Dominic Foster stared at me, beads of sweat gathered on my forehead. I held my breath, hoping he wouldn’t find out who I was.
I could feel his gaze burning through my skin. After a moment, he turned and left. I breathed a sigh of relief.
Then I stood up, ready to start searching for anything that could help me find my sister’s whereabouts.
But then, a chill crept down my spine.
“So, you were pretending,” his voice laced with anger and disgust.
“N…no,” I stuttered.
I cursed inwardly. Why now, of all times, did I have to stutter?
Suddenly, the door flung open.
A woman walked in, “she was elegantly dressed, her styled hair framing her face,” and her eyes scanning the room like a predator. I didn’t need anyone to tell me. That was Maisie.
I saw a dangerous glint flash through her eyes, and she quickly masked it with a smile.
“Dominic, when did Raina get back?” Maisie’s voice rang through the room like honey laced with poison.
My stomach turned; her voice was sugar and venom.
“Hmph, what a white lotus flower,” I sneered inwardly. Pretty on the outside, rotten to the core.
I couldn’t believe someone like Dominic couldn’t see through her.
“A moment ago,” he replied. His cold, icy voice…” gave me the shivers.”
He took a last glance at me and left.
A dangerous glint flashed through Maisie’s eyes, accompanied by an evil smirk.
“I thought the lessons I gave you were enough to make you stay away,” She said while staring daggers at me.
“Dominic is mine,” an obsessed look flashed through her eyes.
I scoffed, “Take him. I never signed up for damaged goods.” I said my heart was pounding, but my face remained calm.
My sarcastic remark made her eyes widen.
She looked at me for a while longer and stormed off.
I waited for a moment, then I began searching the room again. This time, I found her diary.
The first entry stated, “I married the cold, ruthless billionaire, and my life is a living hell.”
The second entry stated, “Maisie White tortures me for getting married to Dominic Foster.”
The last entry stated, “I have finally fallen in love with the heartless Dominic Foster.”
My head was throbbing with pain, although Raina and I never got along, and she always bullied me, but this was plain foolishness; I was caught between the Devil and the deep blue sea.
I paced around “Raina’s” room, thinking of what to do next. I decided to go downstairs.
I saw Xander biting his lips and anxiously waiting for someone.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, since the way he was walking made me dizzy.
He looked at me, sweating profusely. “Mr. Foster has insomnia and trouble sleeping, the doctor treating him hasn’t arrived, and his condition is getting worse.”
Who would have thought the great Mr. Foster suffers from insomnia…I thought, clearly amused.
“Well, I can help,” I told him resolutely.
“How can you help?” his voice heavy with doubt.
“You will find out when the time comes. Besides, everything comes with a price.” The calculation in my voice was evident at that moment, but I didn’t care.
We got to his room, and he was sweating profusely and furrowing his brows as if he was having a terrible nightmare.
As I wanted to touch his forehead, he suddenly grabbed my hand.
“What are you doing here?” his icy, hoarse voice made my heart flutter for some reason.
Get yourself together, Layla, you can’t let your heart flutter for the person responsible for your sister’s disappearance.
I tried to remain as calm as possible, battling with my inner thoughts, and admiring his looks.
Ahem…I coughed.
“Treating you…what else?” I replied with my eyes darting over the room.
“How are you, of all people, going to treat me?” The disgust and disdain in his voice were even evident.
I smirked, silently counting how many hidden identities I had.
I decided to reveal one of them to him.
“Well, I am Mr. Geon,” I smirked, internally trying to rub my identity in his face. I am not one to brag, but this guy just pushed my buttons.
“Looks like people just claim to be what they are not these days,” he sneered.
“You want proof?” I murmured
I tapped a button, Dominic’s private screen across the room, normally used for high-security investors ‘ meetings, suddenly flashed.
I showed him the transaction under the code name “Geon”
Including our transactions.
I saw his eyes widen in surprise, and then I pulled out a signed black envelope from my coat.
It was a sealed non-disclosed contract, signed with his digital fingerprint, sent months ago, and I quietly tossed it on his bed.
I saw him pick it up, and his hands trembled slightly.
“I never show my face to clients,” I said coolly.
“But I made an exception, congratulations I said with a smug smile.
At that moment, my ego soared to new heights.
The look on his face was priceless.
“Why are you helping me?” he snarled
“Well, I have my reasons, and everything comes with a price,” I replied, looking at his handsome, cold face.
“You have been living at the Fosters’ residence, how come you have never told me about your identity?” Dominic Foster’s sudden question threw me off guard.
I panicked, and I tried to hide it, but his eyes looked at me as if he was trying to uncover all the secrets I had.
“Like I said, everything comes with a price; there wasn’t any need to, well, until now.”
“What are you trying to achieve, Raina Ross? I, Dominic Foster, would never let you have my child.” His gaze threw me off guard.
I looked at him and declared, “I, Raina Ross, am not interested in bearing your children, Mr. Foster.”
“Why would I bear the children of a man I do not love?”
