~LUCA'S POV~

My eyes opened and the ceiling stared back at me, but my mind was already elsewhere. A hospital room. White sheets. A girl I had knocked down by mistake and left behind with an apology that felt far too small for the moment it belonged to.

I sat up slowly, running a hand over my face. Sleep had not done much for me. The image of her lying still on the road had replayed itself too many times in my head. I told myself she was fine. She had been conscious. Her father had not shouted. The doctors had not rushed her into emergency. Still, the weight stayed.

“I should go see her,” I muttered to myself.

The decision felt settled the moment I said it out loud.

I pushed myself out of bed and headed straight to the bathroom. The water from the shower came down warm and steady, washing over my shoulders as I stood there longer than usual. I tried to clear my head, but my thoughts kept drifting back. I wondered if she had slept at all. If she was in pain. If she hated me for what hap

The chandelier above the Browns’ dining room cast a soft golden glow over the polished marble floor as Clara dropped her school bag by the stairs and walked toward her parents. The smell of jasmine from fresh flowers mixed with the faint scent of expensive coffee. Her mother sat elegantly on the cream colored sofa, flipping through a fashion magazine, while her father stood near the wide glass window, speaking briefly into his phone before ending the call.“Mom, Dad,” Clara said, clearing her throat. “Can we talk about my birthday.”Jessica Brown looked up immediately, her lips curving into a knowing smile. She closed the magazine slowly and crossed her legs.“Of course, darling,” she said. “I was wondering when you would bring it up.”Edward Brown turned around, slipping his phone into his pocket. His tailored suit looked effortless on him, as if wealth had always known where to sit on his shoulders.“You will be seventeen,” he said proudly. “That is not a small thing.”Clara smiled,

~ARIA’S POV~I watched the hospital building and its surroundings as Luca eased the car into the parking lot.“Let us get her something proper to eat,” I said softly. “Hospital food never feels like comfort.”Luca nodded. “There is a place across the street. They make good chicken alfredo and vegetable rice.”“That sounds perfect,” I replied. We returned minutes later with neatly packed containers of chicken alfredo pasta, jollof rice with grilled chicken, and a small fruit parfait. I held the warm paper bag close to my chest as if it carried more than food. It carried intention. When we reached Anna’s room, the door was slightly open. Michael was not there.“She must be resting,” Luca whispered. We stepped in quietly, but the soft shuffle of our shoes stirred her. Her eyes fluttered open, confused at first, then brightening when she saw us.“You came back,” she said, her voice small but full of surprise.I smiled and moved closer. “We did. We thought you might be hungry.”Her face li

“Explain this to me, Victor. Explain why these figures do not balance.” Mr Donovan said, his voice calm but carrying a dangerous edge.Victor Haynes stood stiffly across the wide desk, his hands clasped behind him. His eyes flicked to the open files spread before the former chairman like evidence in a courtroom.“I can explain, sir,” Victor replied carefully. “There were delays during your absence. Some transactions were approved verbally. Others were still pending clearance.”Mr Donovan let out a short laugh, sharp and humorless.“Verbally?” he echoed. “You were my personal assistant, not the owner of this company. You were entrusted to keep things steady, not drain them dry.”He rose from his chair and picked up one of the files, flipping through it with quick angry movements.“Millions unaccounted for,” Mr Donovan continued. “Workflow disrupted. Departments operating without authorization. Do you think I traveled overseas to return to this mess?”Victor swallowed. He lowered his he

~VICTOR'S POV~“You’re still here?” I called out, my voice sharp though my chest tightened.A shadow moved in front of the doorway, and my heart skipped a beat. Fear gripped me in a way it hadn’t in years. My eyes narrowed as I strained to see, the dim light from my desk lamp casting long shadows across the private office.“It’s me, Dad,” came the calm, low reply.I froze for a moment, then exhaled slowly as my son, Miles, stepped into the room. He looked older than I remembered, taller, with that same cold composure that seemed to have settled into his bones ever since his mother left. I had always thought that being wealthy could buy comfort, but no amount of money could fill the absence of a mother’s love.“Miles,” I said, my voice softer this time, trying to hide the sudden lump in my throat. “What are you doing here?”“I wanted to see you,” he said simply, hands shoved into his pockets. His gaze was steady, unyielding. It wasn’t the anger I expected. It was something harder to re

~ARIA'S POV~I stood in my small apartment, my fingers brushing over the edge of the suitcase under my bed. Next month, I would return to my old luxury mansion.I picked up my phone and dialed Luca’s number. I did not hesitate. He answered almost instantly, his calm tone carrying that quiet reassurance I had always relied on.“I can tell from your silence that you have made up your mind,” Luca said.“I have,” I replied. “I am moving back to the mansion next month. And I need you to help me get everything organized. Today, we are going to see Adrian at the Bureau. Everything you gathered at the event must go straight to him.”“I am ready,” Luca said. “I will be there shortly.”We had always moved as a team, like siblings, and I appreciated that. He arrived within minutes, parked casually in front of my building, the same easy presence that had always grounded me.“You handled everything so well,” I said as we walked toward the car. “At the event, with Marcus, with all the evidence. I k

~AT THE HAYNES MANSION~“You should have spoken to me before making that move,” Victor said.Ethan paused just inside the grand living room of the Haynes mansion. The crystal chandelier above cast a muted glow across the marble floor, making the space feel colder than it already was. He loosened his tie slowly, careful not to appear defensive.“I knew you would be upset, which is why I came myself,” Ethan said.Victor turned away from the fireplace, a glass of whiskey in his hand. His face was calm, but the tension in his eyes told a different story.“Upset is an understatement. You requested an enormous loan without consulting me,” Victor said.“I did what had to be done for the company,” Ethan said.“For the company or for you,” Victor asked.Ethan straightened his shoulders.“If the company collapses, we both lose everything,” Ethan said.Victor walked closer, placing his glass on the table with deliberate care.“You asked Caleb Ryder for twenty-five million dollars. That is not a
