It's official!

Wendy sat in her little seat and wondered how her plain old simple life had become unrecognisable.

She wasn't just Miss Sebastian, the bookkeeper. She had been named a whore and a schemer.

She was married. Suddenly married. To a man she barely knew. She only saw on billboards and glossy magazines. She didn't even have a ring. Now there was this talk of a honeymoon.

'Apparently, he has seen some of the pictures and he-' Barbara started to explain.

'Wants more?' Louis cut in.

'I was going to say something else. But yeah, he wants more pictures as well.'

'So he's using me? He intends to use my marriage to get people's votes?'

'Fake marriage' Barbara corrected. 'You wouldn't blame him. People are going crazy over the pictures already released. It's good publicity. You ruined his chance of getting elected six years ago and so-'

'And so I'll never hear the end of it for the rest of my life? I was set up for fuck sake. Because of six years ago, he believes he can decide what I'll do in my marriage?'

'Fake marriage, Louis. You keep leaving out the fake part of the whole thing.'

Louis sighed.

'There's no way I would have a honeymoon with a whore who tried to set me up.'

Now this was it. Wendy sat up in her chair, like her buttocks had just been set on fire. 'Call me a whore one more time and I'm out of this stupid arrangement.'

Louis laughed. 'That's not how it works, baby. You signed a contract.'

'To hell with the stupid piece of paper. You sit there throwing names at me when you were the one that hired a whore for the night. How are you any different from me?

You talk about a honeymoon vacation with me like it's a death sentence when few hours ago, you were all in my face begging me to fuck you. How hypocritical.'

'I didn't beg you.' Louis countered.

'Throw that word in my face one more time.' She threatened.

'Louis calm down. It's all fake. You just go for the vacation, get the pictures and you're back.' Barbara intervened.

'Then there's no way I'm going on letting anyone fund my honeymoon, much less my father. I'm not sure I'll endure him using it to blackmail me for the rest of my life. Rhoda's issue has hung over my head for ages.'

'You'll reject his offer?' Barbara asked.

'No. You'll reject it. Tell him we've left to my private island. If it's the pictures he needs, I'll mail you some.'

Now, call the chopper. We will leave in a couple of hours.' He murmured. It was obvious his mood had gone sour.

'Excuse me.' Wendy interrupted. 'You guys understand that I work, right?'

'Of course. The same one that got us all here now.' Barbara spat.

'I work as a librarian.' It was a small white lie but there was no way she was telling these two that she only dusted and arranged books in the library for a few dollars.

Louis sat there, totally disinterested in the whole conversation.

'Oh, you have a side job. Or is the prostitution thing the side job?' Barbara mocked.

'Well, that's not the point. Now, the issue is that I am employed somewhere. I can't just pack my bags on some fake honeymoon for silly pictures for the tabloids.'

The bad-tempered Tracy was probably still blowing up her phone right now. She would be obviously more angry now her fake wedding pictures were everywhere.

'So you don't want the honeymoon or you want me to pay for the time you'll be away from this job?' Louis asked.

'Gold digger' Barbara added. Wendy wondered if she had previously offended the woman. The woman was so bitter.

'I don't know.' She really didn't know what she wanted.

'Look, young lady, you're part of this problem. You'll have to stick around till this problem is solved. As you can see, I'll also very angry at this arrangement, but what choice do we have.

My father needs pictures. He thinks this is real and we have to act the part. If you want a salary, I'll pay you more till we get the divorce.'

'I will not leave my job.'

' Fine. I'll pay for your time away during the honeymoon. Put a call across. Are we okay?'

She didn't say anything and Barbara flipped her hair dramatically.

'Of course. It's okay. The girl is fucking greedy.' She said.

'Bee, you've called the chopper?'

'I will do. Right now.' Barbara answered.

'Now that is taken care of, I have something for you.' He pulled out a little box from his pocket and tossed it. Before the little box got to her, she knew what it was. Her ring.

She opened her the box and her mouth fell open.

'You didn't tell me you were giving her your mum's ring?' Barbara sounded irritated.

It was his mum's ring? Her mouth dropped lower.

'No, I can't give- can't give her my mum's ring. I got something else. It would be suspicious if she don't have a ring. I have mine as well.' He pulled out an identical box as well, flashed it briefly and tucked it back into his pocket.

The fact that he didn't give her his mother's ring shook her a little but she couldn't blame the man. Who would give something that personal to a total stranger?

She looked at the ring again and the large diamond on it. She picked it up.

'It's beautiful.' She beamed.

'You can't try hiding your greed? Even a little?' Barbara said.

'It's just so beautiful.' Wendy did not even notice the bitter woman.

She slipped the ring into her finger and her smile widened. The course of her life had really changed so much in less than twenty hours. The ring was big.

'There's something I need to do now. I need to see my parents.' Wendy announced.
