CHAPTER ONE: ENTERING THE GAME

It was August, and the sky was bright with a harsh sun.Even though the thick curtains were drawn shut, the venomous sunlight was still visible. The only light in the room came from it, which shone through the gaps in the curtains to form a square border.Ring!Once more, the phone rang.It went to the answering machine after three rings.“Mike? Doctor Frank is here. You will turn eighteen years old in one year. You will completely lose your chance if you wait to start your genetic treatment! As usual, polite and official.Mike focused on the game cartridge in his hand and ignored the message.Bright red color with a thumbnail-sized size.Mike pushed the cartridge that had consumed all of his savings into the virtual helmet's cartridge slot after checking it.Tuck! The speaker of the virtual helmet let out an alert. He didn't bother. When it came to an underground game, there was evidently neither a manufacturer's warning nor a safety hazard warning. This game made the claim that it c

CHAPTER TWO: SEARCH

He had not forgotten why he had joined the underworld game in the first place: to make enough money to pay for treatment for his genetic disease. However, he would need to become strong enough to do that. He could only get more money and good equipment in-game when he was strong enough, and when he had enough of those, he could trade them in for money in real life. He was now without anything. A lack of character traits, an empty inventory, and no skills or equipment. Even his rating was extremely low. He clearly did not yet meet the requirements. He would require additional time to become stronger. However, neither did he have nearly as much time. In real life, he only had about a year to live. But in the game itself? He didn't know exactly how much time he had, but from the virtual game time, it didn't look like he had much more time than in real life. the reason why he needed to make the most of every chance to grow stronger. An opportunity of this kind lay right in front

CHAPTER THREE: BACKSTAB

Before putting the backpack on his back, he gave the corpse another look, then turned to the water bottle and canned food. The lighter was always in his shirt pocket. His attire had already begun to resemble that of the city's civilian population before he entered the dungeon in front of him. Fortunately, it was not damaged.Mike was getting ready to leave, dagger in hand.He had no more reason to stay in the empty room.Mike's retreating steps accelerated as the sunlight slowly faded through the gap in the tightly sealed window. The criminals would come out at night.Because Mike didn't intend to confront a gang of criminals head-on, he wouldn't stay in this room that gave away his presence. At some point, any house would become a target for raiders."The sewers or drains would be a much better hiding spot!"Mike was contemplating his next move.It didn't have to be cozy; all that mattered was that it be big enough for him to hide. The underground seemed like the best option because

CHAPTER FOUR: SKILL

The pursuer's chest was entered by the entire dagger. With an incredulous expression on his face, the pursuer collapsed as he was about to counterattack with the kitchen knife in his hand. He was looking at his chest and the dagger that was deep inside him.The pursuer was unable to comprehend how a person who appeared to be harmless could suddenly turn into such a deadly killer, leading to his death. The same was true for Mike. He was totally perplexed. The stench of the dying man's blood brought back memories of what he had done as he stared at him.His senses were stimulated by the bright red blood as he looked at the very real-looking corpse. He was so sickened by the fact that he had killed the pursuer with his own hands that his stomach turned and he threw up.Mike finished his work and collapsed to the ground, exhausted and weak. His face was covered in snot and tears, making him appear silly and messy."Are you finished now?"He instinctively raised his head in response to the

CHAPTER FIVE: GUNSHOT

A half-empty pack of cigarettes fell into Mike’s hands.[Name: Cigarettes][Type: Miscellaneous][Rarity: Common][Attribute: Has a small effect on fear and anxiety.][Effect: None][Able to bring out of dungeon: Yes][Remark: In the face of true fear or panic, it’s better than nothing!]A second lighter was also there, in addition to the pack of cigarettes. The newly discovered lighter had the same design and details as the ones Mike had previously acquired.Mike put the new lighter and the cigarettes he was holding in his shirt's pocket after looking at them.He did not use tobacco.Firstly, due to his health, and secondly, due to his financial difficulties, he was unable to be.He kept his distance due to his genetic condition and the fact that a pack of cigarettes can cost as much as two meals in the real world. However, he would not mind smoking while playing the game.Naturally, this was not the time.Mike sat down, carefully examining the body once more. He left after verifying

