Kael’s POV

Rage is a quiet thing, when it’s cold enough. It doesn’t roar, it seethes.

As I walked away from Elara’s room, I felt it coil around my spine like a serpent, tight, calculated and dangerous.

Liora.

Her name had been on my list for a while, too smug, too perfect but now, Elara’s words confirmed it. Two nights before the mission, Liora had visited her quarters unannounced. It could’ve been innocent but nothing about this situation was innocent.

“Get me Jack and Milo,” I barked as I reached the corridor, and a nearby guard scrambled to obey.

I stalked down the west wing, toward the war room. I didn’t want to cause a scene in the infirmary, not with Elara still healing but the second I had what I needed, I would drag Liora into the light and rip her lies apart in front of everyone.

She had picked the wrong target.

Jack and Milo arrived within minutes, breathless from running.

“Alpha?” Jack asked, eyeing the tight set of my jaw.

“Where is Liora right now?”

Milo blinked, caught o

  • THE COLD WOLF'S MATE    CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN

Liora’s POVDarkness had a sound. It whispered, It breathed. It pressed in like a second skin, tightening with every passing hour. The cell I was thrown into was built for wolves who’d lost control with iron-lined walls, wolfsbane laced chains, no windows. The only thing I could hear was the dripping of water somewhere in the corner, and the lingering echo of Kael’s fury. But I wasn’t panicking, not really because I hadn’t lost. Not yet.I lay on the narrow cot, arms folded beneath my head, staring at the ceiling. The truth serum had worked—sort of. I’d spoken but not everything I said was real. They thought they had the truth. That was the key.Because in war, perception was just as powerful as reality.I breathed in slowly, my fingers curled into the edge of the mattress. I’d rehearsed it in my mind a thousand times, what I’d say if caught. I hadn’t expected it to happen this soon, but Nika had warned me it could. I hadn’t planned for Kael to react this fast and Elara… the fragile l

  • THE COLD WOLF'S MATE    CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE

Elara’s POVThe world was a blur of sounds and shadows, stitched together by fear and fever. I couldn’t tell what was real anymore. One moment I was falling, the next I was floating. Hands reached for me in the dark, faces I knew twisted into monsters and then—Kael. His voice cut through the chaos like a lifeline. Now, all I felt was exhaustion. My body was heavy, like it had been wrung out and discarded. I knew I was safe—I knew it—but my mind wouldn’t let go of the images.I saw the ropes, felt the screams. A faceless figure whispering in my ear, You’re never getting out of this. But Kael’s voice had dragged me back.I woke up again, not sure how long it had been. The infirmary was quiet except for the occasional soft beep of a monitor nearby. The air smelled too clean—like something fake trying to mask rot. It made me nauseous.I turned my head and winced. My muscles protested, stiff and sore, like I’d run a marathon while being beaten with sticks. Then I saw her—someone was sittin

  • THE COLD WOLF'S MATE    CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR

Kael’s POVThe scent of antiseptic clung to the infirmary walls like a second skin—too sharp, too clean, trying too hard to erase what had already soaked into the place: the blood, pain, fear.As I paced in front of Elara’s room, my jaw clenched so tight it ached. Every time I passed the door, I glanced inside through the glass panel. She was still there, curled on the bed like she was trying to disappear into the sheets.A nurse emerged quietly, her head bowed. “Doctor Storm will see you now, Alpha.”I nodded and followed her down the corridor, trying to drown the rising storm inside me. I needed answers—not guesses, not possibilities.I needed the truth.Doctor Storm was waiting in his office, which looked more like a war strategist’s den than a healer’s space. There were maps of the body on one side of the wall, weapon injuries sketched and labeled on another. He stood as I entered, tall and lean, his silver hair flowing down, glasses perched low on his nose.I had known Storm sinc

  • THE COLD WOLF'S MATE    CHAPTER FORTY-THREE

Elara’s POVThe cold night air stung my face as the man slammed the car door shut and strode toward the shadow in the alley. My heart was still thrumming from the near-collision, my grip white-knuckled on the seatbelt. He moved like he had done this a hundred times—fast, precise, predatory. I strained to hear over the pounding in my ears, but the world beyond the windshield seemed muted, like a storm brewing just out of sight. The shadowy figure stepped forward—tall and broad-shouldered, moving with an unsettling confidence.I pressed a palm against the window, half ready to scream for him to get back in the car, half desperate to know what was about to happen. The two men faced each other in the glow of a flickering streetlamp.“You’re making a mistake,” the stranger said, his voice so deep it almost vibrated in my bones. The man who had dragged me out of the hospital tilted his head slightly, like he was studying prey. “She’s not going back with you.”“She’s not yours to take.”They

  • THE COLD WOLF'S MATE    CHAPTER FORTY-TWO

Elara’s POVMy breath came in ragged gasps as the man half-dragged, half-supported me through the narrow hallways of the hospital. The dark, oppressive silence of the night seemed to press in on me from all sides, making the quiet footsteps echo louder with every passing second.“Who the heck are you?” I asked, my mind still foggy from the drugs, but the panic was starting to rise in my chest. The man’s grip was strong, his movements calculated—like someone used to being in control of a situation.“Not important,” he said, his voice clipped, cutting off any further questions. His steps were steady, as if he didn’t fear being caught. As if he was always one step ahead of the game.I was being pulled along with no idea where I was going, but I couldn’t afford to hesitate—not now. I didn’t know what was going on or who was chasing me, but I did know that something was very wrong. They had drugged me, taken me, and now—now someone else was trying to make sure I didn’t get caught. The man
