LOGINCHAPTER SEVEN
“What decision have you made?” Jason asked over the phone.Elizabeth took a deep breath, she so desperately wanted to say yes, if not for anything but for the sake of her mother but she could not bring the words of her mouth.“Are you there?”“Yes, I’m sorry. I was just… forget it.”“Your answer, Elizabeth” Jason said, reminding her.“I really want to be a surrogate because of the money involved but I have thought about this so much and I don’t feel comfortable giving my egg out for your deed and I’m sorry if I have wasted your time but my answer is No.”“I see. Even if I tell you that you can keep the money and I would personally make sure your mother gets the best treatment, any doctor in the world has to offer? Would your answer still be No?”“How do you know about my mother?”“I have my sources, Elizabeth and I know she is the reason you are even considering doing the surrogacy. I understand and would like to take care of her treatment, you just have to say yes to bearing my baby.”“Why are you so hell bent on making me your surrogate?” Elizabeth asked confused.“I don’t know yet, that’s what I want to find out, why I am intrigued and interested in you.”“I am still a virgin, I lied yesterday when you asked me.” Elizabeth blurted and then wondered why she had said that. There was a pause on the other side of the line and for a minute Elizabeth thought hat maybe he had given up and hung up… she thought wrong“Why are you still a virgin?”“What business of it is yours? I am a virgin and I don’t think surrogacy allows virgins, right?” Elizabeth asked.“It does but it is quite obvious you do not want any part in this and I am sorry if I seem to be forcing you. You shouldn’t do something you do not want to do, if you would excuse me. I will have your name taken off the list. Have a good night rest, Elizabeth.”“No…wait! Please wait, I’m sorry, I just have… I am interested, my answer is Yes. I would give you my egg and be your surrogate if you promise not to renege on your deal to treat my mother.” Elizabeth breathed“I don’t break deals, Elizabeth. When should I expect you tomorrow, you still have to sign the contract.”“I will be at your office as early as possible"“No, you will be coming over to my house, you still have my card that holds my address?” He asked“Yes I have it with me.”“Good, see you.” He said and then the line went dead.Elizabeth looked up from the phone and saw the concerned look of Mara’s face.“I thought you said you wouldn’t go through with it.” She muttered“Yes I did and that is what I told him the first time but he knows about my mother being sick, I don’t know how he found out but he said he would send her to the best hospital in the world if I accept his terms of surrogacy.”“He said that to you? What does this man want from you? Isn’t it strange that he is hell bent on you being the one that bears his child?” Mara noted sitting on the bed with her friend.“He said he finds me both intriguing and interesting and he wants to get to know me. For God sake, the man is a freaking billionaire. Why would he want to get to know me at all, I am nothing.”“You are smart and beautiful, Liz. You are far from nothing and I can see exactly what he sees in you, do not ever downplay yourself.”“Thank you Mar, I love you so much.” Elizabeth said hugging her friend.“Don’t worry, everything will be fine and you are going to absolutely nail this and be so rich that I will be booking appointments just to see you.”“Don’t be silly Mar, you are going to be rich alongside me.” Elizabeth smiled.“I am a leech remember, stuck to your body forever.”They both laughed as Mara made sound she considered leechy. When Elizabeth laid down to sleep, she thought about how her life was about to change for the better if she could just make it through a year being a surrogate. She was going to do this for her mother and brother and also for Mara. The next morning, Elizabeth woke up with a new surge of energy, she hummed as she took her bath and hummed as she kissed her mother goodbye and circled to Jason’s house. The housekeeper welcomed her again and directed her to some waiting room, this one equally breathtaking. She wondered if she was going to live here for the duration of the pregnancy and hoped she was, it was a beautiful home.“You are here” Jason said on entering.Elizabeth stood up immediately he entered, her heart slamming against her rib cage, he had jeans on and no shirt.Breath whooshed out of Elizabeth’s lungs at the sight of his flat, well muscled belly and hair running straight from his chest and down into his…Her eyes flew up immediately to meet his, she was blushing to the roots of her hair and he knew why.“You can sit” he said watching her with intense eyes.Elizabeth resisted the urge to fan her face as she was still blushing so hard, her face was probably looking like an overripe tomato. He wasn’t saying anything, just watching her which made Elizabeth very self aware.“You are really beautiful, blushing hard like that.” He finally said.Elizabeth groaned and then looked up at him.“I am so sorry for staring, you caught me off-guard and I could not help myself. It won’t repeat itself again, I promise.”“What if I want it to” he murmured quietlyElizabeth pretended as though she did not hear him but she was still blushing hard and that was enough proof that she had heard every word he had said.NATHAN“I really do not want to do this” Ray muttered for the umpteenth time that morning and I ignored him as usual.Immediately Camilla had walked out with Denver, I began preparations to go to the vineyard.First I did call Christian and I told him my plan which he confirmed was a terrible idea.“What if it is a trap? What are you going to do then?”“It is not a trap if she has no idea I am coming” I answered.“But you don’t know that she has no idea. I do not trust this Ray person as far as he can be thrown. You need to be careful, Nathan. What does Camilla have to say about your little escapede”I was silent for a bit which told him all he had to know.“She has no idea about it, does she? You are going to run off to danger and she does not know?”“I am trying to save her, Christian. This is my fight and involving Camilla will only put her in harm’s way. I need to figure this out myself one way or another and this is the best course of action”“It is not the best course of action
