LIA

I wake to light, forcing its way through the edges of the boarded window.

My body aches from the floor.

At some point during the night, I slid down into the corner beside the bed and stayed there. It felt safer.

My throat is dry. My head dull. Voices downstairs again.

I pull my knees closer to my chest.

I press my palm flat against my stomach.

Footsteps approach. They stop outside my door.

My entire body goes rigid. The door opens, and a man steps in. Taller than the others

  • THE DONS' VIRGIN   NIGHTMARES

LIA I’m running. The hallway is dark. The door in front of me is half-open. I don’t want to look inside. But I’m already there. “On your knees.” The voice slices through the dark. I try to move. My feet won’t obey. Laughter follows, then silhouettes of men surround me. “They always pretend to have dignity at first.” My throat tightens. Inside the room, shadows move across the wall. I can’t see faces. Just shapes. “Look at me when I speak.” A muffled response. “Good girl.” The words echo, louder this time. I clap my hands over my ears. The door swings open fully, and the room is empty — except now I’m the one inside. Four silhouettes turn toward me. “You’re next.” I wake up choking. The darkness is real this time, and so is the pain in my chest. It takes me a second to remember where I am. Then it all floods back. The house. The booking. The hallway. The voices. I sit up, dragging air into my lungs. My hands are shaking badly. I

  • THE DONS' VIRGIN   Next time it's you

LIA I sit on the edge of the mattress when the lock turns again. My body tenses automatically. A different man steps in this time. He sets a tray on the table. “I’m not hungry,” I say before he can speak. “Doesn’t matter,” he replies. There’s rice. Meat. A bottle of water. The sight unsettles me more than scraps would have. “You should eat.” “I said I’m not hungry.” “Listen,” he says, lowering his voice. “You don’t want to start like this.” “Start what?” “They don’t like defiance.” My jaw tightens. “They hit me anyway.” His eyes flick briefly to my cheek. “That was a warning.” My stomach twists. I fold my arms. “And this is what? Kindness?” “No,” he says bluntly. “It’s survival.” “You’re pregnant,” he adds quietly. “I heard.” I hate that word here. It feels exposed. Weaponized. “So?” I challenge. “So starving yourself won’t hurt them.” “I’m not your enemy,” he mutters. “But I’m not your friend either. Eat. Don’t make yourself a problem. Pro

I pull my knees closer to my chest. I press my palm flat against my stomach. Footsteps approach. They stop outside my door. My entire body goes rigid. The door opens, and a man steps in. Taller than the others. Face covered with a black mask. Gloves on. He doesn’t greet me. He tosses something onto the bed. Fabric. A dress. My stomach drops. “Get dressed.” He steps closer. “I won’t repeat myself.” My fingers curl into the sleeve of my shirt. “What is this?” My voice hoarse. His head tilts slightly. “You’ll do what you’re told,” he says. “That’s how this works.” “I’m pregnant,” I say before I can stop myself. He pauses. Then shrugs. “Then don’t make it difficult.” He turns to

  • THE DONS' VIRGIN   KIDANAPPED,AGAIN

LIA The van door yanks open. Rough hands grab my arm before I can steady myself. “Move.” I stumble out onto gravel. My vision swims for a second — leftover sedative, adrenaline, fear — I don’t know which is winning. Trees. Thick. Endless. No road in sight. They don’t give me time to adjust. One of them grips my upper arm tighter when my knees threaten to fold. “I’m walking,” I snap, trying to pull free. His fingers tighten in response. “Then walk faster.” The house ahead looks wrong. Windows dark. No lights outside. No cars except the van. My breathing gets shallow. The last time started like this, too. A vehicle. A location no one would find. The slow realization that screaming wouldn’t help. “Upstairs,” someone orders. I dig my heels in. “Who sent you?” My voice cracks despite my effort. One of them shoves me between the shoulder blades. “Keep moving.” The stairs blur. My heartbeat is so loud I can hear it in my ears. I grab the railing, forcing m

  • THE DONS' VIRGIN   DOCTOR’S OFFICE II

QUAN “I’ll go get the doctor.” The room feels smaller. I exhale slowly and reach for my phone. Dimitri answers on the second ring. “Quan , why are you calling me from a hospital?” “They took her. " --- By the time I arrive, I already know something is wrong. A man in scrubs is waiting near the entrance. “You must be family,” he says. “I am ,” I agree, walking past him. Third floor. Restricted wing. The doors open onto aftermath. A cracked monitor screen. A dented supply cart pushed hard into the wall. Two guards standing outside the door. “He regained consciousness abruptly,” she begins. “He was disoriented. He didn’t recognize the facility. He kept asking where his wife was.” “Reasonable,” I say mildly. “She wasn’t listed as a patient here,” the doctor continues. “That escalated things.” I glance around. “I can see that.” “He attempted to leave the ward,” another doctor adds. “Forced entry into an administrative office. We had to sedate him for h

  • THE DONS' VIRGIN   DOCTOR'S OFFICE

LIA Six months changes everything. My stomach curves gently, undeniable, and I can’t hide it even if I try. Dresses hang looser, chairs are pulled out for me. He walks a half-step closer than he used to. His hand hovers at my back when we move through the hallways, just enough to remind me he’s here. I ease myself onto the couch in the sitting room that’s slowly becomes mine, exhaling as I settle. “I used to be able to do that without planning,” I mutter. His mouth twitches. “You still can. You just announce it now.” I shoot him a look. “You enjoy this far too much.” “I enjoy knowing you’re comfortable,” he corrects. I rest a hand on the curve of my belly, more habit than ceremony now. “The doctor says everything’s progressing well.” “I know,” he says. “She told me.” “You asked again?” “I always ask,” he replies evenly. I study him for a moment, then smile. “You’re going to be unbearable when the baby’s born.” “I already am,” he says. A pause, and then qu
