" Don't you think we should put an end to this bloodshed?"

Selene’s voice cut through the tense air of the pack clinic like a blade. The room smelled of blood and herbs, a bitter blend of violence and hopelessness. Around them, warriors moaned on thin cots, their injuries sutured hastily by the overworked healers.

Rylan turned to her, jaw tight. “ You think surrendering to the Shadowfangs is the answer? ”

Selene bristled. “ I never said surrender. I said peace. An alliance with Alpha Kieran could — ”

“ No. ” His voice was sharp, final. “ I'll not bow to him. ”

She clenched her fist. “ This isn't about pride, Rylan. Ravena and her rogues are growing bolder. They struck in broad daylight, right at our borders. We lost five warriors today! How many more will have to die before you see that we need allies?”

Rylan’s golden eyes burned with defiance. “ We're strong enough. We do not need help from Kieran.”

Selene inhaled deeply, forcing herself to stay calm. “ Strong enough to do what? Keep throwing our people into battle until we've no one  left? Kieran has been offering a truce for months. If we — ”

“ I said no. ”

His voice was cold steel . The room seemed to shrink around them, the sounds of the wounded warriors fading into a dull hum.

Selene exhaled deeply, her heart

pounding. “ Why? Because of some old grudge? Because you refuse to let go of the past? ”

Rylan stepped closer, towering over her. “ Because I don't trust him. And neither should you. ”

She met his gaze, unyielding. “ He’s not our enemy, Rylan. The rogues are. ”

He let out a bitter laugh, shaking his head. “ You’re too trusting, Selene. You always have been. That’s what I love about you — and what will get you killed. ”

His words stung. She only wanted what is best for the pack. If only he could listen and do what is right.

Selene held his bloodied arm, her face etched in concern . “  Let me speak to him. Let me- ”

Rylan’s growl rumbled through his chest. “No”.

Selene’s nails dug into her palms. “ You can't order me around, Rylan. ”

He grabbed her wrist not rough, not gentle, but firm enough to shoot a clear message. His golden eyes darkened. “ I can when it comes to your safety. And you won't go to Kieran. Promise me, Selene. ”

She hesitated, heart twisting.

“ Promise me, ” he pressed, voice laced with something raw.

Selene swallowed the bitterness rising in her throat. “ Fine. I promise. ”

His shoulders relaxed slightly, but the tension between them still crackled like a coming storm. “ I will meet with the elders tomorrow, I am certain they'd have a solution”.

Selene scoffed. “ Elders? Those old men do nothing but sit around to be worshipped like gods. What solution could they possibly offer?

His eyes burned with anger. “ Do not say that, ” he cautioned. “ We’ve lived under their guidance and I know they are powerful enough to stop Ravena and the rogues”.

She  breathed out in exasperation, there is no need discussing the issue further.

Out of habit, out of love, she reached for his arm, her fingers brushing over the dried blood. “ At least let me clean this up. You need — ”

“ No time. ” He pulled away. “ I can’t sit here while my warriors suffer. ”

Before she could argue, he turned and strode toward the other wounded fighters, leaving her standing there, fists clenched, frustration simmering beneath her skin.

She wanted to scream.

Instead, she threw herself into work. As Luna, she had a duty to care for her people.

Her heart arched, as the warriors groaned in pain. She helped some of the physicians to tend to the wounded warriors.

For how long will they keep fighting without the support of allies?

Rylan was wrong. They need allies to stop Ravena and the rogues she's leading to cause chaos.

And she feared he'd realize it too late.

Bending over a cot, she dipped a towel in a bowl of water. And began washing off blood from a warrior's face.

The warrior winced in pain.

And she flashed him a comforting smile. “Just a little moment, you'll be fine.”

That night, Selene returned home exhausted. She forced herself into the routine — preparing dinner, setting the table, waiting for Rylan.

But he never came.

Her phone buzzed on the counter. She snatched it up, eyes scanning the message.

Rylan: Not coming home tonight.

Selene’s jaw tensed. She called him.

He picked up after the third ring. “ What? ”

Her chest tensed at his tone. “ You’re not coming back? ”

“ I have things to handle. ”

She pressed her fingers against the counter, forcing herself to stay calm. “ Rylan, you’re still injured. You need rest. ”

“ I’ll be fine. ”

His dismissiveness made her grip the phone harder. “ Where are you? ”

Silence.

“ Rylan — ”

“ Go to bed, Selene. ”

Then the line went dead.

Selene stood there, staring at her phone, anger curling  in her gut.

She wanted to throw something.

After everything that had happened today, after everything they had argued about — he wouldn't even talk to her?

She tossed the phone onto the table, rubbing her temples.

And then — she remembered.

Kieran's message.

Hours ago , she had ignored it. But now, it lingered in her mind like a whisper

She hesitated, fingers hovering over her phone.

Kieran had once been a close friend. Before Rylan, before she became Luna, before politics and power made them enemies.

Rylan had demanded she sever ties with him, and she had. But Kieran had never truly let go.

She opened the message.

Kieran:We need to talk. Alone.

Her pulse pounded.

This was reckless. Dangerous.

But Rylan had dismissed her. Ignored her. He refused to listen to her.

Selene clenched her jaw.

Would one meeting really be a betrayal?

She exhaled, staring at the screen.

