STELLA

My heart leaped to my throat when I saw the huge crowd of media waiting at the restaurant. Were they waiting for us? That made no sense…

“Did you announce that we were making a public appearance?” I asked in worry as I played with my fingers, and I could see his grip on the wheel tightened.

“I simply told my pal at the restaurant to book a reservation for me and my girl. He must have somehow tipped off the reporters about it. That fucking idiot. This is too many reporters for a public appearance.” He said as he cursed under his breath and I took a deep breath to stop myself from being so nervous.

It was all fake, it was just a show. I kept repeating that mantra in my head as I turned to look at him.

“We can handle this, right?” I asked softly, and he turned to look at me with concern written all over his face, but when he saw my relaxed expression, he finally relaxed too.

“Of course. It's show time.” He replied as he got out of the car and camera flashes immediately enveloped him, causing me to gulp in nervousness.

What if I made a mistake? What if I slipped and embarrassed him? I couldn't deny that I wasn't scared but I had to cover it up immediately when he pulled open the car door for me to step outside.

I took a deep breath and took his outstretched hand before stepping out of the car. The media immediately approached us as we walked towards the restaurant and I found myself leaning into him nervously.

He noticed and wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me closer so that he could shield me from the crazy reporters. At this point, I was wondering why a rich billionaire like him didn't have bodyguards to help out at times like this.

All he did was spend on ladies. How pathetic.

“Mr James, is the scandal between you and Miss Freya true?”

“Mr James, Miss Freya admitted to being your fuck mate. What do you have to say about this?”

“Mr James, is this your new girlfriend?”

“The public is curious about who's lying and telling the truth. Mr James, what's your take?”

The questions kept flowing in as we walked past the reporters and I fought the urge to say something stupid to them. Just then, James stopped and shielded me from the reporters before turning to them.

“The scandal is all a lie. We all know how crazy AI is these days. They can make anything look real. Freya and I have nothing with each other. Why will I cheat on my girlfriend? I might not look like it, but I'm faithful to my girlfriend.” He explained and I fought the urge to scoff at his righteous words.

Faithful, my foot.

“Mr James, there has been no appearance of your so-called girlfriend until this scandal. How can we be sure this is not a plan to cover up the scandal?” The reporter asked again and I narrowed my eyes at him, wondering how he had seen through our facade.

James' hand tightened on mine and I let out a sigh of despair. Why did I even agree to this mad deal?

“Everyone can keep their speculations to themselves, but my girlfriend and I love each other. Oh, and I will be proposing soon. Wish me luck!” He said with a wink and I turned to look at him in surprise at how he had effortlessly made the reporters believe him.

Cameras continued clicking even as we entered the restaurant and I finally let out a sigh of relief when we were away from their loud noises. I was beginning to regret agreeing to this deal.

“You good?” He asked as he drew out the chair for me to sit and I let out a sigh of despair before sitting down.

“Is it too late to back out of this? I already have a headache and it's just the first day. If this is what I have to deal with just to be your pretend girlfriend, then I'm quitting this instant.” I replied as I gently rubbed my temples with my fingers but I suddenly jolted when he pulled my chair closer to his and started to rub them for me instead.

“We already started this, we can't stop here now. It's your job to help me out of every trouble I get into right? I'll pay you double— no, triple of your salary. Just don't give up on us yet.” He said softly as his hands continued to massage my temples and I let out a sigh before closing my eyes.

Whatever he did with his fingers felt so good. I couldn't help but imagine how good it would feel if he stroked me down there—

“Is it hot? Why's your face so red?” He asked in concern, and my eyes widened when I realized the lewd things I was thinking about as I pulled away from him.

Why was I thinking of letting him do things to me?

“Yeah, I suddenly feel very uncomfortable and I don't want to have dinner anymore. Would it be okay if we leave? I don't like it here. Everyone is literally staring at us like we're movie stars.” I replied, telling him half the truth and leaving out the fact that just staring at him had my insides clenching with need.

“Alright then. I'm sorry I made you this uncomfortable.” He said as he stood up and took my hand and I was about to tell him it was fine when I noticed that the reporters were rushing their way in.

“James, we have to leave right now,” I said in urgency as I grabbed my purse, but before I could move two steps, they already barged into the restaurant and were heading towards us like prey after their predator.