CAMILLAIt was decided that Denver and I would visit the town council together and have Dexter invited too for the meeting. When I came downstairs, Nathan was already seated by the dining area near the window with coffee in front of him that looked untouched. The morning light cut across his face and made him look far too composed for a man who had spent part of the previous evening threatening to kill someone.Denver sat opposite him, reading through something on his tablet with a permanent frown etched across his face like sleep had not improved his mood in any way.Hannah moved between tables with breakfast trays, carefully avoiding all three of us and still looking guilty no doubt for her part in the mess we were in now.Nathan looked up first when he saw me and smiled which immediately made me suspicious.“Morning, debutante.”I stopped at the table and narrowed my eyes.“Why are you smiling like that?”“Like what?”“Like someone hiding a body under the table and trying to stop m
NATHANAfter the meeting with Denver who had decided he was going to be staying after all and that he would have words with the town council on why the project and agreement with them was not going well. I decided to resume my questioning of Ray.I found Hannah immediately and she confirmed she had kept Ray in a room.“Where?” I asked. She seemed skeptical in telling me and was instead looking over my shoulder no doubt for Camilla who was the one person she believed could stop me from flying off the handle.“I really do not want to ask again”.“He is already battered enough and…”“I need just five more minutes with him. I want him to do something else for me”Hannah nodded and led me to the room she had stashed Ray in one of the smaller guest rooms near the end of the corridor. He was sitting at the edge of the bed and the second he saw me, he bolted upright so fast, his eyes wide with panic.“Jesus…”“Relax, Ray… he only just wants to talk, that is it”Ray did not look like he believ
CAMILLARay was tied up on a chair in Nathan’s room by the time I had propelled myself inside.Where the hell had he gotten a rope? I thought, mid panic.“Nathan”He held a hand up, silencing me.“Ray was just telling me how he met with Leila” He said.I turned to Ray who was already sporting a bruised lips.He looked terrified.“I do not know what you are talking about and this is not legal. I will have you reported to the cops and I will sue you to one inch of your miserable…”His words were cut off when Nathan’s fists slammed into his jaw, snapping his head to the side. The sound cracked through the room so loudly that I physically flinched.“Nathan!” I shouted.Ray groaned, blood spilling properly now from the side of his mouth.Nathan flexed his fingers once like he had merely swatted away a fly. Then he looked at me with cold eyes.“I asked him one simple question,” Nathan said evenly. “How the hell did he meet her and what else do they plan to do”“You cannot beat answers out o
CAMILLAI could not believe what I was hearing.“What did you do?” Nathan asked calmly only he was anything but calm judging by the way his palms were now in fists by his side.“I had no idea who you were when we were approached by a woman. She simply introduced herself as Leila and offered us some money and that she would reach out when it is time to do the job.”“Who else is in on this?” I asked.I placed a hand on Nathan’s arm and felt him flinch.“Dexter and Ray… just them and of course us. That is all I know of.” she turned to Nathan, her eyes pleading.“I am really sorry. I needed the money and it wasn’t until you both arrived that I decided to find out who you both were and realized. I told Ray I was out and did not want to involve myself in whatever she has planned. I even returned the money to him and asked him to inform the lady. I should have known he would still do this”Nathan exhaled slowly, leaning away from Hannah.I watched him run his fingers slowly through his hair a
NATHAN“Ray took the picture” Camilla burst out of the inn, panting as she shook the phone in my face.“What do you mean, Ray took the picture. I do not remember seeing Ray at all at the…” my voice trailed off.“I did see him but I wasn’t sure. Why would he…”“You said it could be Leila or Eleanor’s family or even both of them so we find Ray and we question him. I am thinking we involve Hannah. They are close and I feel like Ray would say something if she is in the picture”“I am going to kill him” I muttered.“You are going to be quiet and allow me handle this my way, Nathan Clark”I folded my arms and regarded her with a grin.I know, I know…It is cliche for a man to consider a woman hot when she is bossing him around but come on, have you seen Camilla Rodrigues? She was the definition of hot and I would be a fool not to acknowledge that.“Since when did you become the boss, Debutante?”She rolled her pretty eyes like I knew she would.“And we are back to that. You know sometimes I
CAMILLA“I should have known Williams that the first thing you do immediately we reconnect is screw me the fuck over” I heard Nathan snap as soon as I stepped into the lodge.“You did not want my publicity” He raved. “What better way to get them to see your resort than having two competitors in the sa
NATHANShe wasn’t saying anything which was unlike her.I expected that she would bombard me with questions immediately Sarah left but she was quiet… too quiet.“Well?” I prompted“Do you want to talk about it?” She asked.I had never wanted to talk about how sour my marriage had gone with Eleanor until
CAMILLANathan walked in the next morning, stopping when he saw I was already seated.I rose to my feet, stepping out from my desk“Good morning, Mr Clark… is there anything I can do for you this morning” I declared in a singsong voice. He cleared his throat.“Nothing at the moment, Camilla but I will le
CAMILLAI could feel the stares on my back as Nathan and I walked out of the office. He stopped at the reception for a bit while I walked ahead, my breath shaky. It was bad enough that they thought I had come in here through my family means now they would no doubt be talking about Nathan and wondering
