LOGINLayla's POV
I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me whole at this point, because I was exhausted.
He looked at me, expecting an answer.
I was about to answer, but he tightened his grip around my shoulder and pinched my chin hard.
“Answer me!” he suddenly roared.
I forced back tears that were about to fall.
I looked at him indifferently and scoffed.
“So, I had it removed. Is cosmetic surgery new to you?”
He looked at me, seemingly doubting what I said.
“I don’t know what twisted game you are playing, Raina Ross. Don’t forget the reason I married you, to make your life a living hell.”
I smirked.
He let go of me and started walking away.
“Don’t forget who can cure your insomnia,” I said smoothly
He abruptly stopped.
“Are you threatening me?” The heat radiating from his body could roast me.
I smiled sweetly, “Nope, just reminding you.”
I knew I was playing with fire, but I just couldn’t help myself.
He clenched his fists and stormed off.
As he left, I felt the weight of what he said
“To make your life a living hell.”
I wasn’t going to let that happen
Well, I had a case to attend to.
An hour later, I slipped into a black fitted dress, threw on a coat, headed for the law firm, grabbed my case file and headed to the courtroom.
I walked up to the stand, striding confidently, and the man I was supposed to help gave me a pleading look. I gave him a smirk in return.
Your honor, I started submitting the evidence on the table.
“Let’s talk about what my client has been up to, and by that I mean his criminal activities.”
I turned and glanced at my client. I felt satisfied seeing his face drenched in color, and he became pale.
He was jailed, and I got out. I felt free, one less criminal on the streets, and I breathed a sigh of relief.
An idea suddenly struck me: if I was going to be Raina Ross, I might as well know how much she was worth.
I headed to the Bank, on my way, I noticed the way people gave me glares, and I was wondering what was wrong. I glanced at my phone and saw the news; all the media outlets talked about was me.
I wondered if I had offended Mother Nature, why me? I cried internally, I was genuinely sad by this.
I silently wondered how Dominic Foster would react to this; it won’t affect him, after all, the world doesn’t know we are married.
One blog said,
Raina Ross gone Rogue?
I got so distracted by the news, I didn’t notice a black van pulling up beside me and dragging me to their van. When I realised what was happening, I was already in the van.
I had been kidnapped. Who was going to come to my rescue?
Dominic Foster wouldn’t help me, I bet he will even be delighted.
My hands trembled in fear.
The answer to my question came hitting me like a ton of bricks.
It was him, the guy I first jailed, when I assumed Raina’s position.
I shivered and bit my lower lip continuously.
“Raina Ross, you betrayed me after taking $50million.”
My eyes widened, and I was beyond shocked.
“You were supposed to be in jail,” I said, fear evident in my voice.
“Welcome to the world of the wealthy,” he laughed like a lunatic.
I needed to get out of this rat hole.
Dominic Foster better come get me soon, or he could kiss his dreams of curing his insomnia goodbye.
I was desperately looking for how to escape, then I was blindfolded. How was I supposed to use hypnosis? Now, I was at my breaking point.
I was suddenly dragged into a dark, empty room, and I was locked in.
I felt time fly by, then the door slowly creaked open, his footsteps were slow, deliberate and slowly closing in.
He stood there with a smile plastered on his face.
“You should have just stuck to our previous arrangement.” He sneered.
I remained indifferent and cold despite my fear and trembling hands; I couldn’t show my fear ever again, not now, not ever.
With my new resolve, I looked him in the eye and said, “I don’t stick with criminals.”
He turned livid, I could have sworn he could kill me at that moment.
“We’ll see about that,” he laughed menacingly.
I refused to back down, even if it meant getting beaten. With unwavering determination, I was about to hit him in a vital spot, but suddenly, a sound echoed from the hallway.
“Looks like we have company,” he said and walked away.
“Could it be Dominic Foster?” I murmured, half believing, half hoping.
I heard footsteps, coming closer, and by now I was petrified.
Then a tall, dark figure appeared
“Who are you?” I asked.
“I left you for a few hours, and you go about causing trouble,” Dominic Foster’s sarcastic remark made me so glad.
I never thought there would be a day I would be so happy to see him. He came over, removed my blindfolds, and released me.
I was admiring him when his rude voice stopped me in my dream world.
“When you are done eye-rapping me, can we get moving?” his cold, domineering voice angered me once more. I stormed off in annoyance, forgetting he was the one who helped me; at this point, I didn’t care.
Then I suddenly remembered something and stopped in my tracks.
“The guy who kidnapped me could be outside.” My fear was detectable.
“Don’t worry, I have taken care of him, he won’t bother you anymore, and let’s gets one thing straight, the only reason why I saved you was because you were the only one that could cure my insomnia, don’t think I have fallen in love with you or something” the arrogance in his voice was beyond my comprehension.
“Dominic Foster, please understand I am not interested in you,” I proudly declared.
“Keep playing hard to get, we’ll see how much you can keep that up.”
This was it, it was war.
We went downstairs, and all I did was give him glares.
