CHAPTER 49 - CHECKMATE

*HERON’S POV*

“Phoebe, my love, please escort our guest to us.” I hear my father say through the mind-link and Mom opens the door.

I watched the two other people that enter behind her. Dad goes back to sit in his huge black chair, pulling Mom into his lap.

“This is my son Heron.” He introduced me to the man and young lady. “Have a seat.”

The older man, who was closer to Dad’s age, walked in, upright and stiff. His oblong face appeared rather nervous as I studied everything about him. He had loose blonde hair, deep-set green eyes below his bushy eyebrows, a hawk nose, and an anchor beard on top of a compact body.

No doubt that the young lady was his daughter. They sat beside each other, taking the chairs to my right.

Dad motions to them, “Heron, these are Alpha Henley Glasbury from CasterMoon Pack and his daughter Varla.”

Politely, I nodded towards them with a modified expression. It appeared that Dad was trying to choose his words carefully, knowing that I was a ticking time bomb
