KYLA'S POV

For another three days, I waited to hear word from Dr. Mendez, but nothing came. Bruce stopped by every day and made sure I got breakfast and dinner. Lunch was always harder for him since that was when he trained with the warriors, but he still tried when he could. He was kind to me, even when he thought I didn't notice the sadness in his eyes every time he looked at me sitting behind these bars.

"You don't have to feel bad for me," I said softly, watching him wipe down his blade while his gaze lingered on me longer than it should have. "I'll be fine."

He shook his head slowly. "How can you say that, Luna? You're the Alpha's prisoner. I don't like what he's doing to you, and I want you to know something." He finally met my eyes. "I don't believe a word of what everyone is saying about you."

My stomach tightened. "What are they saying?"

He hesitated, then sighed. "That... that you're some kind of witch. That your father, the former Beta, isn't your real father. They say your

LOWELL'S POVI have faced war, betrayal, and the slow rot of kingdoms collapsing from the inside out, yet very few things have ever made my blood burn the way it did listening to Alpha Tormund speak to his own Luna.I stayed hidden behind the curtain, my breathing controlled, my pulse steady, because that was what kings learned to do long before they learned how to rule. You observe first. You listen. You let a man reveal himself in his own words before you decide whether he deserves mercy or ruin. And Tormund revealed himself completely. He spoke to Kyla like she was refuse dragged in from the mud, like she was not marked, not bound, not carrying the future of his line inside her body, and even if the rumors were true, even if she had lied, schemed, or clawed her way into his life, there were lines an Alpha did not cross unless he was prepared to lose the respect of the land itself.I understood anger. I understood betrayal. I understood the humiliation of discovering you had been pl

  • THE BURNT FACE LUNA   49: Every Cruel Word

KYLA'S POV"What are you doing here, Lowell?" I demanded. The Lycan stood near the window like he owned the room. His broad shoulders were relaxed and his presence heavy enough to bend the air. His icy eyes lingered on me for a moment too long, and the thin robe suddenly felt indecent, like it was telling all my secrets for me."I came to visit a friend," he said evenly. Then his gaze dropped to my stomach, subtle but unmistakable. "But I can tell, Luna, that you're expecting. Interesting that the Alpha isn't here for his mate's doctor's appointment."I bristled instantly. "That is none of your business," I snapped, lifting my chin. "You should leave before the doctor comes back."One dark brow arched as if I'd amused him. He unfolded his arms, and that was when I noticed the envelope in his hand. An old parchment, sealed in wax. Before I could ask another question, the door opened."Kyla, where have you—" Dr. Mendez froze mid-sentence.The color drained from her face the moment she s

  • THE BURNT FACE LUNA   48: The Man From The War

KYLA'S POVThe shower room was small, cold, and tiled in dull gray, but it might as well have been a palace compared to the dungeon. Dr. Mendez helped me walk inside and then quietly shut the door behind her, giving me privacy but staying close enough that I wasn't completely alone."Take your time," she said softly. "I'll be right outside."The door clicked shut.I stood there for a moment, just breathing, because even standing upright felt like an accomplishment. My legs trembled as I reached for the wall, and when I turned the water on, the pipes screamed before hot water finally spilled from the showerhead. The steam hit my face, and that was all it took.I sank to the floor fully clothed and broke down. My sobs came fast and ugly, tearing out of my chest like they had been waiting for permission. I pressed my hands to my mouth, but it didn't help. The sound bounced off the tile and filled the room, and I cried harder because no one was telling me to shut up. No one was hurting m

  • THE BURNT FACE LUNA   46: Help Me

KYLA'S POVI was lying in a pool of my own mess.My body felt like it had forgotten how to be strong, and my limbs were heavy in a way that scared me. I hadn't eaten in... I didn't know how long. Time didn't move down here the way it did above ground. There were no windows, no light, no sounds that marked day from night. Just cold stone, damp air, and the slow decay of hope.I dragged my hand over my stomach, cradling it instinctively."It's okay, little one," I whispered, though my voice came out cracked and dry. "I won't let them kill us. I promise. I'll get us out of here." Even as I said it, I didn't know how.The sound of footsteps made my eyes flutter open, and pain shot through my skull as the cold air burned them. A shadow stretched across the bars, followed by laughter."Well look at that," a voice said with open mockery. "She's still alive."Another voice answered, quieter but tense. "Did you feed her?"There was a pause, and then a careless shrug I could hear in the tone.

  • THE BURNT FACE LUNA   45: Reunited

TORMUND'S POVAlbert was already pacing when I finished explaining how Kyla had sold Vivica to Cyrus like cattle...trading her own sister's life so she could claim the Luna position that never belonged to her. Yet when I forced myself to tell them the truth about what Cyrus had done to Vivica... when I said the words "he forced himself on her every night"... that was when the world snapped in half.Vivica broke instantly. She collapsed into her mother's arms and sobbed, her entire body shaking as Claudia held her like she was some fragile baby. Claudia stroked her hair and whispered words of affirmation as if she could erase the memories with the sound of her own voice.Albert, however, lost his damn mind.He let out a roar so loud the windows trembled. Then he shifted halfway. His claws burst through his fingertips and his wolf glowed behind his eyes as he tore through the sitting room."I'M GOING TO KILL THAT BITCH!" he roared, flipping the entire coffee table with one hand and send