CHAPTER SIX: AMBUSH

Shot had been fired at the man who had just backed off. His head bursting open like a watermelon that had been hit by a car, splashing everywhere. Two people emerged simultaneously from the gloom with a menacing grin on their faces. After looking back at the two shooters, Mike turned to look at the headless body on the ground. He quickly retreated to the wall behind him, escaping their fire by shaking through his entire body."Bless it!"Behind the same wall, the lady hid. She started cursing incessantly when they resumed firing."Son of a slob! What brought the Vulture's men to this location?Underneath her ash-covered face, Mike could clearly sense her fear and hatred.“Vulture?”Under his breath, Mike murmured the phrase. He was well aware that she was referring to a title rather than the bird.Anyone with such a title did not appear to be nice.Vultures were well-known in the animal kingdom for preying on dead bodies and eating their flesh. If someone had such a title... Mike thou

CHAPTER SEVEN: REST

He was forced to act. It was a matter of life or death. He kept smiling as he looked at the attributes window.[Stamina: 20]His stamina had dropped from a hundred to twenty during the battle. However, as he kept taking deep breaths, he was recovering by one percentage point per second. After a short rest, Mike was able to stand up again. He quickly searched the body in front of him for potential loot.[Name: M1905][Type: Gun][Rarity: Damaged][Attack: Normal][Magazine: 7 rounds][Attributes: None][Effect: None][Able to bring outside of the dungeon: Yes][Remark: This is an 11mm handgun that has not been maintained well. Beware of jamming bullets!]……[Name: Bullet][Type: Ammunition][Rarity: Common][Attributes: None][Effect: None][Able to bring outside of dungeon: Yes][Remark: Rounds for an 11mm handgun. Potent handgun bullets.]…….Mike was limited to two M1905 handguns and six rounds of ammunition.Other than those, there was nothing else that was useful to carry.Mike fe

CHAPTER EIGHT: RELENT

Mike stated, "There are good people everywhere."It was the right thing to say at that time, and it could not be said to be comforting or critical.Colleen was made to acknowledge him by these words.Colleen stated, "You must leave before nightfall tomorrow," adding, "I could let you stay with me for a day to repay you for helping me."Mike then replied, "Thank you."He felt it was inappropriate for him to inquire about Colleen, despite his desire for additional details.Even though it was just a game, the realism made Mike realize that if he made any bad moves, they would probably start a chain reaction that would affect how he performed in the game in the future.Based on his previous experiences, it was more likely to be the latter reaction. He no longer had to explain how a man who had served in the war for four months had not become familiar with the city.Despite this, Mike was of the opinion that Colleen's perception of him would swiftly alter if he asked her a question that di

CHAPTER NINE: SECOND SKILL

"Seems like I'm in serious trouble!" Mike spoke softly. He wanted to learn more about Colleen from her.Because he had always had to work for a living as a child, he had developed the habit of never trusting anyone completely.especially in situations where life or death is at stake, like this one. We're both in trouble, and you're not the only one. When we killed those shooters last night, there were witnesses back there. They will travel to the Vulture to tell him everything. He will immediately begin his hunt for us if he learns that we killed both of his men. He'll assign all of his men to the task. Until he sees our dead bodies hanging, that fucker will not stop! He uses it to protect his ego and pride! Colleen spoke with clenched teeth. She then said, "My food will last me about two days," turning to Mike. What do you think?Mike responded, "About the same," widening his backpack to reveal the remaining cans of food inside.Because Mike was sincere, Colleen believed that she als

CHAPTER TEN: NIGHTFALL

[Agility reached F. Sufficient to learn the evading skill...][Skill Learned: Evade][Name: Evade (Basic)][Skill Type: Ancillary][Effect: Evasion Increased by 10%. You have learned battle-evading techniques.][Consumes: Stamina][Prerequisite: F in Agility][Remarks: You can use the side roll or back roll to evade your opponent’s attack!]"Attributes and skills work together, as I expected!"After comparing his acquired skills and the system notifications, Mike came to this conclusion.Another hypothesis he proposed was, "When skill levels increase, attributes also increase."That wasn't confirmed by him yet.How did it go? Did you receive it? Standing off to the side after her demonstration, Colleen said. She paid attention to Mike's blank expression. As she pondered whether he was okay, she slightly frowned. It was clear that she was not pleased with the fact that he had not been paying attention to her demonstration.Mike tried to distract her with his own demonstration when he n
