BLOOD ON THE PAVEMENT.

ROMAN'S POV

My lips were a breath away from hers.

Noelle’s eyes were half-closed, her breath trembling against my mouth. After weeks of restraint, after watching her run from me again and again, she was finally leaning in. Finally giving me what I’d been starving for.

Then that fucking knock shattered everything.

I pulled back sharply, every muscle in my body going rigid. Noelle’s eyes flew open in panic. I turned my head slowly toward the window.

Derek.

Of course it was

HOPES AND BELIEVENOELLE'S POVI couldn’t stop crying. The sobs came in waves, raw and ugly, tearing from my chest like they were trying to rip me apart. I was curled up on the couch in my apartment, face buried in a pillow, body shaking so hard I could barely breathe. Milo was pressed against my chest, purring loudly as if trying to comfort me, his small warm body the only steady thing in my world right now.Bria sat on the floor beside the couch, rubbing slow circles on my back.“Shh, baby,” she whispered, voice soft but firm. “Breathe. Just breathe. I’m right here.”She had shown up twenty minutes after I called her, bursting through the door with a tub of cookie dough ice cream and two spoons and her cat. No questions at first. She had simply pulled me into a hug, let me cry on her shoulder, and then guided me to the couch. Now the ice cream sat melting on the coffee table, forgotten. I couldn’t eat. I could barely think. The photos kept flashing in my mind.Roman shirtless. Lia

SHATTERED ROMAN'S POVThe pounding in my head was the first thing I noticed. Then the warmth beside me.I groaned, my mouth dry, eyes gritty, as I slowly regained consciousness. The room was dark, the city lights outside casting faint shadows across the ceiling. My body felt heavy, weighed down by too much whiskey and too little sleep.Something soft was pressed against my side.I turned my head slowly.Liana.She was curled up against me, her head resting on my bare chest, one leg thrown over mine. She was wearing nothing but a pair of black lace panties. Her skin was warm against mine, her breathing steady and content. My stomach dropped.I jerked upright so fast the room spun. Liana stirred, making a soft, sleepy sound as she reached for me again.“Roman…” she murmured, voice husky. “You’re awake.”I scrambled back, nearly falling off the bed, my heart hammering violently.“What the fuck, Liana?” My voice was hoarse, cracking with panic. “How did you get in here? What are you doi

SHATTERED RELIEFROMAN'S POVI was drunk. The whiskey burned like liquid fire down my throat, but it still wasn’t enough.I sat on the floor of my penthouse, back against the cold glass of the floor-to-ceiling window, the nearly empty bottle of Macallan clutched loosely in my hand. The city lights below blurred into meaningless streaks of gold and white. Everything felt distant, like I was watching my own life through fogged glass.Noelle had left with Derek. The image refused to leave my mind. Her climbing into his car, looking so broken and exhausted after everything that had happened. After I had pushed her away for days. After Liana had thrown herself at me in the lobby like we were still together.I took another long swig, the alcohol doing little to dull the sharp pain in my chest.I had thought the DNA results would fix everything. I had imagined running to her, pulling her into my arms, telling her we were free. Instead, I had received the news and then learned from security t

RELIEFROMAN'S POVThe email arrived at exactly eleven fourty-seven that morning.I was alone in my office, staring at the same contract for the tenth time when my phone pinged with the notification from the private lab.Subject: DNA Test Results – ConfidentialMy heart stopped. For a long moment, I just stared at the screen, afraid to open it. My hands were shaking. The entire world narrowed down to this single email.I finally clicked it.The results were summarized at the top in clear, clinical language. Conclusion: No biological relation.Roman Ashford and James Carter share 0% DNARoman Ashford and Noelle Carter share 0% DNA I read it three times. Then I read it again. We weren’t related.Noelle was not my half-sister.The relief hit me so hard I had to grip the edge of my desk to stay upright. A broken sound escaped my throat, half laugh, half sob.All the fear. All the guilt. All the nights I had tortured myself imagining the worst…It was over.We were free.I stood up so fas

SWEET POISONNOELLE'S POVThe flowers smelled beautiful.Soft pink peonies mixed with delicate white roses, wrapped elegantly in brown paper and tied with a simple ribbon. Derek handed them to me as I settled into the passenger seat of his car, his expression gentle and without any pressure.“I saw these and thought of you,” he said quietly. “ Just something to brighten a tough day.”I held the bouquet close to my chest, inhaling the sweet scent. Tears stung my eyes again.“Thank you,” I whispered. My voice was hoarse from crying earlier. “You didn’t have to do this.”Derek started the car and pulled away from the curb smoothly.“I wanted to,” he replied simply. “You’ve been through a lot. You deserve someone who notices when you’re hurting.”The car was warm and quiet. No loud music. No awkward small talk. Just the low hum of the engine and the city lights passing by. Derek drove without asking where I wanted to go, but he seemed to sense I needed calm. He eventually pulled into a qu

PINK PEONIES AND DESPERATIONNOELLE'S POVThe moment I stepped into the DANS building the next morning, I felt it.The shift. The air was different today. It was heavier, charged with whispers and curious glances. Heads turned as I walked through the lobby. A group of assistants near the reception desk stopped talking abruptly when they saw me, then quickly looked away, murmuring behind their hands. My stomach twisted.I kept my head high, clutching my bag tighter as I headed toward the elevators. My heels clicked against the marble floor, each step feeling louder than the last. I could feel eyes on me from every direction. They know. The thought made my skin crawl.By the time I reached my floor, the whispers had followed me like shadows. I kept my eyes straight ahead, refusing to look at anyone, but I could hear fragments as I passed cubicles.“…saw her getting into Derek’s car yesterday…”“…after that lady showed up yesterday…”“…Roman looked so uncomfortable…”I swallowed hard and
