LOGINCHAPTER SIX
“What did you tell him? When he asked if you were a virgin, what did you say?” Mara asked, squatting in the floor beside me. They were picking beans for their dinner, Mara had plans to sleepover because Darren had practice and he was going to be spending the night at a friend’s place.Honestly Elizabeth knew that he was merely trying to get away from her for a while and their mother, seeing as she had sprung taking care of their mother for the duration of time she would be gone. She could hardly blame him for wanting to be free with the time he had left.“I panicked and I said no, now I regret it because what if he was asking because the procedure involves something going through my vagina. What am I going to do then?” Elizabeth wailed.“You have to tell him the truth, just let him know that you panicked and you are indeed a twenty four years old virgin, let’s see how well he would take you lying already. I am sure he would say ‘oh wow, that’s great. You are perfect for the job’”“Are you being sarcastic right now, Mara?” Elizabeth asked pushing her playfully.“There is no need for you to go back and tell him you are a virgin, just go with the flow of things. I highly doubt they are going to stick things in your vagina or you could ask your boss’ son, the one who is always around you smiling and laughing at everything that proceeds from your mouth to deflower you, I am sure he would be more than happy to.”“You are disgusting” Elizabeth said making a face while Mara laughed“Still, I don’t think I should even agree to his demands of using my egg. I mean, look at it, I would have an emotional attachment to the child. It would be my child too, isn’t that just to personal?”“Are you crazy? You are backing out on having a child for the top billionaire of this country. Did you hit your head somewhere, my friend?”“I’m not kidding, Mara. I don’t want to have to give out my egg for his procedure. Why does he so desperately want a child anyways.”“Liz, you literally lose the egg every time you have your period every month, I don’t know why you are finding it difficult to give out one now and remember your mother, she is the reason you are doing this. It is also not your business why he wants a child, just that you will be the woman to bear it for him.”“I don’t know Mara, I’m having a real weird feeling about this whole thing, I should tell him that I am virgin incase that is going to ruin the whole process.” I sighed“If you say so, now pick these things. My fingers hurt from filing paper all day at the office, I need a new job and you, my friend are my gateway.”“If I did not know better, I would call you a leech.” Elizabeth said laughing at Mara who stuck her tongue out and proceeded to lay on the floor. She was having bad feelings about being a surrogate but it was probably because that was new uncharted territory to her and she was going to have to give out her egg but as Mara had said, what was the big deal?…Jason was having the most irritating time of his life. He wanted to be anywhere but in this meeting with this old couple who had no idea what they wanted to do with their money.“Mr Badggerman, I believe your wife is right. You both should have a joint share in our company, seeing that all of your properties are in both your names.”“I don’t want that! I want separate shares from my wife’s.” The man yelled.Jason was sure he was probably deaf in both ears because he always yelled.“You cannot do that, we agreed to always have our money and properties together, this would not be an exception.” The woman responded, yelling too.Maybe she was also deaf, Jason thoughtHe tuned them out, his mind straying till it finally settled on Elizabeth, his surrogate… soon to be if she accepted his offer. She was a weird one, many girls would have jumped at the opportunity to bear a child for him at any time of the day but she… it was like she did not care about how important or rich he was, now that was intriguing and very weird. After much argument, the woman agreed to a separate account only if her shares were bigger than his.Jason escorted them out of his office and slammed the door but not before letting his secretary know that he won’t be accepting any more clients for the day, he could already feel a migraine coming on.His phone rang just as he was about to sit down“Jason Rodrigues speaking”“You would not believe what little information I just found out the girl you asked me to research.”Jason’s ears peaked up at the mention of Elizabeth’s name, he had employed a private detective to conduct a background check on her to be sure of what he was getting into.“Spill”“She has a sick mother, did she tell you that? Her mother has been diagnosed with cancer and she needs a lot of money to treat her. She is in dire need of the money but so far she is a very quiet and intelligent Individual, no scandal whatsoever.”“Thank you” Jason muttered, hanging up the phoneHer mother was sick, he thought to himself. He had been wondering why a person like her would want to be a surrogate but now he knew and suddenly an idea popped in his head. He was going to take care of her mother’s surgery and also pay her double for her egg, if she needed the money as badly as the detective had said then she wouldn’t reject such a generous offer from him.“Interesting” Jason growled.CAMILLA“Before you kill me…”My father’s voice greeted me the second I stepped into the living room.I paused in the doorway and narrowed my eyes at him.He sat comfortably on the sofa, one ankle resting on his knee, looking entirely too pleased with himself for a man who had conspired behind my back.“How did it go with Nathan?” he asked.“I cannot believe you would band together with Nathan Clark to manipulate me into speaking to him.”My father placed a hand over his chest in mock offense.“I cannot believe it either but here we are, little dove.”Despite myself, my lips twitched. He patted the empty spot beside him.“Besides,” he continued, “you were miserable and I wanted to do anything I could to cheer you up.”A reluctant smile tugged at my mouth as I crossed the room and collapsed onto the sofa beside him.“I can see you are cheered up,” he observed.I let out a dramatic sigh and flopped sideways, resting my head against the back cushion.“He explained everything and I told h
