ethan's lap.

My jaw tightened.

I typed the few words in my head

"You're just a plaything he plays with outside. When he's done, he comes back to meet his wife,"I didn't bother to recheck before sending it to her.

I checked, but no reply followed.

Thirty minutes later, a maid knocked at my door.

"Sir Ethan wants you downstairs," she announced.

My heart froze for a second.

Ethan at home by this time of the day?

And he wanted me?

A smile crossed my lips. I rose and ran towards the stairs without wearing my foot wears.

I cared less.

At the moment, all I wanted was to see Ethan standing by the stairs waiting for me and probably said 'i miss you'

But the moment I got downstairs...

My smile vanished.

Ethan stood right in front of me with someone in his arms.

I walked closer and discovered that the person was none other than Emma.

Her head rested on his shoulder, and beside him was clothes box.

My stomach dropped.

"Wh... what is happening here?" I asked.

Ethan's gaze shifted to me.

"Hi, sister," Emma waved with a smile.

I ignored her and faced Ethan.

"What's she doing in your arms?" I blurted before I could stop myself.

He shrugged like it was no big deal.

"She sprained her ankle," he replied simply and walked past me like he owned me no explanation.

My eyes followed them until he carefully dropped her onto the couch.

Then she held onto his tie.

"Ethan, you're so sweet to me... I wish you were mine," she said with a smile.

Ethan smiled and patted her hair.

My blood boiled as I watched them.

Then she leaned in and gave him a peck on his left cheek.

there i lost the little cool in me.

"Stay away from him!" I marched to her and yanked her by the hair.

Her scream rang through the whole room.

"What the hell are you doing?" Ethan yelled and pushed me away from her.

I landed hard on the floor, my head hitting the sharp edge of the glass table in the middle of the living room.

My head spun.

My blood flowed down my head and stained the floor.

Ethan's eyes flickered.

His feet stopped moving.

For a brief second, he looked torn upon seeing my blood on the floor.

He took a step toward me.

"Ethan, it hurts," Emma whispered, clutching his arm.

His jaw tightened.

Without another glance at me, he turned back to Emma.

"Ethan," I whispered, stretching out my trembling hand to him as my vision blurred.

He turned and stared at me. For a second, I thought he was going to come to me.

But then again, he went to Emma.

He carefully carried her into his arms and started walking toward the stairs without sparing me a glance.

Emma stuck out her tongue at me smugly as Ethan walked past me, as if telling me that I had lost again.

My hand slowly fell as I stared at his retreating figure.

what was I expecting?

a bitter smile crossed my lips.

Tears rolled down my cheeks as my eyes started closing.

Then slowly, darkness took me completely.

---

When I opened my eyes again, the first thing that welcomed me was the dust oozing into my nostrils.

I was no longer on the floor but on a bed in an unfamiliar room.

I sat up, trying to step down from the bed.

My head pounded violently.

The room suddenly spun around me.

I pressed a hand against the bed for support until my vision steadied.

Every movement sent pain shooting through my skull.

My hand slowly went to my head. It was wrapped in a bandage.

I slowly stepped out of the bed. My eyes scanned the room. It looked so messy and unkempt.

How did I end up here?

what happened after I collapsed?

I panicked and walked out, only to discover that I was still in the mansion, but in the maid's quarters.

It was almost dark outside.

I slowly dragged my legs toward the main mansion.

As I got in, I started heading straight to my room. On getting closer, I heard low voices coming from inside.

"Ethan, what about my sister? Won't she be mad that I took over her room?" I heard Emma's voice.

Then followed by Ethan's reply.

"Not at all... This room was supposed to be yours in the first place until she stole it..do don't be bothered by her, I already asked the maid to fix her a room"

My heart sank.

so, that dusty room was actually the room that was fixed for me?

I slowly opened the door and found Emma lying on my bed with Ethan sitting beside her.

The moment she saw me standing by the door. She grabbed hold of Ethan's hand and pulled him into a hug.

"Ethan...there's this newly open restaurants I would like us to try tomorrow, will you.."

Ethan didn't even let her land her statement before agreeing to her demands.

Tears dropped from my eyes.

I quickly wiped them away.

"Crying wasn't going to change anything" I whispered to myself.

If Ethan wanted to treat me like I didn't exist...

Then it's time I reminded him that I am still his wife.

I turned swiftly and walked out before Ethan could notice my presence.

I walked downstairs, then my phone buzzed.

It was a message from Emma.

"I told you that I would bring the show to you since you decided not to come watch it..."

I sighed and tucked my phone into my pocket.

A dark smile crept its way onto my lips as an idea struck my mind.

"Since you want to play this game... bring it on."

I walked out of the mansion and headed to the nearest convenience store.

I walked in. A few minutes later, I came out carrying a small paper bag.

I looked at its contents before folding the top shut.

"Perfect," I whispered and started heading back to the mansion.

By the time I entered the mansion, it was silent.

I headed upstairs, not to my room but to Ethan's room.

I opened the door carefully, sneaked in, and locked the door behind me.

I tiptoed towards the bed. He was already asleep.

I climbed onto the bed.

He slept deeply, exhaustion written all over his face.

Not even the mattress dipping beneath my weight stirred him.

I smiled and wrapped my hands round him.

I lay next to Ethan, who was still asleep, with my head resting on his broad chest.

I slid my fingers across his bare chest.

He flinched a little, but his eyes remained closed.

Then I traced my finger up to his eyes, down to his well-defined nose, then lowered it to his lips. I caressed them softly.

He squirmed and slowly opened his eyes.

His eyes grew into a deep frown when he found my hand on his lips.

He shifted away from me.

"What... what are you doing in my room?" he asked confusedly and furiously.

