Layla's POV

For all I knew, no one alive still called nor referred to me by that name.

I whispered his name, "Viktor," then I nudged him gently . My pulse tripped, then he stirred and woke up.

He blinked, "what's wrong?"

"You... You called me Ava. How did you know that name?"

His face went hard suddenly, Viktor sat up abruptly and the sheets fell off his waist. "What the hell are you talking about?"

"I said, you called me Ava in your sleep." I repeated and my throat tightened.

"Enough!" He barked.

The sharpness of his voice struck my spine.

Viktor had never ever raised his voice at me. Not even close.

He jerked from the bed. He reached for his robe and walked out of the room in a movement that was both jerky and uncontrolled . Nothing like the man I knew.

"Viktor..." I called out.

"Jesus christ, Layla it's the middle of the night. Normal people sleep." He went across the room and grabbed a bottle of bourbon from our suite's mini bar. I watched him yanking the Cork free with his tee

Third person’s POV"You tell me," Caleb said evenly.Layla's breath hitched. "You recorded this?" She gasped, her voice trembled in disbelief. "You actually recorded every--- you--- God Caleb, what kind of pervert are you ?""Stop," he said quickly. "Oh God! I didn't record that.""But somehow it's in your phone. Who did that?""My ex," he replied coldly. "She planted a camera in my bedroom. For her own twisted reasons. I found out long ago."Layla's brows furrowed. "You found out and...?""Oh, I---I configured the feed to send to me directly." He said. His eyes darkened. "While she thinks she's spying on me I make sure she sees exactly what I want her to see.""Nonsense!" Layla shook her head. "This is outright insanity. You expect me to believe this cooked shit you're serving right now?""You can believe whatever you want," Caleb said. "But one thing is clear, that video is a clear enough proof for both of us to see what happened and what did not that night."Layla's throat tighte

Third person’s POVCaleb took the earliest flight back to Florence the next morning. All through the night, he barely slept. The thoughts refused to let him rest. His mind kept taking him back to Naomi's slip of the tongue. He ordered his driver to take him straight to Ardenti immediately he landed in Florence. He paid no attention to the security he just strode in swiftly.Inside , Layla's secretary jumped slightly at his sudden appearance. "Sir-- Mr. Standloff--- she's in but---""I'll see her." Caleb said firmly without waiting for permission. When Caleb walked towards Layla's office, she was on the phone discussing some contract deals with her supplier while her intercom buzzed.. "Ma'am," her secretary's voice came through. "Mr Standloff is here to see you. He's already there. I tried to stop him."Layla dropped the call. Her gaze flickered down to her reflection on the polished glass table, her fitted dress wasn't doing a good job at hiding what had slowly begun to show. She pr

Third person’s POV. Caleb’s eyes weren't on the guests or on the woman by his side. They were fixed on Layla. He watched her every move religiously. But there was something strange about Layla that night, even when Caleb’s eyes locked with hers, she didn't flinch. Maybe it was jealousy he was searching for, but he saw none.Layla walked towards him finally. Her smile didn't waver the least. "Caleb." She greeted smoothly, "I see you made it. Thank you for coming.""I wouldn't miss it for anything." He replied but his tone fell flat when Layla's eyes shifted politely towards the woman standing beside him."Miss Maxine," Layla extended her hand. "It's a pleasure."Miss Maxine was the woman beside Caleb. One who had a vision of sharp glamour and scandalous reputation. She flashed a charming smile. "Miss Ardenti. I've heard quite a lot about you.""Call me Ava. Ava Woods." Layla corrected. "And I hope what you've heard about me are only good things," She added and smiled with an imp

Layla's POV Inside, staff lined the hallway modestly dressed with perfect poise. As I entered, they bowed their heads respectfully and murmured, "Good morning, Ma'am." And "welcome back." Naomi's eyes darted from face to face. She whispered. "Girl... they're treating you like royalty. What's going on?" I exhaled calmly. "The company belongs to Caleb. He and I came here recently, and the staff probably assumed I was his wife." "His wife?" Naomi's expression dropped. I shrugged with feign indifference. "People see what they want to see." Naomi shook her head and snapped back immediately with half amusement and half bewilderment. "Layla, I swear your life just gets stranger by the day." I took her as we toured the building from the marketing suites to the central reporting department. Screens tracked daily sales from all the cafés across Europe. Numbers danced on the monitors. Staff murmured updates like soldiers reporting to the queen. "I don't see how all these concern

Third person POVJulian stood still with infuriating calm "History has a way of repeating itself, Viktor. You might hate me, but when your enemies close in, remember who offered his hands first."Viktor didn't reply. The door slammed behind Julian leaving the room with a heavy silence. The next morning, headlines confirmed what Julian had hindered Viktor. His stocks had plummeted again. The cruel realisation hit him, his Empire was slipping through his fingers.---Layla's POVBack in Europe.Sunlight streamed across the balcony of my house. Naomi leaned against the railing, sipping coffee as I sat on the couch, sorting through folders."So," Naomi began, her eyes twinkling. "Are you finally going to tell me how you are pulling all these off overnight? Is it some magic? I mean, new staff, money? You're giving out some modern-day fairy godmother vibes."I smiled faintly, though my heart stirred uneasily. Then Caleb’s words echoed in my memory. 'Trust no one.'I really didn't know who

  • THE CEO’S RUTHLESS COMMITMENT (hidden obsession)   Chapter 44: The weight of power ..

Layla’s POVI let the silence linger after Naomi's voice. I made sure the weight of my voice settled well then I asked. "Does anyone have any objections?"They shook their heads slowly. Then I said in a steady, calm but authoritative voice. "You are all dismissed."Naomi leaned slightly towards me. "And Enzo?"I gave her a look. "Enzo is smart. I don't need to say anything to him."When I went upstairs I could still feel the tension in the house shifting like wind changing direction. I picked up my phone and typed a message to Caleb, my fingers trembled slightly."I'm ready now."The morning after, I visited Caleb in the private office he directed me to. Sunlight spilled through the glass walls, stretching across the polished table where mountains or papers waited. I took it poised, my signature pen in hand. My reflection glinted off the smooth surface. Caleb wasn't seated, he stood across from me with his eyes fixed on the documents with calm precision."I did the paper work overni