I entered his car, and he was driving. Then his smile suddenly wavered, and he said in a cold voice
“They’re here,”
Layla's POVI coughed out blood. He continued to hold my neck.I could tell I would suffocate at any moment. Was he doing this for Maisie?I wonder how he would react if he knew she was a fake. All that was on my mind was that I needed to confront Raina.I was about to lose consciousness.“Let her go,” a voice came from behind.I could tell who he was.He was my Senior. Our master took us as apprentices. He came before me.He walked up to us. His eyes were blazing with fury. Only he knew why I was here. He was the only friend who knew my real identity. He clenched his fist, raised it and THUD.He punched Dominic Foster. He instantly let me go. The marks on my neck were blaring.“Owen.. I’m fine, you don’t need to worry, I'm fine," my voice was weak.“Does this bastard know you aren’t who he thinks…you are actually,” he was about to reveal my secret.I instinctively used my hands to cover his mouth.Apparently, Dominic Foster saw this as a public display of affection.“You dare flirt
Layla’s POVShe is really here. The person I had been searching for.The air went still, and it felt as if time had frozen. My gaze fixed on the figure wearing a black cloak.I couldn’t see her, but I could feel it. She was the one.I stepped down from the stairs nervously. It’s been a long time since I saw Raina, although we never had a normal childhood, I still loved her.I finally got to where she was, as I was about to reach out my hand to touch her, Maisie came out of a room screaming. Her eyes scanned the room like an eagle. Her gaze filled with hatred and murderous intent. Finally, her eyes landed on me. She launched forward, about to attack me.I skillfully dodged.“You did this, didn’t you?” she screamed at the top of her lungs, attracting people from elite families. I tried to remain as composed as usual. I glanced at where Raina had been. She had disappeared. She probably figured put I had seen her.I was lost in thought for a moment, and I turned my face to Maisie only t
Layla’s POVMaisie walked towards me, each click of her heels ringing through the room. Her presence was obvious, and the sly grin on her face gave her away. I knew she was up to no good.I was wondering what elaborate scheme she had to destroy me.She walked past me as if I were some insignificant being.Dominic Foster left me to talk to one of his partners. I was bored I decided to explore the villa.I walked towards a room where I heard strange sounds. My face turned crimson when I realized what they were doing.I awkwardly left the surroundings and went to the corridor. I was staring at the moon and stars when a handsome man approached me. He was holding two drinks in his hands.“May I have the pleasure of talking with this young beauty?” He said, handing over a glass of drink to me.I didn’t reply to him. I just took the drink and placed it on the terrace. He continued pestering me.I took the drink, and as I was about to drink it, I noticed there were slight traces of aphrodisi
Layla’s POVWhy was Maisie White in this video?Could that be the reason she was anxious about this drive?I thought she was Dominic’s life slifesaverwasn’t.While the accident took place, another girl saved Dominic Foster. Why did it feel like I knew the girl who saved Dominic’s life? The person looked like me when I was young.I suddenly felt pain, and then memories flooded my mind. Why did I forget these memories?I saw myself talking to a woman.I remember she was my role model. She encouraged me to study law. She was the best lawyer in Clover City I was saddened when I heard of her death. But how were these related to Maisie white or that strange man?I had a feeling there was more to it than meets the eye.Dominic’s POVI was invited to a Charity gala.I was asked to bring a plus one.I always attended by myself without any company.I wanted to ask Raina Ross if she would go with me.I didn’t know what I was thinking, but I wanted us to attend the gala together.I was nervous.
Dominic's POVI stared at her, long and hard, observing her. It's been a long I had seen her express hate for anyone. It seemed this guy offended her.I owed her a favour and I had no right to refuse. She helped me with my insomnia.I doubt she will want to help me, considering what I did to her. These past few days, she has been extremely cold and distant towards me and honestly, who could blame her?I was a jerk. Her longing gaze did something to me that I couldn’t quite explain. It made me want to grab her by her neck and kiss her.I didn't know what was going on with me.I had never had the urge to kiss her.Now I just feel tempted by her. She was an enchantress. Her rosy lips pursed to a side, expecting my answer.A part of me wanted her to stay a little longer. She was getting annoyed.“Ahem..sure I’ll ask Xander to look into it,” I told her, trying not to stare at her face.To the outside world, she was single. The world didn’t know of our marriage.I had a sudden urge to claim
Layla’s POVI stopped to stare at him.I kept wondering what secret he could know.I clearly cleaned all traces when using any of my identities to boost him in the social circle. He craved wealth; I gave it to him.He desired recognition; I made him known.Yet this is how he repays me?Three years of my life wasted on this pathetic Cheapskate.“I know you hooked up with different men to help me. How else could a nobody like you have so many connections?” he sounded so sure of what he was saying. He sounded so convincing, I started doubting what I knew and stood for. This was what he thought of me, that I would stoop so low to impress him?I tried not to show hurt or disappointment.“Layla Ross, I can never date someone as disgusting as you.”His last sentence sent my ears ringing.I turned livid.I had never met someone so ungrateful. It was as if my hands suddenly had a mind of their own.I raised my hand and gave him a resounding slap.“How dare you!” he shouted at the top of his lu