I smiled.

"Where do you expect me to sleep, if not your room?

"I mean, you already gave away my room..." I paused and rolled my fingertip around his chest.

"Get the hell away from me," he growled.

"Why?" I asked.

His jaw hardened.

I smiled even wider.

"We are married, remember?" I pecked his lips.

His eyes glowed red.

"Are you mad?" he yelled and made to push me off, but something held his hands.

He slowly raised his head and discovered that his hands were handcuffed to the bedstand.

He frowned.

"What the fuck did you do?!"

ELENA'S POVThe atmosphere stiffened around me."No, I'm seeing this wrong... It can't be him!" I muttered, trying to convince myself that it wasn't him. But the moment he walked toward me, my breath froze.Well-defined cheekbones, broad chest, dark curly hair...It's him!I took a step back. My pulse hammered in my throat as questions crashed into each other."Ma'am, are you all right?" the hostess asked after noticing my hesitation and restlessness.I turned, my eyes burning. My mistake was coming here alone. I should have allowed Cleo to tag along. At least she knew what to do at times like this... unlike this stupid question.I slowly looked away from her and returned my gaze to the center of attention."Welcome, Mrs. Adams E. We formally welcome you to LA," his voice boomed as he gave a slight bow.My heart skipped a beat.My legs shook for no reason. I staggered backward, and before I could blink, my foot slipped.I found myself falling down the stairs toward the ground."Mrs. A

ETHAN'S POVThe morning sun rays from the glass hit my eyes, causing me to jolt awake. My eyes opened slightly. No matter how hard I tried, they didn't open fully. I slowly reached out for my phone and used it as my mirror. My breath froze when I saw how swollen my eyes were... but I wouldn't blame them. I slept with tears in my eyes and liquor on my hands.I pushed my phone out and slowly gazed at the floor. My head spun the moment I saw the countless numbers of liquor bottles on the floor. Never in my lifetime had I drunk this much."One, two, three, four, five, fifteen..." I lost count and instantly gave up. I slowly reached for the newly opened one. I didn't bother reaching for a glass before pouring its contents into my mouth. My jaw tightened at the slap it came with... Is it just the wine's slap or the sting that's piercing my heart?Elena is gone. Why's she still after me? Maybe it's payback, considering the fact that I didn't treat her with kindness while she was here... but

"And the shares?" I spun around, my hands mid-air with my glass slightly raised."They remain yours," Cleo replied with a proud smile.Mrs. Adams stared, with a hint of confusion and something like admiration in her eyes.I needed no one to tell me that her head would probably be filled with questions already.Just as expected, she voiced it out."What's happening?" she asked with genuine confusion and curiosity."Well, this is what I meant by killing two birds with one stone." I giggled, but her eyes still held confusion.I released a deep sigh, that one you draw when someone refuses to get your point. Slowly, her wrinkled eyes grew bigger and bigger, as if she was recollecting data and reconnecting them together."You're a badass! You paid her a billion for the shares in her possession, and she was fined a billion dollars for violating the marriage law. The money was paid to your account, and in the end, you now own the shares and the money!?" She rapped through her breath.I nodded

EMMA'S POVMy hands shook against my mouth. My legs gave way the moment I heard those words."Emma Armstrong, you are hereby ordered to pay a billion dollars in compensation for the damages caused by your actions. Failure to do so may result in a prison sentence."The next second, everything went blank. I found myself falling into darkness, and the last words I heard were the exclamation, "Someone has fainted!"By the time I opened my eyelids again, I was no longer in the midst of the crowd. Instead, I was seated inside a car.I tilted my head sideways and looked up, only to find Mom staring intensely outside the window. On the other side was Dad, looking somehow exhausted. My gaze slowly went down to my dress. I was still in my wedding dress, with my flowers still intact in my hands. Was it a dream?"Mom..." My voice came out low, so low that I could barely hear myself."I had a crazy dream that my wedding with Ethan got interrupted by Avon, the marriage law prosecutor... He said I w

Emma's composure shattered like glass against a hard floor the moment she heard the question."Wh... wh... what do you mean?" she quivered, her once perfect voice now lowered like a muffled baby's voice."You said she's dead, right?" Avon questioned firmly. She gave a curt nod like someone trying to deny an allegation after being caught red-handed."She died while trying to escape with Ethan's money. Everyone knows," she let out a dry and nervous laugh."Lies!" One of the reporters stepped forward with his mic stretched toward Emma's mouth. "We know nothing about it. She was only declared dead without us seeing her corpse.""Yes," another stepped forward."How did you know she died?"Another emerged."How did you know she wanted to escape with Mr. Ethan's money?"In less than a blink of an eye, reporters cornered her, throwing questions at her.Tiny beads of sweat formed on her forehead as she stared from one face to another. When Cleo suggested I pay reporters to instigate the plan,

A sharp gasp erupted from the hall.Heads snapped. Eyes widened as they stared in the direction where the voice came from."Pam, pam, ram." My voice blew the entering trumpet because it really needed to."This wedding cannot take place," the voice stated again, but this time it came with the face that held it.Cameras turned.Eyes wrinkled into frowns the moment they faced the person behind the voice as he stepped forward into the hall fully.Murmurs began."Isn't that Prosecutor Avon, the highest law...?""What is he doing here?""Could it be that this marriage is against the law?"The camera left Avon and landed on Emma's face. Her face was all flushed out with something like fear and confusion.Without anyone telling me what's on her mind, I already knew she must be asking, "What's happening?"A smug smile appeared at the corner of my lips.Five years. It took me five good years to come up with this plan.Let's see how it goes.Avon walked slowly to the almost newlyweds, each step