NATHANFor a man who had gone through the roughest arc of life and came out on top, I had never been more terrified than I was at the moment.Camilla kept her eyes on me, waiting, her fingers tapping away at the table.Sarah appeared with two steaming bowls of soup and a basket of bread. She placed them between us and looked from Camilla to me then she narrowed her eyes at me.“If she stabs you with the spoon, I saw nothing.”“Thank you, Sarah,” Camilla said sweetly.Sarah patted her shoulder.“You are welcome, sweetheart.”She cast me another glare before she walked away.I watched her leave before turning back to the woman who had completely ruined me for every other woman on the planet. Her expression was unreadable so I had no idea how to know what she was thinking.I took a deep breath.“I am sorry.”“That is your opening line?” Her eyebrow arched at this.“Yes and I mean it.”She picked up her spoon and stirred the soup absently.“You vanished for two weeks, ignored my calls and
CAMILLAI was not in the mood for anything that day.My desk was a mess of files, half-open emails, and a coffee that had gone cold at least an hour ago.I exhaled sharply and pushed the document away like it had personally offended me.“Men,” I muttered under my breath. My secretary’s voice came through the intercom a second later.“Ma’am, your client is here.”Right.The last-minute meeting my father had “strongly encouraged” me to take.I sat up straighter.“Send them in,” I said, smoothing my blouse automatically.I did not bother looking up when the door opened.“Hey.” My fingers froze on the pen in my hand.I hoped to God it wasn’t it but when I raised my head, there he was.Nathan in the flesh standing in my office looking infuriatingly calm.My grip tightened on the pen.“What the hell are you doing here?” I asked slowly. “I have a client coming through that door in some minutes. You cannot be here”My voice came out sharper than I intended. His eyes held mine and he took a c
NATHANLeila looked oddly calm for a woman currently in handcuffs.Perhaps because she still thought she had a way out of this or perhaps because she still believed someone would come for her.No one was coming. The black SUV came to a stop outside the building and the men waiting stepped out almost immediately. One flashed a badge.DEA.“You bastard” she muttered under her breath.I almost smiled.Christian had been the one to bring the idea to me after I informed him of everything that happened.Apparently, a friend of his knew someone in federal law enforcement and Leila’s organization had been on their radar for years. Drugs. Illegal arms movement. Money laundering. The problem had always been getting close enough to pin anything substantial on her.Leila was careful and meticulous which was precisely why she had survived this long.Until she made the mistake of touching Camilla. That had been the beginning of the end for her.The agents approached us and one of them nodded toward
CAMILLA Two weeks later…I was glaring at the television as Nathan spoke to the press about what seemed to be the biggest case in television history.“He seems to be handling it well” My father commented, taking a seat beside me.He had decided to skip work for the day because it was nearing the anniversary of meeting my mother and he was planning something that he did not want her to know about.“Yes, he does” I muttered under my breath.“He still has not contacted you?” My father asked knowingly.I shook my head in the negative. You heard that right. It had been two weeks since Nathan’s crazy ex put a gun to my head and he was ignoring me.When he had asked me to return with my father while he handled things, I should have known that included cutting me off from his life totally. It made no sense.I had tried to give him the benefit of doubt by waiting for him to call me. I figured he was probably still handling things with Denver but imagine my surprise when I turn on the televisio
NATHAN“Why exactly can we not kill her?” Dante asked for the umpteenth time.We had Leila tied up which she found very absurd as she glared at us, not saying anything.“She is…”“Yes, the leader of a small city gang. She can easily be killed” Dante said. “I can carve her up into bits and pieces so her people have a field day finding every part of her in every corner of the city” He added. He did not seem to be joking and Camilla looked horrified at this.“As much as I appreciate that very gruesome description. Nathan has mentioned it will be a hassle if she is discovered.”“But she would not be discovered” Dante sighed. He approached Leila and squatted until they were on eye level.“Hi Leila, you must have heard about me. I am Dante Russo of Italy”Leila’s eyes flickered with recognition but she said nothing.“I know my brother in law really abhors violence but I do not. They all want to keep you alive but I say we kill you so this never repeats itself.”“My people will come after yo
CAMILLAI sighted my uncle the moment I walked into the restaurant. For someone who had been the brunt of a lot of media attacks, he looked good.“Hey uncle” I smiled lightly, taking the seat in front of me.He smiled back at me.“You are all grown” He murmured.“If you had bothered to keep in touc
NATHANIf it were left to me, I would have asked Denver to shove it and gotten on the next plane out of the countryside.I hated the countryside… I hated small towns. It had nothing to do with the people or the things it had to offer which wasn’t much if we are being honest. My problem with small to
CAMILLAI got on the phone with my mother immediately I landed and she had questions particularly about why I did not think to tell her about Darren and that he had contacted me.“I wanted him to speak to you first and I know how much you have missed your brother and how much you have been wanting
CAMILLAAfter the previous day encounter and the kiss… I wasn’t sure I wanted to be on the same team with Nathan. In all honesty, I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted. My lips still tingled from the memory of Nathan’s kiss, and yet, the feeling did NOT settle in the way I expected. It wasn’t the passion