STELLAI kept pacing the living room back and forth, back and forth for about an hour now, chewing on my nails. My thoughts went back to Sheila. No matter how many times I try to tell myself she’s a grown adult, she could make her own decisions herself. It didn’t stop the sick feeling in my stomach. Logan wasn’t good for her. She was far too better for trash like him.But how was I going to fix this without losing her completely? Because she wasn’t even talking to me anymore.Oh God. I ran a hand through my messy hair.James sat across the couch, switching from one cooking channel to another. He wasn’t even watching it. For a moment I saw a smirk on his face.“You know, baby,” he started, “you’re going to wear a hole into the floor if you keep pacing like that, Stell.”I shot him a look. “You know I can’t help it. She’s my best friend. I can’t just sit back and watch her throw herself into a disaster. She has saved me so many times in the past this was my chance to pay her back.”He a

JAMES “Stella... please baby, look at me. I’m sorry.”She didn’t turn. Her arms were crossed over her chest as she watched the snow fall through the window. It’s been three days. She stopped sleeping in our room, she stopped talking to me. All my attempts at apologizing had failed. God, how could I have been so stupid?“I’m sorry, Stella,” I said, my voice low, rough. “I never should have spoken to you like that. Stella, you mean the world to me.” My voice cracked. “And I was never angry at you, I swear I wasn’t.”Finally, she turned to face me. Her face had no warmth in it, her eyes icy cold. No softness, just cold quiet and disappointment.God, it tore me apart.“I wasn’t mad because you had coffee with your ex,” I said quickly, rushing the words before she decided to walk away. “I don’t care about him. I trust you, Stella, I trust you more than anyone. That’s not what this is about.”But still, she said nothing. She just stood there, no words. She completely shut me out, and this

BRADThe city looked different on snowy nights. There were no stars in the sky just snow falling endlessly. I leaned closer to the glass, my hands in my pockets, my reflection staring back at me: sharp, calm. But right now I was far from calm. I was calculating.People always say every villain has an origin story. Maybe that's true, but I've never really considered myself a villain. No I actually see myself as the hero of this story. Most villains do what they do out of spite and anger, but not me. I do what I do because it's a necessary evil. And James… my dearest cousin James. If only he knew.If only he could see all the strings I've been pulling all along: the jobs, the threats, the man he had to kill in Russia it was all me. I was the puppeteer and my dear cousin James was the puppet. Every move, every moment of paranoia he was in now it was all thanks to me. I couldn't help but smile. The irony was that he still trusts me. He still believes I'm just the cheeky cousin who takes c

STELLAThe steam from my untouched cappuccino curled out of the cup and into the air, soft and fleeting as I sat at my usual spot by the window, trying to concentrate on people that passed by but it wasn’t working. My fingers tapped restlessly against the cup. The noise of the coffee shop was a little distracting, but it could only do so much to help with my anxiety. When the doors opened, I didn’t turn around to look, but I knew he was the one who walked in. My heart raced, and I tried to steady myself, but it felt like my body remembered him more than my mind did.Zade.He carried himself with quiet confidence. He looked like the boy I once knew, but now carved into a man. His blue eyes found mine, and I gripped my cup tighter like I was about to break it.“Thank you,” he said as he took a seat on the chair in front of me, his voice calm and genuine. “For agreeing to meet me.”I lifted my chin, composing myself before I spoke. “Don’t thank me, Zade. Please don’t. I’m only here for o

STELLABy the time I got home, it felt like my chest had been ripped out. I just kept moving it felt like even the air could throw me off balance. Sheila’s words haunted me; she looked so angry, and I wished that was the worst of it. But no Zade had to reappear out of nowhere.I didn’t even realize I was crying until I pushed open the door and found James on his laptop, the firelight flickering against his sharp features. The moment his eyes met mine, all the walls I’d been holding up came crashing down and he rushed to my side.“Stella?” His voice carried both worry and surprise as I dropped the bags carelessly on the floor and rushed straight into his arms. The moment he wrapped me in his embrace, I broke, sobbing uncontrollably, hot tears soaking his shirt as I buried my head in his chest. His scent wrapped around me like a warm blanket, his hold steadied me, and when I finally lifted my head to look at him, he couldn’t hide his concern.“Hey… baby, what’s wrong?” he whispered, his

STELLAThe mall was buzzing with Christmas spirit. Everyone was dressed in colorful sweaters, bright lights strung across the ceiling, holiday music filling the air. I couldn’t help but echo it underneath my breath as shoppers came in and out with their arms filled with bags. Damn, it felt like the entire city was here.Sheila and I walked side by side, her heels clicking on the polished floor, her eyes scanning me every second as if she was searching for something—or waiting for something to happen.“Stella, are you sure you’re okay?” she asked for the hundredth time. “You were in the hospital not long ago. I was there, you know. I came to see you.”I shifted the shopping bags up my arm and gave her a small smile. “I know, Sheila. Brad told me, and I’m really sorry I wasn’t awake to see you. But I’m fine now really, I am. Just a little sore, but it’s nothing I can’t handle.”Sheila just watched me like she didn’t fully believe what I was saying, but eventually she sighed and looped h
