Before putting the backpack on his back, he gave the corpse another look, then turned to the water bottle and canned food. The lighter was always in his shirt pocket. His attire had already begun to resemble that of the city's civilian population before he entered the dungeon in front of him. Fortunately, it was not damaged.

Mike was getting ready to leave, dagger in hand.

He had no more reason to stay in the empty room.

Mike's retreating steps accelerated as the sunlight slowly faded through the gap in the tightly sealed window.

The criminals would come out at night.

Because Mike didn't intend to confront a gang of criminals head-on, he wouldn't stay in this room that gave away his presence.

At some point, any house would become a target for raiders.

"The sewers or drains would be a much better hiding spot!"

Mike was contemplating his next move.

It didn't have to be cozy; all that mattered was that it be big enough for him to hide.

The underground seemed like the best option because it could shield him from people's eyes.

Naturally, somebody else may be hiding there.

However, in Mike's opinion, the people hiding underground would be much safer to be with than the robbers outside.

Mike pushed the door open and found a corridor and a room that was completely empty at the end of the corridor. Everything inside had already been taken by someone.

He walked through the spacious, empty room that led to the house's exterior.

Bang! just as Mike was about to exit.

It was compelled to open the door that led outside. A second shadowy figure emerged, deeply laughing, after a shadowy figure fell to the ground.

Mike quickly retreated back into the room after the door was forced open, holding the dagger tightly in his hand and listening intently.

Look at that, haha! Who would have guessed it would be a woman?'

That cruel laugh accompanied the obvious excitement.

“Scram!”

a rough, enticing voice, followed by a trembling sound.

Mike imagined the figure using both its arms and its body to retreat from the danger and land on the ground.

Mike's face fell out at once. As they spoke, the figures appeared to be approaching him, and the voice became increasingly distinct.

In addition to the room where Mike was hiding, there was a second room at the end of the corridor. They would have to enter one of the rooms when they got to the end—Mike's room or the empty room on the other side.

A fifty percent chance existed.

Mike began to sweat as he held onto his dagger so tightly.

They were very close.

Closer.

Mike gulped down with trepidation.

The situation before him could not be altered by his anxiety.

He was unable to take another breath as the fallen figure ran back into the room that Mike was in.

The fallen person, who was retreating with both hands, appeared as well to be stunned. After all, who would have imagined that there would be another individual present?

The figure, on the other hand, soon recovered its composure.

It did not linger on Mike to ask for assistance as it continued to retreat.

Mike was somewhat startled by it.

Mike quickly fell asleep as the footsteps kept coming closer.

While the person who was following them was definitely dangerous, the person in front of him may not have been.

They would definitely get into a fight if they found him.

Additionally, a fight of this kind would eventually result in a massacre.

Mike was extremely aware of his capabilities.

When compared to a thug who had been in a war for four months, he lacked strength and fighting skills.

Still, there was a chance.

Mike gave the backed-up fallen woman a look.

She appeared to be at ease, but Mike could see that she was looking with clear intent in her eyes. He ducked deeper into the shadows while holding his breath.

A loud, clear sound came from the leather shoes as they stepped on the ground. It sounded like a beast trying to assert its dominance while hunting its prey.

"Never get any closer!"

With a coarse voice and a hint of despair, the woman on the ground shrank to the corner.

The pursuer appeared even more excited by this.

Because he was focused on the woman, he did not notice that there was another person in the room.

Mike was completely exposed to the pursuer's back as he examined his prey.

While the man was getting closer, Mike was holding his breath. He didn't dither. He picked up the knife slowly.

and viciously stabbed the man.

Although Mike brutally stabbed the pursuer in the back, only half of the blade penetrated.

The wound burst into blood immediately.

“Ahh!”

After the pursuer let out a scream, his body independently moved forward.

Mike followed along with him, pressing even harder with his left hand on his right hand, which was holding the dagger. He pressed hard, but the dagger did not appear to move any further in.

"Oh no, it has broken a bone!"