Layla’s POVI had never been so glad to be his fake wife like I was now.He walked towards me, each step he took screamed terror, and he carried an oppressive and chilling aura.Enough to make anyone shiver in their spot.“Who are you?” The middle-aged woman asked, oblivious to the man she was speaking to.“Tina, I think he might be her husband,” Luke whispered, but loud enough to be heard.“Yes, he is,” I said, screaming from the tree I was tied to.Dominic Foster signaled Xander to untie me.My organs as been squashed by the rope. It was big and tight.I walked up to Dominic Foster and hid behind his back.Pretending to be weak is the right approach for now.“So what if he is your husband? You have to pay for driving into the me. Her ignorance was too glaring.Dominic Foster stared at me, waiting for an explanation.I didn’t give him any because I didn’t think he deserved one.“Are there any C.C.T.V. cameras around here?” he asked, ignoring Tina.“Do you think this is a big establis
I had a feeling he doubted his own words. He seemed to believe that I couldn't be the renowned Mr. Honey, but he still chose to ask.“Mr. Foster, the world sees me as Mr. Honey, but you just called me a name I don’t recognize.” I changed my tone of speaking to a French accent.I thought this would prevent him from finding out more about my identities. He didn’t speak, but his eyes followed me, watching me every time.I was showing off one of my priceless works to a client, which was known as the English moon. Many businessmen offered to buy it at a high price, but I never sold it, thinking they didn’t deserve my painting Now it was out for auction because I needed money to find Raina, and I couldn’t use any of my account, so I wouldn’t be found out.It was time for the auction, and I walked past Dominic Foster, his hand brushing mine, and I could feel butterflies in my stomach.Don’t forget what he did to you, Layla, I cautioned myself.I walked over to the podium and set my painting
Layla’s POVI stopped in my tracks. What was I forgetting? Realizing he may be pulling my leg, I masked my expression and turned and giving him an expressionless gaze. He seemed shocked by the coldness radiating from me. If I could, I would have strangled him to death. I stared at him for a long time, and he finally opened his mouth to speak. “Raina… I … I’m…” his stuttering was getting on my nerves. I snorted and left. It was past midnight, and I kept tossing and turning, thinking where Raina could be. I was tired of living her life. I was in a miserable state when I heard a knock at the door. I mumbled lazily and went to open the door. My eyes were barely open. “Madame” Hara’s voice made me widen my eyes. “Yeah.. what do you want?” I yawned lazily. “Thanks for saving me, even though I framed you,” she said with tears gathering in her eyes. “I knew you didn’t do it out of your own free will, it wasn’t your fault,” I said, trying to soothe her. “I know it’s
I opened my eyes, but I wasn’t used to the light yet, so I quickly shut them back.I tried adapting to my environment.I noticed I was in a hospital room.“What happened?” I murmured. Then all my memories came rushing back like a gushing stream.I turned livid and clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms. The doctor suddenly walked in,Mr. Foster, Miss. Ross has been in a coma for two weeks.I almost gasped loudly. That long, at least I lived two more weeks, I was secretly pleased with my comaI thought of this as an opportunity to make Maisie and Dominic Foster pay.Let the show begin, I inwardly smirked.I gradually opened my eyes, pretending I just woke up.“She’s awake,” the doctor exclaimed. My eyes darted around the room, searching for Dominic Foster.I was instinctively afraid of him.I certainly didn’t want to go back to the dungeon; it was a nightmare. My body was covered with marks and scars telling the tale of what I had been through. That being said, I hated Domin
Dominic’s POVThe growing audacity Raina Ross was showing each day kept leaving me stunned.Ever since she came back, she had changed. She wasn’t greedy, selfish like she used to be. If it wasn’t for the face I kept seeing, I would have completely doubted her identity. She didn’t cling, make lavish dishes for me like she used to. She even stopped being a corrupt lawyer.I was growing fond of her, I didn’t want to, but I couldn’t control it.Maisie has been acting strange lately, or was she always like this? She couldn’t be; she saved my life 14 years ago.She was innocent, unlike the woman in front of me.I suddenly snorted at the thought that I could ever grow fond of Raina Ross. She was the daughter of a murderer, and I will stop at nothing to ruin her life.It seemed she was tired of living, as she slapped me.My eyes turned icy, cold, and I was filled with murderous intent. She locked eyes for a moment, all I could see was hatred, pure hatred. What right did she have to hate me?O
Layla’s POVMy body ached all over.I needed to get a good night’s rest.I don’t know why I had a bad feeling about tomorrow.I headed to my bedroom and took a refreshing bath, and went to bed.In the morning,A ray of sunshine shone through my face, I was mentally drained, and I couldn’t believe it was morning already. I could swear I had bags under my eyes. I dragged my feet towards the bathroom and freshen up, and I was heading towards the breakfast table when I met Maisie’s resentful gaze, and I stuck out my tongue at her.She gave me a “you’re not normal” kind of look.I was walking down the stairs when my legs suddenly slipped on something, and my butt was about to hit the ground hard. The expected pain never came. I opened my eyes to see Dominic Foster holding me in his arms.“You are careless, just make sure you don’t die in my house.” His voice rang through my ears.I felt my cheeks burn, and my face turned bright red as I dashed towards the breakfast table.“Raina, make me c
