Layla's POV

For all I knew, no one alive still called nor referred to me by that name.

I whispered his name, "Viktor," then I nudged him gently . My pulse tripped, then he stirred and woke up.

He blinked, "what's wrong?"

"You... You called me Ava. How did you know that name?"

His face went hard suddenly, Viktor sat up abruptly and the sheets fell off his waist. "What the hell are you talking about?"

"I said, you called me Ava in your sleep." I repeated and my throat tightened.

"Enough!" He barked.

The sharpness of his voice struck my spine.

Viktor had never ever raised his voice at me. Not even close.

He jerked from the bed. He reached for his robe and walked out of the room in a movement that was both jerky and uncontrolled . Nothing like the man I knew.

"Viktor..." I called out.

"Jesus christ, Layla it's the middle of the night. Normal people sleep." He went across the room and grabbed a bottle of bourbon from our suite's mini bar. I watched him yanking the Cork free with his tee

  • THE CEO’S RUTHLESS COMMITMENT (hidden obsession)   Chapter 7: A sight to sore eyes

Layla’S POVI looked at Viktor and his eyes were as soft as silk. His entire face looked transformed. There was no single trace of anger or sharp edges of the man who frightened me the previous night.I saw remorse. A one that showed off his boyishness. For a moment, I wondered what exactly he was apologising for.He stepped forward to me. "Layla, baby," he slid his hands into mine and guided me into the room from the doorway like I was too fragile to do it myself. He pushed the chair slowly and ushered me in. "I promise you today, I'll never raise my voice ever at you again.I heard my heart quivering. I lost my resolve under the tenderness of his voice. Every piece of anger in me went away like that. Then I whispered,"Viktor..." struggling to finish my thoughts. He pressed a kiss on my forehead.Sweetness took over the remaining part of the night. Soft laughter and many whispered apologies followed. Viktor held me as though I was his anchor in a storm and just like that, the memo

Slowly, Victor became a mighty force of nature in my life. Each passing day he swept in line a storm I didn't know I needed. He spared no expense: Vacation in sun-drenched cities, quiet romantic nights in the penthouse suites. Roof top views at night, overlooking the glittering skyline , profound intimate moments that put the world to a pause Each time he closed in.One day during our intimate hours I said to him, It almost feels like the world stopped when you came into my life... you make everything so easy. You hear me even when I don't speak, you just know what to do and when ... and how. How do you do it?I saw his eyes soften as a new born. A beautiful warmth swept across his usual intensity. Because I pay attention. I notice the things that matter. I pay attention to people who matter to me. What are those things you have noticed from attention?I raised my eyebrow, asking teasingly.Your favourite food for instance." He said with a brief pause then he leaned closer and continu

Viktor instructed I sell the house and get my belongings so I went to pay my last visit.I unzipped the last suitcase with a shaky tug of bidding farewell to a place I once called home. Five years of memories fading away in the shortest span of time.Admist it all was an innate excitement of moving into Viktor’s mansion. A reality that still felt like a dream, or perhaps a nightmare. Not sure yet.A loud knock on my door startled me. I was not expecting anyone.I moved swiftly to check who it was. I had barely creaked the door open when Naomi swept in like breeze. Her heels clicked against the floor."Well, well, well," Naomi said crossing her arms darting her eyes across my luggage. "After my warnings Layla, your agreed to marrying another man when the ink on your divorce papers is not even dry.""Oh," I blinked and laughed. But I told you I'd be taking the opposite of your advice. Why are you being dramatic?""Dramatic?I wasn't in the mood for her sermon this time so I brushed her

Viktor left me staring at the contract. My fingers were too frozen to flip past the first page. What would ‘the’ Viktor Douglas want from a girl like me? A girl without anything tied to her name? The conflicting thought lingered a while until I decided to steer to the brighter side. It was promising and clearly the only thing I could do at the moment. If anything, he didn't seem as cruel as the papers painted him. What's the worst that could happen? But I knew better than judging a man's character by a few displays of respect in a single evening yet it didn’t seem like I had another choice now.I decided I needed to hear a third voice, maybe to hear something convincing. So I dialed Naomi. The moment my best friend's voice came through, my composure cracked.Layla.. you're not calling to cry about that slimeball of a husband right?Relax Naomi... it's not Julian. It's something else.Better. So what now? Did Chloe fall down a flight of stairs? That cracked me up real good. So good t

Layla's POVWhen I walked into the office the next morning, everywhere was buzzing but the chatter grew louder when I reached my desk and my gaze caught another bouquet. This time it was fresh roses that sent the fragrance flooding the entire space. Is it some sort of pity flowers? Was one of the whispers that fell in my ears. I didn't give them the satisfaction of an even glance as I slid into my chair. Again, no card just like before. Then my eyes fell on the envelope on the desk, apparently, it was laid before the roses arrived. I picked it up with no hesitation though my heart hammered. I tore it open immediately and scanned through the words. My chest hurt as I see the title ‘Termination of Employment’"No..." I whispered as my body grew weak.My vision blurred with tears, my heart burned with hurt as tears rolled freely.I had begun accepting my fate with Julian and Chloe, I was learning to live everyday with the humiliation but this was the height of it.I couldn't live w