Mike instinctively pulled out the dagger when he became alarmed.

His eyes became numb as the fresh, warm blood poured all over his face and gushed out.

He was temporarily blind, so he panicked and started swinging the dagger everywhere.

His sole thought at the time was that the pursuer should not be allowed to breathe, or else he would be the one to die.

Mike increased the speed of his wielding in response to this thought.

The only sound in the room was the sound of metal piercing flesh.

Mike finally mastered the proper way to use the dagger after repeatedly swinging it around.

He would only inflict a flesh wound on his target by blindly slicing around.

Instead, he ought to be in a stabbed position.

He had to steer clear of the man's skeleton and focus on his flesh and muscles, his soft spots.

His body naturally moved toward his goal.

He loosened his grip on the dagger and quickly regained some of his vision. The dagger lunged out like it was attached to a spring when he used his right elbow.

Bam!

Mike did not immediately run over to start the generator when the explosion was over. Despite the fact that they could not have survived, Mike wanted to be safe. He could not afford to remain vigilant at this time.He walked over to the diesel generator and turned it back on after waiting until there were no more sounds coming from the room.It sounded like a worn-out generator. Except for the room where the criminals were located, the corridor and all of the rooms had regained power. The grenade had destroyed all of its lights and walls.Even though Mike was already aware of the smell of blood, the scene inside the room still caused his stomach to turn.To avoid vomiting, he had to hold himself back. Before he took the money, he made it a point to force himself to confirm that each of the criminals was dead.Sadly, the criminals had

The girl coughed as Mike removed the cloth from her mouth. She looked directly at him while keeping it down, as instructed by Mike. The reason she had ended up at the base was because she was pretty and delicate.Mike's eyes begged for her to be untied.Mike did not respond right away. Instead, he asked her a question.“Hold up, could you first introduce yourself? a suitable introduction."He had to make sure she wouldn't bother him in any way. Mike hoped that she would continue to cooperate because so far she had kept her voice down.Despite the fact that the Vulture might have taken advantage of her, he would still keep his distance from her. In contrast to Colleen, with whom he had developed a bond, she was still a stranger to him. However, that was not the primary explanation for why Mike refused to untie her.“My name is Maggie, and I am an apprentice nurse at St. Joanna Hospital. I was hiding with the others at the Harles Street Underground Subway Station before they caught me.

Mike was barely able to control himself any longer. Mike's expression changed to one of smugness and arrogance, much like that of the robbers he had encountered, as soon as he entered the storage door. "Now what? Oh my God! When everyone else is drinking and playing poker, why do I have to be back here? The third time this week! A rogue speaking from one of the rooms said the words. He was lamenting the fact that he was supposed to be on guard duty near the storage entrance. He turned his gun on Mike when he noticed his unfamiliar face. Who in the world are you? He pressed. "Hey, man, I'm with you! I was introduced to the group by Drey. I even received Tom's blessing! With his hands in the air, Mike explained. The thug seemed relieved when Mike mentioned the name of the captive and the group's leader. He still didn't put his gun down, though. “Drey? Then exactly where is he?” He pressed. “Oh. So you don't know about the mission of Drey and Tom? Mike asked him, his expression

  • THE DEVILS CASTLE   CHAPTER SEVENTEEN: INFILTRATION

The night was dead silent. Sixth Broadway was once a lively and merry area, but everything changed after the war. Everything was now ruined. Nevertheless, there were still a few taller structures that had survived the war and stood proudly among the wreckage. One of them was the mall. It had clearly seen better days as the city's largest mall. It no longer even had a proper roof on it. As if a meteor had broken through the structure, a large hole could be seen on its top. Still, during the war, it was a good place for people to hide. The only issue was that a group of armed criminals were living there. In the shadows, there were currently two security guards keeping an eye on the mall's vicinity by leaning against the walls. Their jobs made them both look bad. They were neither paying attention. This was not uncommon conduct. The fact that this was the base of the Vulture was known to every civilian and lackey in the area of Sixth. Everyone else had fled when the first person
