INICIAR SESIÓNPOV: Elena
"Are you insane?"
I ripped my hand out from under his palm, sliding backward on the massive silk mattress until my back hit the heavy velvet headboard. My breath was ragged, my heart slamming against my ribs so hard it felt like it would break.
"Look at the data, Elena!" Alexander roared, slamming the white paper down onto the mattress right in front of my knees. His face was entirely pale, his veins bulging against the skin of his neck. "I don't want to believe it either. But the paternal matching algorithms don't lie. The sequence has a thirty percent overlap that only exists in the direct genetic line of Nathaniel Vance. He didn't pass it to me. He passed it directly to Leo."
"That is impossible!" I shouted back, my voice cracking as I grabbed the paper, my eyes scanning the technical columns. The numbers blurred together, but the bold red stamp at the bottom was clear. Direct Lineage Match: Subject Alpha—Nathaniel Vance. "I never even met your grandfather until the day we signed the marriage contract! He was an old man in a wheelchair, Alexander! How dare you suggest something so disgusting?"
"I am looking at the science, Elena!" Alexander stepped closer, his chest heaving under his unbuttoned white shirt. He looked completely unhinged, his usual cold composure entirely shattered. "My grandfather set up our marriage. He forced me to sign that contract. He gave you five million dollars in alimony clauses that were hidden from the board. Why would an old man care so much about a broke medical student unless he had a stake in your bloodline?"
"He cared because he owed my father his life!" I threw the paper back at his chest, tears of absolute fury burning my eyes. "My father took a bullet for Nathaniel Vance in the old shipping yards twenty years ago! Your grandfather didn't touch me. He protected me because he knew you were a cold, heartless monster who would discard me the moment the three years were up!"
Alexander caught the paper as it fluttered down, his eyes widening slightly as my words hit him. "Then explain the DNA, Elena. Explain why my son has the genetic signature of the patriarch who built this entire empire, but he doesn't match my own markers."
"I don't have to explain anything to you," I whispered, sliding out of the bed. My feet hit the cold hardwood floor, my body still aching from the drug Vivian had injected into my neck. "Leo is my baby. I carried him for nine months. I watched him bleed from his nose every night in that cheap apartment in Geneva while you were attending charity galas with Vivian. I am taking him, and I am using this keycard to get his medicine. If you try to stop me, I will scream down the entire security wing."
I reached for the silver keycard on the mattress, but Alexander moved like lightning. He didn't grab the card. He grabbed my waist, his large, burning hands locking onto my hips and lifting me straight off the floor.
"Let me go!" I thrashed against him, my fists pounding against his hard chest, but he didn't budge. He carried me across the room, pinning my back against the locked door that connected to the adjoining bedroom where Leo was sleeping.
"Listen to me," Alexander growled, his face dropping down into my neck, his breath hot and ragged against my skin. He was squeezing me so tight I could feel the rapid, terrifying thud of his own heart. "I am not letting you leave this room with him. I don't care who his biological father is on a piece of paper. He breathed my air for four years in your womb. He protected you in that warehouse with his little hands. He is a Vance, and you are staying in this house until I figure out what my grandfather did to our family."
"Alexander, please," I choked out, my strength suddenly draining away as his familiar scent completely overwhelmed my senses. The physical proximity was suffocating, a dangerous, heavy heat pulling at the core of my stomach. "Leo is sick. He doesn't have time for your family pride. If I don't synthesize the stem-cell cure in the vault by tomorrow morning, his bone marrow will go into absolute arrest."
Alexander froze, his forehead coming down to rest against mine. His obsidian eyes were swimming with a raw, desperate emotion I had never seen in him during our entire marriage. "The keycard is yours. I already ordered the vault staff to clear the floor for you. I will drive you there myself. But after the cure is made... we are running the test again. In a different lab. With a different doctor."

POV: Alexander
The private laboratory beneath the Vance Premium Vault was completely silent except for the rhythmic hum of the cryogenic centrifuges.
I stood behind the reinforced glass wall, my arms crossed over my chest, watching Elena move through the sterile space. She had changed into a white lab coat, her hair tied back tightly. Her movements were flawless, her fingers steady as she injected the rare synthetic blood compounds into the glowing blue stem-cell matrix.
She looked magnificent. She wasn't the quiet girl who used to wait for me in the dark with a plate of cold dinner. She was a creator, holding our boy's survival in the palm of her hand.
The door to the observation room slid open, and Mark walked in, holding a black leather briefcase. His face looked incredibly grim.
