It was all an act. Her heart couldn't stop beating painfully, nor did she see herself strong enough to hold back the tears which threatened to trickle down her cheeks.

Thankfully, she was strong enough to stifle the tears a bit until she got out of the restaurant.

She hurried across the parking lot, one hand pressed over her mouth as she tried so hard to keep herself from breaking down.

Slowly, the tears trickled down, and she held on to her bag tightly like her life depended on it.

Hailey Everywhere suddenly went quiet for a second. The moment the gun went off, it felt like the world had suddenly been put to a stop.I quickly turned to look at my brother. For safety purposes, I needed to be sure In order to save him quickly if there was a need for it."Adrian," I called out to him, and my hands went over to his body, searching for myself to be sure he had not been shot."It's okay, Hailey. He didn't fire the shots. It was the police." His statement made me stop and I quickly turned back at Marco.Adrian was right. His hands were already behind his back, probably handcuffed. I watched as one of the officers picked up his gun on the floor with her hands protected with a hand glove.Marco kept struggling to set himself free despite being handcuffed. Although, his eyes didn't leave me. I could see the blazing anger in it. His face had coiled up in a thick frown, and they reddened even more."Mr Marco, you're under arrest for attempted murder and -" the officer bega

Hailey "What are you doing here? How did you get out of prison?" I asked, feigning surprise."You expect me to still be in prison?" He scoffed, and began to move closer until he was close enough to Jaxon. His eyes watered down on Jaxon for a moment, the excitement dissipating and being replaced by a thick frown. Finally, he raised his head back up to look at me. And pulled off his face cap. I swallowed hard, my heart beating uncontrollably fast. What was he going to do next? What do I do now? I wondered. The fear that clogged my heart was beginning to make me loose on the plan."I knew I had to get out of prison to make him pay." He began to speak again. And I knew the 'him' was Jaxon."One way or the other, the both of you had to pay for the death of my brother."“Was that why you shot him?" I pressed further with my question. After all, the aim of all this was not just to get him locked up. A confession was also needed by him.“I should have shot you too." He spat irritably with th

Hailey "Are you sure this is a good plan? I really am not in support of this." Adrian couldn't stop talking. "Of course you're not supposed to be in support of this. It is a risk we have to take." I said, not sparing him a glance. I was already too determined to let his words get to me and I would think of giving up. "What I don't understand is why you have to think you're the one who should be here when he comes. I'm his goddamn best friend. I should be the one doing this, not you." He half yelled. "But I'm the one who he wants." I was forced to take a look back at him. His lips parted slightly and I knew he wanted to say something. But of course he was smart enough to see how stubborn I was that he didn't go further. We both turned back at Jaxon who was still lying on the bed, drips plugged into him. He looked pale and lifeless, filling my heart with more fear. The doctors had no choice but to let us in after the police had asked for their cooperation in solving the poss

Hailey “What if the police do not find him?” I turned to face Adrian, asking the same question I had asked over five hours ago.Adrian's first response was a deep sigh that showed that he was already tired of repeating the same words over and over again. Nevertheless, there was nothing I could do. I couldn't help it. I needed firm assurance. Perhaps, something strong enough to hold on to. “I think it would have been better if you had listened to me and gone to work today. Starting your Monday deeply rooted in worries is not good. I'm pretty sure Jaxon wouldn't want that for you.” Adrian finally opened up to speak. “You're not Jaxon. You can't know that. And besides, do you really think I would be able to stay focused at work if I had gone?” I questioned him, and resumed pacing up and about the waiting room.I understand that as the only family I had left, Adrian was terribly worried for me. But like I said before, I couldn't help it. I was even more worried about Jaxon than myself

Hailey."Jaxon please. Jaxon wake up." The tears couldn't leave my eyes as I kept walking with the nurses who had transported him from the ambulance on the stretcher, driving him into the hospital.Aiden was also by my side, running with me to whatever ward the nurses were taking him to."I'm sorry madam.” I was stopped by one of the nurses when they eventually got to the emergency room. She held me down by my arms even if I struggled to move past her."No. Don't stop me. Please, he needs me. I need to go with him." I pleaded, the tears trickling freely down my cheeks."I'm sorry but you can't go in with us. You'll have to wait in the waiting room.” She said again, giving a proper explanation but not a reason that sounded reasonable enough to me."Jaxon!" I yelled out, crying as I fell to the ground. The nurse left me and joined the others in the emergency room. The curtains were closed immediately and the electric board at the door signified “in operation.”“Mummy." Aiden walked over

Hailey My eyes widened, I felt my heart almost jump out of my ribcage. I wanted to scream but I couldn't. I tried to blink my eyes, hoping it was all a dream but even that was impossible. What just happened? No. I can't be him. It definitely wasn't him. That wasn't his blood. I kept saying to myself. I kept forcing myself to believe. Slowly, I found myself taking the steps towards him. I could feel the movement of people around me. But I've suddenly gotten lost in reality that all I had to focus on was him. What were they saying? What could they do? None of that mattered now. I guess none of it did. All that mattered was it all being a dream. ********** It turned out that I wasn't dreaming because the more I kept staring, my entire being suddenly frozen and unable to move, Jaxon kept taking further steps towards him. It was really him. He was dressed in his usual jeans and a simple red polo with a simple design but I was sure it cost him over millions. Just as my e
