CHAPTER 4

Amari's Point of View

"Hey, Fleur. Don't you remember me?"

I wonder who this man is in front of me. He ran his fingers through his hair. I remained stunned by him. He laughed, which caused his dimples to appear on his right cheek. And because of that, it registered in my memory who he was.

"Klaus Devera?"

I surprisingly asked. Klaus's smile grew wider.

"The one and only"

Klaus jokingly replied. I remained silent, and he chuckled once again.

"How are you, Fleur?"

Klaus added and smiled at me.

"I'm fine, you? How are you?"

I replied after I recovered from being astounded.

"By the way, come in."

I offered. It would not be polite if I didn't invite Klaus inside my unit.

"Is it okay to come in?"

I smiled and nodded to him. I opened the door wide and let him go in first.

"What do you want? Coffee or tea?"

He smiled at me and then looked around my unit. He seemed like a supervisor in how he looked in every part of my hotel unit.

"Is there any coffee?"

He replied while still looking at the entirety of my hotel room. I should have answered his question, but I went directly to the small kitchen of my unit and started making his coffee.

"Fleur"

I turned and looked at Klaus. He was already sitting on the stool. I did not realize he followed because of the thoughts that kept running in my head.

"Do you want anything besides coffee?"

I asked him. As far as I remember, I still have a cake and pizza left over in the mini refrigerator.

"Nothing, coffee is fine."

He answered sparingly. I handed him a cup of coffee. I put mine on the table and sat on the stool opposite to him.

We were both silent while drinking our coffee. I was quiet the whole time, but my mind was in commotion. I was in the middle of my thoughts about what Klaus Devera was doing here in my hotel unit when he suddenly spoke.

"I know you're wondering why I ended up here."

He broke the silence between the two of us. I looked up and smiled at him. I took all my courage to speak to him.

"How did you know that I was here?"

How he knew I was here at the Royal Times Square Hotel is a mystery.

"Did Crisha tell you?"

I added, and he shook his head, which made my forehead crease.

"It was Dad. I asked him. About your hotel unit number, I asked the staff. I'm sorry."

I nodded to him in response. I did not bother to speak anymore. I just waited for him to talk again.

"I'm here in New York because I followed Crisha."

He added.

"Crisha?"

I seriously questioned. Klaus nodded thoughtfully and sighed.

"I have some news that Krishna came here to New York."

He said before taking a sip from his cup of coffee.

"Yes, that is true. Trisha is here, and I have already talked to her. She is also here in the Royal Time Square Hotel."

I told Klaus, and that made his eyebrow raise.

"Do you know Crisha's room number?"

He asked me seriously while staring into my eyes. I felt skittish, so I just smiled and shook my head.

"No. Crisha is the one who visited my unit."

I lied. Yes, I lied to Klaus. I know Crisha's unit is room 408. But I see Klaus with a different disposition, and I feel he should not know where Crisha exactly is.

"Anyway, why did you follow Crisha?"

I asked curiously. Klaus was still looking at me, then smiled.

"I heard that she came here with a man. And I want to know if my suspicions with whom she is with are correct."

He explained. Klaus stared into my eyes like he was trying to snare something from me. I did not take my eyes off Klaus as if we were both in a staring contest.

"Well, as I talked to her, she said she was with her senior designers to watch the Fashion show."

Klaus smiled at me, then averted his eyes at the empty coffee cup.

"Is that so?"

He asked casually. I know how Klaus loves her. He treated Crisha as her little sister since they didn't have siblings. I know how much he protects her.

I remember when I was in middle school and Aunt Lileth brought me to the Philippines. It was my first time visiting that country; I was only thirteen. The first time I saw Crisha and Klaus, they played in a tree house. They let me play with them, too, but since I was new to them, Klaus kept pulling Crisha near him.

I also saw how he terrified the other kids when they tried to bully Crisha. At that moment, I wished for a big brother like him, who is always ready to protect you in any situation and anyone.

"It is good if Crisha is with her seniors. But haven't you seen a man with emerald green eyes with her?"

I paused and wondered if I had seen a man with Crisha that day. But the only thing that came to my mind was the man who owns a  pair of ocean-blue eyes.

I wore a smile on my face and shook my head at Klaus in response. He smiled at me, too, then averted his eyes to his wristwatch.

"By the way, if you are free tomorrow. It would be best if you went to the Fashion show. Crisha will be there with her seniors too."

I suggested it to him but realized I must have invited him wrongly. What if Crisha was with the man that Klaus was referring to? It will surely be a mess, so I pray he doesn't go because I know he is not into that.

"Good idea, Fleur. Thanks"

He uttered while smiling at me. He was about to speak when his phone rang. I can also see the furrowing of his forehead, causing small lines to form on his forehead.

He looked up at me and smiled again. Klaus is handsome. He more often frowned or had that strict vibe on his face, so I used to be nervous to look at him or talk.

"I have to go, Fleur. Thanks for the coffee and for keeping me going."

He said to me that I nodded.

"See you tomorrow? I heard you are one of the models at the event."

I felt sheepish because of that.

"You are welcome. See you tomorrow."

I replied to him.

"Do you want me to walk you to the lobby?"

I suggested it to him. Klaus smiled and nodded in response.

We both stood up from the stool. I put the cups in the sink. I will wash it later when I get back. I grabbed my unit's key and led the way for Klaus.

I was busy scrolling on my phone while Klaus was talking to someone on his phone while we were walking to the elevator. I lift my head and look at room 408. A man was standing in front and knocking on the door. He looked on my way; I was stunned by his emerald-green eyes. I averted my eyes on Klaus, who was too busy on his phone. I looked back at the man standing in front of room 408, but he was gone. I felt an uneasy feeling, but I did not dare to speak. Whatever is happening, I should not interfere, I told myself.

As we reached the elevator, I absentmindedly pressed the button. I was still contemplating if I was doing right if I remained silent with everything I knew and saw.

The elevator opened, Klaus and I stepped in, and I pressed the lobby button. The elevator was closing when I noticed a man looking directly at me. His ocean-blue eyes dazed me; it felt like I was being hypnotized. Later on, I realized that it was familiar to me.

We had already reached the lobby area, and as soon as we got out of the elevator, I noticed a lot of attention on Klaus. Women keep flashing their sweetest smiles at him, but he doesn't seem to care about it.

"Where did you park your car?"

I asked while looking around outside.

"There it is."

Klaus pointed out a black Bentley.

"I am beyond grateful that you accompanied me today, Fleur. I had a great time."

Klaus said while giving me a brilliant smile.

"It is my delight, Klaus. I am pleased that you have enjoyed it."

I replied and gave my sweetest smile to him.

We waved at each other to bid goodbye like we were young. I enjoyed this night being with him. I miss hanging out with him like the old times. Yes, we are not that close, unlike Crisha, but Klaus still hangs out with me.

When I couldn't see the car anymore, I returned to my unit. I felt uncomfortable. It feels like someone is staring at me. I looked around and then averted my eyes to the front desk side of the lobby. From afar, I saw a man staring at me.

I chose to ignore it and just headed back to the elevator. I pressed the button, stepped in, and selected the controller for the fourth flour. While waiting for the elevator to close, I checked my phone momentarily.

I lifted my head when the elevator was slowly closing. But still, before it was closed, a familiar man stood in front of the elevator. He was thoroughly looking at me with those pair of ocean-blue eyes. At that moment, I finally remembered him—he was the man on the plane.