"Sir," Mark said, keeping his voice low so it wouldn't shatter the silence. "We just finished the deep-tier sweep of the grandfather's private safe at the old coastal estate. We found something that wasn't included in the original inheritance files."
"Did you find a record of a medical procedure?" I asked, my eyes never leaving Elena's back through the glass.
"No, sir. We found a secret appendix to the marriage contract," Mark said, opening the briefcase and pulling out a yellowed piece of paper signed by my grandfather eight years ago. "Look at the date, Chairman. He signed this document exactly two hours before he forced you into the arranged marriage with Miss Elena."
I took the paper, my eyes scanning the elegant, old-fashioned handwriting of the man who raised me.
To the executors of the Vance Estate, the paper read. If my grandson, Alexander, dissolves his marriage with Elena Lin before a child of her bloodline is recognized by the main vault, the entire controlling interest of Vance Global Enterprises will automatically transfer to a hidden trust. That trust is registered under the name of Elena's biological mother.
My breath caught in my throat. "Elena's mother? She died when Elena was an infant. Her father told me she died in poverty."
"That's what the public record says, sir," Mark whispered. "But we just ran a biometric trace on the trust's offshore accounts. The trustee who has been withdrawing funds from that account for the past five years... is Vivian's mother, Eleanor West."
The paper crumpled in my fist. A dark, sickening realization began to piece itself together in my mind. The kidnapping at the warehouse, Vivian's sudden return, the doctored DNA results from my own hospital lab.
"The DNA test was a fake," I muttered, my voice dropping into a low, murderous growl. "Vivian's family didn't just want to eliminate Elena. They altered the hospital registry five years ago to make me think Elena was cheating on me if she ever got pregnant. And they altered the current test to make me think Leo isn't mine, so I would legally reject him and trigger the grandfather's clause."
"Sir!" Mark shouted suddenly, pointing at the glass.
Inside the lab, the main alarm began to flash red. Elena suddenly gasped, dropping her glass pipette as she clutched her own stomach, her body collapsing against the edge of the steel laboratory counter.

POV: Elena
The room was spinning.
A sharp, agonizing pain radiated from my lower abdomen, identical to the cramping I felt right before I fainted in the warehouse. Vivian hadn't just given me a sedative. The chemical was burning through my bloodstream, attacking my internal systems.
"Elena!"
The heavy glass door was thrown open, and Alexander burst into the lab. He didn't care about the bio-hazard warnings or the sterile environment. He threw his arms around my waist just as my knees gave out, lifting me onto his chest as I began to choke on my own breath.
"The matrix..." I wheezed, pointing a trembling finger at the glowing blue vial on the counter. "It's done... it's ready for Leo... don't let it spoil..."
"Forget the vial!" Alexander roared, his face covered in sweat as he pressed his hand against my stomach, feeling the violent tremors racking my muscles. "Mark! Get the emergency medical cart in here now! She's bleeding!"
I looked down at my white lab coat. A dark, terrifying crimson stain was rapidly spreading across the fabric near my waist.
"No," I whispered, a cold, hollow dread freezing my soul as I clutched Alexander's shoulders, my fingers digging into his skin with absolute desperation. "Alex... the test I took in Europe last week... it wasn't just for Leo..."
Alexander froze, his eyes locking onto mine, his face completely pale. "What are you saying, Elena?"
"I am eight weeks pregnant, Alexander," I choked out, a warm tear spilling over my cheek as the darkness began to pull me under for the second time today. "The baby... your second child... Vivian poisoned me to kill them both..."
My grip on his shirt loosened, my hand falling limply to my side as the alarms above us screamed into the night.
