Chapter 9

LESLIE

Just as he took off my shirt, I pulled abruptly away from the kiss.

I was back to my senses yet again like the previous night.

"Wait! I just got my period!" I didn't know when I yelled those words that were lies and slipped away from under him and left the room. Again.

With just my bra on and my shorts, I went to the other room that I could use as mine.

My heart was thumping so loud and I was suddenly scared.

I just don't want to fall in love with Caden because I know he is not mine and will never be mine.

I was afraid of getting pregnant too if I had sex with me. It's actually going to be my first time and I feared that I might get pregnant and that will ruin everything.

I'm not supposed to love him or even get pregnant for him. That was not part of the plan.

I'm just to pretend to be Lauren and be his wife till Lauren was healed.

I don't want any complications in the future.

Just when I was lost in thought, there was a knock on the door and it could only be Caden.

"I know you are in there Lauren. Come on out, I made you chamomile tea, I heard it's good for cramps," He said softly.

I was touched by his kindness. I did not expect Caden to be kindhearted and romantic.

I thought he was going to be a cold and grumpy guy like those CEOs that were mean too.

I stood up from the floor where I was sitting and went to meet him outside the door. I crossed my arms around my boobs as I was just on my bra.

I took the tea from him and followed him to the bedroom. I sat on the bed and he covered my legs with the duvet. He gave me my shirt to wear and I wore it.

"Thank you." I mouthed softly.

"I will wait until you are ready and I will not force you. When you are ready to consumate, I will be ready then too," Caden said.

"I'm sorry. It is going to be my first time and I'm really scared." I told him. It was not entirely a lie but that was not exactly the reason I did not want to consumate with him.

"And thank you." I smiled lightly and drank the tea after inhaling in the nice smell.

He took the cup from me. "I need to go out, I will be back." He told me and left.

CADEN

I got to the convenience store and went to the sanitary pads place and there were so many types of them. I did not know exactly which one Lauren used.

Girls there kept stealing glances at me and murmuring amongst themselves. They were talking about me looking at the sanitary pads.

I was so embarrassed. After contemplating, I decided to buy all the different types. Leslie should be able to choose from either of them.

One of them might be the product she uses.

I got home and gave the cellophane bag to Lauren shyly with my face turned the other way.

"Here, I don't know which one you use so, I got all the types I could lay my hands on." I explained as she took it from me.

She looked confused as she opened the bag. She gasped and poured out the sanitary pads on the bed.

"Wow!" She laughed softly. "You did not have to. I'm so touched. Thank you." She smiled at me.

I nodded my head and left the room. I went back to the room to see her still staring at the sanitary pads on the bed.

"Uhm...would you still be able to open the presents tonight?" I asked her. She looked up at me and as if she was in a deep thoughts, she shook her head negatively.

"We could just open only the ones Ivy brought in then tomorrow morning, we would open the others. But first, let's eat dinner, I'm hungry." She replied.

I giggled and smiled at her.

"Alright, let's go downstairs." I replied and left.

It was quite late already and the chef had gone home but before he left, he made spaghetti and meatballs. I took it from the fridge and microwaved it.

I served it on two plates and placed a cup of water beside Lauren's while a cup of orange juice beside mine.

Lauren came down in a different clothes and her hair was tied in a loose ponytail, she still looked very pretty.

"Huh? Why do I have a glass of water beside mine and you have a glass of orange juice beside yours?" She whined like a child.

"Oh! I thought you might have cramps and avoiding sweet things would be better." I replied and scratched the back of my head.

"You got it all wrong! When I'm on my period, eating sweets and chocolates is what I prefer." She huffed.

"Really? Is that so? I did not know. I would take note of that." I replied.

I gave her my orange juice and took her water. I poured myself another glass of orange juice.

We both ate silent.

When we were done, I cleared the table and Lauren insisted on doing the dishes but I refused. After arguing about who to do the dishes and who not to, we both ended up doing the dishes together.

After that, we went to the sitting room to watch dranas together.

"We should go open the presents now," I said after the drama we were watching ended.

"Sure." She replied and stood up. We both went upstairs to our bedroom and placed the box on the bed.

Lauren was the first to open hers and when I told to look at what was in it, I chuckled.

It was a pink lacy lingerie.

"It's sexy." I winked at the shy and embarrassed Lauren.

"Pervert." She shot back and huffed. She could not even stare back at me.

LESLIE

When I opened my box and found a pink lacy lingerie, I was totally speechless.

Being shy was an understatement.

"It's sexy." Caden winked at me and I felt like the ground should open up and swallow me.

"Pervert." I shot back and huffed. I avoided eye contact with him and stared at the floor.

I returned the lingerie inside the box and closed it.

"What is inside yours?" I asked Caden.

He opened his and it was a matching couple set of pyjamas.

"Wow! It's so cute." I smiled.

He gave me the smaller one and then, he took the bigger one.

Caden smiled as he looked at the pyjamas.

Caden and I looked at each other and laughed.

Just then, my phone buzzed and I quickly got it. I opened my phone and when I saw it was a message from Lauren, my heart skipped.

I opened the message slowly and the text read, "Don't be too drawn into the marriage. Do not fall in love with Caden Holtons. Remember that you are just a fake and substitute bride. He is mine!"
