Ver maisRuth's POV
My name is Ruth Macaulay but for some reasons I don’t like been called Ruth because I was named after my grandmother who never lived a well emulative life. I live all my life in the shadow pack with my parent, for no reason was I not loved in the pack sometimes I feel I had a spell or curse on me. But the only person who showed me love as a child was my mother.
The hatred increased when I shifted into my wolf for the first time, I killed Greg Usher, Alpha Vincent's uncle who has been taking advantage of me since little. Greg Usher is a psychopath but it baffles me that everyone seems to be adamant about his condition. Many children my age has been molested several times, no parent dares complain because he is the most powerful ex alpha. But down within me I didn’t regret killing him because I defeated my worst night mare and saved a lot of girls my age.
Ever since his death I found no peace in the pack, I was more like a maid, maltreated and not cared for, I attend to everybody's needs.
No one belief my part of story when I said, it was only a self-defence. His wife Salena, made my life a living hell she denied all my accusations and claimed her husband has pure love for children and he would never do such thing.
My mum was the only person who believed me but she has no power to stop them from maltreating me, my dad’s hatred grows worse when they were demoted them from Gemma to omega who are seen as the least in the pack, my daddy almost disowned me as child but my mum had to plead. I was supposed to be banish from the pack but my mum pleaded on my behalf, saying It was my first shift and I lost control of myself. Nothing seems to be interesting in the pack I feel invisible.
One certain morning, I tried getting up from my old mattress but I felt a sharp pain on my back, it’s as a result of all the beating and stress I have gone through the past few days. I managed to stand up so I can quickly attend to my morning chores.
Walking down to Salena’s room, she was sitting on her dressing stood applying some makeup on her face preparing to go out, she yelled at me, “you bitch, I asked you to be here as early as possible”. She threw a mug at me but I dodged it. She asked me clean up the mess and wash all her dirty clothes. I was still on the floor trying to pick up the pieces, when I had Salena footsteps approached me and she kicked my empty stomach, and I grunt, at that point I wished I could fight back, I managed to stand up on my feet. She yelled again, “make sure my clothes are washed without no stain.” I quickly go to the omega’s bathroom to wash her clothes, I begin to cry, why is my life so miserable, when will I find my mate, when will I leave this pack. I know Salena never loved me even before her husband dismiss but his death only makes things worst.
Immediately I rounded up with Salena chores. I quickly go to the kitchen so as to fix breakfast with some other omegas, I personally prepared a full English breakfast for every one why the rest omegas helped me with the dishes. In the pack house we are over two hundred people living there who has luxurious suites with their love ones, while others who are unmated have designer rooms. But now my parent stays in the old rooms with bad furniture since their demotion.
Alpha Vincent walked in while I started serving at the dinning, he is such an attractive young man, my heart skipped when I sight him I have a crush on him even as a teenager. I remember some months ago when I mistakenly spilled a bowl of soup on his mother’s skirt, he slapped me, and at that point my wolf wanted fighting back, I knew I won’t only be killed but my parent will suffer too. He never liked me because he bullies me like others. I had an eye contact with Vincent and I noticed he couldn’t get his eyes off me, I feel so uncomfortable at his stare I wonder what he could be looking at in my body with full admiration, I quickly take my eyes off when I noticed his girlfriend Rebeca was looking and I continue serving breakfast.
At the dinning I was insulted and reminded of my murder case, my dad stared at me with so much disgust. I can’t wait to turn eighteen so I can leave the pack and start up my life. Tears rolled down my eyes as I walked away from the dinning. My wolf Alexa consoled me she said, “don’t worry our mate will love us someday” Alexa has always wanted a mate for us, she wants a soulmate who will complete us and feel loved. Give us all the happiness we deserve and make us feel important.
I see few students going to school, that breaks heart the more, because school is my only escape from my fears and pains, I was denied the opportunity to see the four walls of a class room ever since I killed Greg. I was the only student who had straight A’s, I win most spelling bees competition and other competition as well, I was the favourite of most teachers.
After rounding up with my chores, I went outside to take some air, my skin looks so pale, as the sun radiant over my skin, my wolf purrs. I hid under the tree and watch as the warriors trained on the field, I was so keen to observe their basic defence skills so as protect myself.
The shadow pack has maintained a good relationship with red moon pack for two decades now, my pack wasn’t the strongest but so brave at handling situations. Every year, at my pack we celebrate renewal of treaties. We merry and celebrate years of friendship.
