Troy's POV

It felt like I'd gone too far but on the other hand, I felt relieved. Seeing her leave last night left me tossing and turning in bed.

Every thought I had was interrupted by her face in my head, her smile. Her body in my oversized shirt kept replaying in my head and I felt like some crazy jerk.

I had no other choice since I didn't even understand I felt, it could be pity. I must pity her so much that I hated her going back to that jerk she calls husband, how much I wanted to see her face.

Maybe I only appointed her as my second assistant because I don't want to owe her anything, what I did wasn't anything personal, I just pity her.

I was almost convincing myself until I heard a gentle knock on the door.

"Come in." I adjusted my tie and Celeste stepped in.

Pity? When I saw her, It felt like I'd gone deaf, blind and the only thing I could see was her and the only sound was my heart racing when her eyes locked on mine.

"Mr Anderson." She stepped forward and woke me up from my delusions.

"Oh yes, how may I help you?" I pretended to know nothing about the promotion but her face seemed to not be happy about it.

"The promotion, I'm here to reject it." She dropped the file gently and I was shocked, it was supposed to make her happy.

"Why? It's a higher Salary and you get to work on the highest floor, why would you reject a promotion?" I found myself getting mad and she looked at me, a little bit of shock written all over her face and I could understand too since I was confused myself why I reacted that way.

"I... I think it's unfair that you make such decisions at a convenience while there are other competent employees praying for this opportunity and besides I know that you did this because you pity me but I'm..."

"That's not true!" I cut in and she looked at me, confused.

"I didn't do it because I pity you." I knew it didn't make sense, she arched her eyebrows and for some reasons, I found everything she did cute. It could've been a malfunction in my brain but ever since I met this strange woman, I've never been the same.

"If it's not pity, then what is it?" She asked and I was short of words.

"Well..." I realized that even I didn't know why, I just knew i wanted to see her everyday but if I said that, what would she think?

"I guess it's pity then. You can't reject a promotion, you should resume work effectively or you lose your job." I found myself saying words that would cut deep but it was the only way to keep her at arms length, I wasn't even sure what I felt but I felt bad for what I said.

She left and I exhaled.

"What did you do Troy!!!" I bit my lips as I tapped my desk aggressively.

Celeste's POV

I had no idea Troy Anderson was such a jerk, I must've thought he was a good person. He must want to make my life miserable by keeping me next to him, what monster would do that!

I packed my stuffs angrily and everyone stared at me, I knew what was running through their head, even I couldn't deny the fact that I'd feel the same way.

"Your desk is next to mine and you can contact the CEO from your desk phone, don't go into his office unless you're actually needed and he asks you to. You should also consult him before leaving and regardless of who it is, do not let them in until you get a confirmation from the CEO, if they persist, call security on such people." The head secretary explained to me as I finally settled at my desk.

Being a CEO's assistant had it's good side, less work. Just handling schedules.

I looked through his schedule and the next one was an overnight trip to a resort for a meeting.

CEO's get all the fun, they travel out of the country just for meetings.

I was finally getting some closed eyes when the phone rang. I immediately picked up.

"Come to my office now." He ordered and I rushed to his office.

"You called me over sir." I didn't look at him, I realized the more I stared at him, the more I got the strange feeling, almost like his eyes made me shy, it felt ridiculous.

"What's my next schedule?" He asked, I knew he was staring Intensely at me.

"You have an overnight trip for a morning meeting in Australia. The location is a resort and everything has been prepared." I explained and everywhere was quiet.

"Why do I get the feeling that you don't want to look at me?"

"That's not true, I like looking at my feet." I lied, it was so obvious but I didn't care. As long as I didn't have to see him again.

"Okay but you should leave work early so you can get ready for the trip."

"What!" The words came out before I could stop myself, what trip? I couldn't help but look at him.

"Now you're looking at me."

"I think you're mistaken, I thought head secretaries are responsible for that." He didn't seem concerned at all.

"Who made such rules? I want you to go on a business trip with me as boss and employee, do you have a problem with that?" He smirked and I clenched my fist, Troy Anderson wasn't a saint, he was just better at executing his evil plans.

"Of course not, I'll get everything ready for the trip."

I headed home after work and Alan pulled over in front of me.

"Let's go home together." When he said this, I scoffed. It was the first time he's ever offered to take me home, I was more used to begging him for a ride home

"No thanks, I already booked a ride." I rejected politely but he still budged me.

"Do you want people to think something is wrong with our marriage? It's weird for you to go home alone..."

"Weird? I bet they know that you've never actually offered me a ride home since I married you, I always had to beg and even if you gave me a ride home, you'd lecture me on how I didn't deserve it. I don't think I deserve this either so leave now."

The taxi arrived and I left him standing.

I dragged my luggage down the stairs and he stood in the living room staring at me.

"I'm going on a business trip with the CEO and two executives, we should be back by tomorrow." I dropped the proof on the table and attempted to leave but he stopped me.

"What are you doing? Trip? Why am I just hearing about that? When did you start going on business trips with executives? Are you making creative ways to bvtch around?" He was raising his voice again and I hated it.

"I was promoted to secretary today and I only found out myself today so quit being such a loser and get out of my way." I walked past him and when I got to the door, it was locked.

I was still trying to push it open when I heard the clinking of keys behind me, Alan, he got them.

"You're not leaving this house tonight, I'll make sure of it so call your crazy boss and tell him you won't be coming."

As soon as he said this, I knew all hell would break lose. Once again, Alan had pushed a button.
