Chapter 142

Ariel’s POV

For a second, my brain refused to catch up, none of it made sense for a start.

The ropes, her ropes, just… slipped. Like they had never been there in the first place.

I stared at her hands, then at her face, then back at her hands again, like if I looked hard enough, reality would correct itself.

It didn’t.

“What…?” My voice came out thinner than I expected. “What am I looking at right now?”

Sarah didn’t answer immediately.

She flexed her wrists once, like she was testin

Chapter 146Ariel's POV I woke up slowly, like I was rising through water.Everything felt heavy first. My eyelids, my arms, even my breath. There was a dull pressure sitting behind my eyes, a steady ache that pulsed with every breath I drew in. For a moment, I didn’t move. I just lay there, listening to the faint hum around me, trying to remember how to exist inside my own body again. Then the pain came sharper. It started in my ribs like a warning, so sudden and tight. I sucked in a breath too fast, regretting it immediately. That only made it worse. A dry cough tore through my chest, shallow and weak, but enough to send another wave of pain through my side.I froze, my hand instinctively pressing against my ribs.Something is wrong.I forced my eyes open and the light above me greeted me, way too bright at first, making everything blur together. A white ceiling, soft shadows, and a faint smell of antiseptic that didn’t belong anywhere I remembered. My throat felt dry as I gulpe

Chapter 145Ariel’ POVThe bullet blast went through the space, but Dermos didn't drop, he still sat strong with his eyes wide open. But someone fell, and it wasn't Ariella.Valerio's body dropped flat with a hole in his skull and blood dropping. For a second, I couldn’t blinkThen Carlos rushed to Dermos, untying the rope around his hands.“Get the fuck away from me!” Dermos yelled.“I know you hate me, but this isn't the time for this. They'll soon be here,” Carlos replied, as he untied his hands. Then did the same for me.As I stood, my eyes landed on Ariella's at once. She stared back at me for a full minute before turning and running off.“Come on, we have to go,” Carlos said, just as a bullet tore through the wall by my side.I ducked and ran with Dermos coming behind me and Carlos leading the way.A man rushed at Carlos, he ducked and caught him, sending him to the wall and firing at him twice. Then, another came but fired, hitting Carlos on his shoulder before Carlos responded

Chapter 144Dermos’ POVThe gunshots didn’t sound like anything at first, just sharp cracks splitting through the air, too fast for my brain to process. Then, Marcus dropped, right beside me..My chest tightened. “Marcus—!”The word ripped out of me as I lunged forward, but my feet barely moved before more shots rang out. Marcus hit the ground hard and didn’t move a muscle. I stood still, staring at his lifeless body as blood pooled the floor around him, snapping something in me.“No—no, no, no—” I muttered, shaking my head as I stared at him. “Get up… come on, get up…”But he didn’t. My stomach twisted violently as I stood frozen, my mind refusing to catch up with what my eyes were seeing. This wasn’t supposed to happen. This wasn’t how this was supposed to go.I lifted my head slowly to Carlos, he was standing a few feet away, completely untouched by any of it.He looked calm as he watched Marcus’ lifeless body. Our eyes met seconds later, and in that moment, everything made sense

Chapter 143Ariel’s POVThe sound of the gunshot didn’t fade. It lingered, ringing and echoing in the air, splitting something open inside my chest that I couldn’t put back together.Sarah’s body jerked as the bullet hit her in the stomach. Everything shattered with it.“No!!” I screamed, hearing my own voice echoing loudly in my ears. For a second, I couldn’t breathe. My eyes locked on Sarah as her body jerked from the impact, her hand instinctively flying to her tummy. Blood, too much of it, started seeping through her fingers almost immediately.“No…” The word slipped out of me without permission. “No, no—Sarah—”My legs moved before my mind did.I dropped beside her, my hands hovering uselessly over the wound like I didn’t know where to touch, what to do, how to fix something like this.“Sarah, look at me,” I said quickly, my voice shaking now, breaking in ways I couldn’t control. “Hey—hey, stay with me, okay? You’re fine. You’re fine, just—just stay with me.”Her breathing was u

That wasn’t loose, that wasn’t—how did you—”“I needed them to think I was,” she cut in qu

Chapter 141Sarah’s POV“Don’t be too cocky,” I muttered to him as I pushed off him, giving him the space to stand. He stared back at me for a long second before turning his eyes away and pushing himself up.His frame towered over me, but I kept a respectable distance between us, just in case he tries anything. He didn't look at it as he just stretched. “On the contrary, you look to be the one feeling cocky right now,” he chimed. “Been a while since a lady had me on the floor like that,” he added with a smirk.I ignored him and stepped out of the house, moving towards the car. I heard him laugh behind me, but in a few minutes, he was by my side, shutting the door behind us. The night air felt sharper than it should have, brushing against my skin like a warning. He glanced at me, amused at first. Like I was still the same girl he thought he had figured out.“For the record,” I continued, adjusting my sleeve as if this was a pretty casual thing to say, “this conversation was on record.
