Kelly's POV

“Urghhhhh,” I groaned, slamming my laptop shut for the fifth time that morning. This was my fifth attempt at revamping my college application, and each time, I seemed to sink deeper into a pit of self-doubt. One moment I was confident about my essay; the next, I convinced myself it sounded juvenile.

The weather wasn’t helping either. It was overcast, and the gloom seemed to match my mood. I let out a loud sigh. “I’m frustrated!” I yelled into the empty room.

Scrubbing my hands down my face, I tried to refocus, but my thoughts kept drifting. Alex had beaten me fair and square in last night’s Scrabble game, something I didn’t think was possible.