Her thumb hovered over the call button.

Should she?

Or should she listen to Rylan and let it go?

The choice lingered in the air, heavy, suffocating.

And then —

The phone buzzed again, a second message from Kieran: Time is running out.

Tristan's brow furrowed as he leaned closer. "What could that be?" his voice was laced with concern.Alpha Rylan began to pace the length of the waiting room in the clinic while Tristan watched every step he took keenly.Tristan's forehead was creased in deep lines. Waiting anxiously for him to speak. "Alpha, you're not saying anything. You're getting me worried. You can always tell me whatever it is," he pressed on.Rylan stopped pacing and then he let out a deep breath. "It's about Selene," he muttered."Selene?" Tristan's eyes widened in surprise. "I thought you had gotten over her. Come on man, it's been months since her death. And here you are feeling sad.""You don't get it," he said through gritted teeth. "Selene and Alpha Kieran committed an offence. Why was Selene punished and Kieran left alone like he was innocent?"Tristan shrugged. " I don't know." Then he rolled his eyes. "Why are you being so dramatic? Fine, I understand that you do not like Alpha Kieran. I may not have

Alpha Rylan narrowed his eyes to slits. "What do you mean?" He asked, his voice laced with curiosity.Kieran stood abruptly, the chair scraping harshly against the floor. A knowing smirk played on his lips as he exhaled slowly. "I am not the enemy," he said, looking sideways as if expecting someone to appear. "Just make sure you are not fighting the wrong person." With that, he turned and walked away. Leaving a trail of tension in his wake. For a moment he was startled by Kieran's words. He watched intently at the retreating figure of Kieran. He wanted to call him back and demand an explanation because he sounded vague, with no real details. And what does he mean by them being pawns in Vulcan's twisted games? The more he tried to understand the situation, the more confused he became, as if he were lost in a maze, trying to come out.The large hall was empty. The room was gripped in silence as none of them could dare challenge him further. Vulcan was a dangerous man who shouldn't be questioned.Rylan knew it was a futile attempt to object to his orders. All eleven packs were struggling to survive. It's been a hard time for them all. Their resources were dwindling because they spent heavily on acquiring weapons to fight the rogues led by Luna Ravena. They were yet to recover from it A few months ago, when Ravena was still alive, she burned down some of their storehouses, which contributed to their heavy loss.In his pack, he lost prominent warriors to Ravena's attack, and three of their storehouses were burned to the ground. They had to survive by trading with other packs. But he had to say something. " Elder Vulcan," Alpha Rylan stood up. "I understand that you've been of great help to us all over the years. You were able to destroy our common enemy, Luna Ravena. I deeply appreciate your efforts. But what you're asking from us is too mu

Alpha Rylan's eyes burned with anger, and he could not contain the shimmering rage beneath him. He balled his hands into tight fists and slammed them hard on the wooden table. All the Alphas shifted their attention to Rylan, and Vulcan raised an eyebrow almost touching his hairline. The atmosphere in the room became tense and filled with animosity."I know you're a lowlife with no morals," Alpha Rylan hissed. "But the least you could do, Kieran, is to apologize for your lateness."Alpha Kieran's face became a tight frown, and then with a smug expression on his face, he glared at Rylan. "Why are you so worked up? You owe no right to dictate to me!"Rylan felt a surge of rage within him. Instantly, he shot up from his chair, pushing it backward forcefully which made a scratching sound on the cold floor. He pointed his index finger at him, his eyes flashing in anger. "You bastard. If it were left for me, you wouldn't be allowed in here after everything you did to Selene!"Kieran sprang

When Alpha Rylan rode into the pack centre that afternoon, the sun was high in the sky and bathed the land in long golden rays. A few nearby villagers took notice when his horse’s hooves clattered on the stone walkway. Immediately after he dismounted, a young boy approached him, firmly grasped the reins, and bowed respectfully to Rylan. Rylan gave the boy a quick nod and said, “ Thank you.” Before making his way to the council hall. Unlike most of the time, he was late for the meeting. He never wasted time. He was always the first to arrive and was a disciplined man. But today did not go according to plan. Tristan had kept him waiting and the unexpected appearance of the wounded wolf in the pack had also caused him to be late. He had lost valuable time because of the delay. For a moment he thought about the wounded wolf again. Although the wolf’s wounds had been treated, they would take time to heal because he had barely survived the attack. He had to know who had attacked the w

  • THE FORSAKEN LUNA; Moonfire Reborn   Chapter 123; Danger Looms

In a large plush chair, Selene sat. It was a dark wood chair with a plush green cushion. It was pleasant to sit there. She was holding an ancient book. The pages of the thick book felt rough to the touch. It was a law book. This book contained a lot of regulations. The words were difficult for Selene to read. She was curious about the operations of the wolf pack. She was curious about all the guidelines that kept them secure and resilient. It was peaceful in the study room. The room was filled with tall bookcases. They were crammed with books. Some books were large while others were small. Some had vibrant covers, while others had faded, ancient-looking covers. The study's air had the scent of fresh wood and old paper. A small amount of sunlight entered through the tall window. On the wooden floor, it formed a small square. Tiny dust particles danced in the air. She couldn't help but feel a deep sense of satisfaction with the event of the previous night. The ritual was successfu