Alexander POV"You sold us out again, Julian!" I snarled.I didn't give him time to turn the key a second time. I drove my shoulder straight into his chest, pinning his back against the steel wall panel until the digital screen cracked under his spine. My left hand crushed his throat, choking off his air, while my right hand reached down to rip the heavy steel key out of the lock."Alex, don't!" Julian gasped, his eyes bulging as his hands clawed at my wrists. "You turn that key back... and the sub's auto-destruct triggers! It's hardwired into the navigation console!""Then we all sink right here," I growled, my face inches from his, the dark blue lines on my neck burning hot against my skin."Alex, let him talk," Elena said, her voice steady as she pushed herself up from the floorboards. She grabbed my arm, her fingers sinking into my bicep with a firm, grounding pressure. "Julian, look at me. Look at my eyes."Julian shifted his gaze toward her, his breath catching in his throat as
Alexander POV"Elena!" I dropped to my knees, my hands sliding under her shoulders to drag her head onto my lap.Her back arched off the steel deck, her knees locking tight as her dark eyes rolled into the back of her head. The red lines on her arm were turning pitch black, spreading up past her elbow like liquid ink under her skin."Mark, get this ship moving!" I screamed over the hum of the battlecruiser's engines. "Get the medical team on deck now!""They're already coming, Chairman!" Mark shouted from the upper bridge, slamming his hand onto the thruster controls as the ship surged forward, leaving Julian's broken wooden pier behind in the churning wake. "The central medical bay is prepped, but the scanners are reading her body temperature at one hundred and five degrees! Her system is burning up!""Alex..." Elena gasped, her hands blindly grabbing my torn shirt. Her grip was terrifyingly strong, her short nails digging into my chest until I felt skin break. She pulled my face dow
POV: Alexander"You take one thumb off that button," I said, "and I will tear your remaining arm out of its socket."Arthur Sterling laughed, a wet, rattling sound that sprayed blood over his burned jaw. "Look at you, Alexander. Still acting like you own the room. You think I care if you kill me? My liver is shredded. My lungs are full of river salt. I'm dead in twenty minutes anyway."Behind the thick glass of the escape pod hatch, Elena was screaming. Her hands were pounding against the reinforced pane, her bloody palms leaving dark smears across the viewsite. Leo was right behind her, his small face pressed against the glass, his eyes wide and completely unblinking."Drop the detonator, Arthur," I growled, taking a slow step down the narrow steel pipe."Step back!" Arthur shrieked, his thumb pressing harder against the red plastic switch on the casing. A sharp electronic beep echoed in the narrow corridor. "You pull that manual release lever, and the spark hits the secondary fuel t
Elena POVI froze, the freezing water in my shoes completely forgotten. My hands hovered inches above Leo's shoulders, my breath catching in my throat. The seven-year-old boy I had raised, the child I had carried through dark rooms and hidden away from my father's soldiers, was standing straight. His posture wasn't slouched anymore. His head was tilted at a precise, unnatural angle, his dark eyes staring at the glowing blue incubators with a cold, terrifying satisfaction."Leo?" I whispered, my voice breaking. "Baby, step back from the glass. Come to Mom.""He isn't your baby, Elena," Alexander said, his voice dropping into a dangerous, gravelly register.Alexander didn't hesitate. He grabbed Leo by the collar of his jacket, yanked him backward off the crate, and slammed him behind his back, shielding him with his massive frame. His rifle was raised, the barrel aimed squarely at the digital screen of the transport crate."Alex, don't shoot!" I shrieked, grabbing his bare, blood-staine
POV: Alexander"You should have died in the river, Mark," I said, my voice low and dark as I pulled my hand away from Elena's bleeding palm.I didn't reach for a gun. I stepped right in front of the two glowing blue incubators, my body forming a solid wall between the camera lens on the wall and my family. The sub rocked hard under my boots, the heavy diesel auxiliary generators humming in the floorboards."I don't die easily, Chairman," Mark's voice crackled through the PA speaker, smooth and completely distant. "You know how the Cartel operates. We don't take sides in family rivalries. We simply collect the assets when the dust settles. You have fifteen seconds left on that timer.""Mark, look at me," Elena called out, stepping up right beside my elbow. Her left hand was wrapped in a strip of torn fabric from her shirt, fresh blood soaking through the cloth, but her posture was rigid. "You worked in my lab in Zurich for two years. You know the biological structure of those pods. If
POV: Alexander"Put the gun down, old man," I growled, taking one heavy step toward him, my body positioning itself right between his gun barrel and my son.My knuckles were split wide open, blood dripping onto the steel floor, but I didn't feel it. I only saw the red flashing lights of the incubators behind me. The synthetic fluid was almost completely gone from the pods. The tiny hearts on the monitor screen were spattering into irregular, dying rhythms."Don't move, Alexander!" Nathaniel shrieked, his hands trembling so violently the pistol barrel shook in the air. "I built this entire network! I gave you life! I gave you those children! You don't get to walk away with my legacy!""Dad!" Leo screamed, clutching my leg from behind, his small body shivering against my wet trousers."Stay still, Leo," I muttered, my left hand reaching down to lock around my son's shoulder, holding him flush against the back of my thigh. "He isn't shooting anyone.""I will put a bullet through his head