I was leaning against the wall, staring at the activities happening around me, when I felt a hand pushed me down from behind. I fell on my stomach facing the ground. Rebecca is standing over her chest with her arms crossed over her chest with a triumphant smile. I scowl and try to get up, but a kick in my stomach stops me. She and her two friends hit me several times, and she snarls.
“Don’t you dare stare at my boyfriend again!”
Eryndra covered her mouth with her palm to prevent herself from screaming out loud as she watched the man drop to the floor like a broken puppet whose strings had been suddenly cut. His body convulsed for several terrible, endless seconds as he struggled desperately with his life, his legs kicking weakly against the forest floor while dark crimson blood poured from the arrow wound in his throat like a gruesome fountain. The metallic smell of fresh blood mixed with the earthy scent of decomposing leaves created a nauseating combination that made her stomach churn violently. She had to fight against the overwhelming urge to vomit as she watched the life drain from his eyes, leaving them staring sightlessly up at the canopy of trees above. The silence that followed his death was somehow infinitely worse than the violence that had just occurred right in front of her. The only sounds that remained were the gentle rustling of leaves in the evening wind and Eryndra's own rapid, panicked brea
Without waiting for another second, Malakar caught the arrow that had been aimed at Eryndra with his bare hand, the shaft trembling for just a moment before going completely still in his grip. His reflexes were impossibly fast, almost supernatural in their precision. Then, with a fluid motion that looked almost effortless, like he'd done this countless times before, he threw the arrow back toward the exact same place it had come from. The arrow cut through the air with a whistling sound, spinning end over end as it flew back into the dense woods. It went directly toward its target and struck the arm of the person who was already preparing to shoot again. A sharp, agonized cry of pain echoed through the trees, bouncing off the trunks and creating an eerie chorus that seemed to come from everywhere at once. This was followed immediately by the sound of someone crashing through branches and underbrush, clearly trying to escape despite their injury.Malakar moved with the speed and silenc
The castle's stables were a world unto themselves, filled with the familiar scents of hay, leather, and the earthy musk of horses. Eryndra had always found something comforting about stables, no matter which castle she found herself in. There was an honesty to them that the gilded halls of power lacked. Here, at least, things were straightforward. Horses needed food, water, exercise, and care. There were no hidden agendas or political machinations, just the simple needs of living creatures. As they walked through the wide doors, Eryndra noticed how the stable hands immediately straightened at the sight of their king. Even here, in this most humble part of the castle, Malakar's presence commanded instant respect and attention. The head groom, a weathered man with calloused hands and intelligent eyes, stepped forward quickly."Your Majesty," he said, bowing deeply before turning to retrieve what was obviously a prearranged mount. The horse he led out was magnificent in a way that made E
The heavy oak doors to the throne room groaned open, their sound echoing through the vast chamber. Lord Commander Theron Blackwater stepped inside, his polished boots clicking against the marble floor with military precision. His weathered face bore the stoic expression of a man who had served the crown for decades, though today there was something different in his eyes. A flicker of concern, perhaps, or maybe just the weight of unspoken knowledge."Your Majesty," he said, his voice cutting through the silence as he approached the throne. "The horse is ready."The words hung in the air like a challenge. Malakar's grip on Eryndra's wrist loosened, and she felt the blood rush back to her fingers as she stepped backward. The sudden release made her stumble slightly, but she caught herself, her training as a princess kicking in even in her confusion. She turned to look at the Lord Commander, taking in his stern features and the way his hand rested casually on the pommel of his sword.Ther
HOURS LATER"Your highness, we're done," a maid said softly as she and the other servants finished preparing Eryndra for the long night ahead. The wedding had ended about an hour ago, and now she was alone in her new chambers - no longer the guest room she'd been given earlier, but the queen's quar
Eryndra stared at the mirror, barely recognizing the face looking back at her. The reflection showed a stranger - someone who had been painted and powdered and transformed into something she wasn't. Her face was all dolled up and ready for marriage, but the eyes staring back at her were hollow and
The afternoon light filtered through the tall windows of Eryndra's chambers, casting long shadows across the ornate marble floor. The silence in the room was thick, heavy with unspoken tension that seemed to wrap around them like a suffocating veil. Eryndra's heart hammered against her ribcage as s
Malakar looked at Eryndra for a long moment before he started laughing - not the cruel chuckle he'd been using all evening, but genuine laughter that filled the room with its rich, dark sound."I must confess, my queen, you'll be one of the most entertaining wives I've had among all the others," he
