Rose's POV

I just stood there, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird. My wrist still hurt. Richard grip was intentionally so tight, so I could feel the pain for talking back at him like that. He probably thought I was being a new person so he had to level up his game. What a calculative villian I married.

The Staff were still whispering. People still stood, shocked on what had just happened. I bet they didn't see the whole thing. They must have misinterpreted it. That I slapped my own husband when he was just being so kind and looking out for me.

Suddenly the head lawyer, Mr Harrison, a scum bag who betrayed my father and I. He walked closer to us, his pot belly way too big today, probably full of greed that's why it grew so big. I could feel the heavy judgemental gaze of Mr Harrison as he walked closer.

He stopped just inches from us. His eyes fixed on me. "Rose, Your father's death isn't an excuse to hit your husband!" he barked. "Are you the only one grieving? You can see your husband was torn apart from your father's death. He has been crying, even when Mr Hawthorne's own daughter didn't even shed a single tear!"

I took two steps back from Richard. Leaving him on his knees and walking toward Harrison. "Are you sad about my father's death?" I asked bluntly.

He stood frozen at my confidence. I was sure he had never even seen me in this light. I was always a shy girl hiding in the shadow of her father of her husband. "Are you speaking to me in that tune?" he barked.

This was the right time to learn from my enemies. I curved my lip in a smirk and then the act came....

"Thud!"

I fell on the floor once. Everybody heaved in shock. "I just lost my only parent, my dad......my lovely dad!" I cried out. Mr Harrison was shocked to the extent I was so sure his bones had frozen.

I stepped up my acting and lay flat on the floor. I started rolling from side to side on the cold marble floor. Screaming and crying real wet tears that even made Richard stand up and quit his acting.

"You want me to sign my dad's will, I mean he was just buried two hours ago. Can't you people let me grief my late father!" I kept yelling at the top of my lungs.

The whole room was dead silent. Just my voice echoed. People were probably confused on what the fuck was going on right now. Suddenly I stopped rolling.

And then, I got up to my feet. Dusting off the dirt that clung to my silk gown. "I just cried, Mr.......whatever your name is. Now can you tell from my cries, I was really grieving my father?" I mocked. "You see wet tears in my cheek right, that is pure evidence. But let me tell you something. I whispered, leaning in his ear.Not everything you see on first glance is the whole truth."

"You are listening to this? Forgive her Sir, she is not in her right mind." Richard cut in, as he tried to reclaim his role as a protective husband.

I didn't flinch. I stood tall, my hair messy, sticking to my damp cheeks. "Richard is right about one thing Sir, I am not in my right mind. I now see everyone for who they truly are." I hissed.

I turned toward the stairs, about to take my leave. Then I remembered something. With a deliberate, slow motion, I tilted my head back to everyone.

"Dearest lawyers.....come back next week, I will sign them next week. Let me mourn my father first. Don't be greedy." To be honest, I couldn't sign those papers just yet. Because they were fake, Richard had already teamed up with my dad's lawyers by this time. That was how they took all my dad's wealth from me, bit by bit. They strategically left me penniless. I won't be a victim for the second time.

I clicked my heels toward the stairs, leaving everyone in frightening silence. I am sure they all wondered what exactly had possessed me. I could remember clearly around this time in my previous life, Richard had spread the news that my dad's death had made me insane. At least I should be grateful I came back in time without feeling drugged.

I looked at my wrist. It was already a mess of red colour. Richard had really bruised me in his act, more than ever I need to be ten times smarter than him now. His villain nature was definitely evolving, I should evolve too.

Finally the silence had broke down the stairs. The workers and others were already gossiping loudly. I should start making plans to fire everyone here, before they attack me or worse, kill me.

I walked into my father's room and slumped on his leather chair. The room smelled like old paper and antioxidant. It had been probably wiped clean by the maids. For some reason, I couldn't even cry. I stood up and walked back to the door, I bolted it shut. Not wanting anyone coming in here, this would be my safe space for now.

I sighed heavily. Honestly I was so scared, all that drama I did downstairs I had no choice. I wasn't ready, I wasn't prepared. The hatred that burned in my heart just made me act, I just had to do something, to show them I wasn't that girl anymore. I leaned on the door and slid down slumping on the floor, like a frail leaf falling from a tree as bottled tears finally broke out.

"Daddy! Daddy... I am so scared! I am so scared daddy.... please come back...come back to me..... I am sorry..."

I wailed, and cried loudly on the floor. Banging the cold marble floor with my hands, like it was responsible for my pains. The whole cold girl act from downstairs had crumbled into a little girl who was just scared.

"I want....my daddy back!"

"Give me.....my father back God....pleasee I am scared!" I yelled.

"What exactly was I fighting for if I didn't even have my baby anymore?" I asked loudly.

"I have no family, I have no one........give me back my father!" my cries echoed in my dad's room, my mourning gown soaked with my salty tears.

My face probably red and swollen, my body shook so bad I could feel an intense pain cracking from my bones.

I recalled my past. The moment Katherine stabbed me with that dagger. She didn't just stab me once. She stabbed me again. And then again. And then again.......

FLASHBACK:Rose's POV "Where am I?"My eyes snapped open slowly, the white ceiling, swirling like milk until the edges finally sharpened. The silence in the room was not peaceful, it was pressurized, suffocating vacuum. I felt a pounding headache, that drummed against my skull in a frantic rhythm. I was weak, I felt incredibly fragile, like a glass doll that could shatter at any touch.I lay perfectly still, my breath shallow listening. I was trying to remember the last thing that happened and how I ended up in an unfamiliar room.Beep... Beep...Beep.The faint sound of a heart monitor nearby confirmed my worse fear. I wasn't in the house. This was definitely a hospital.I tried to move my hand to my head, but a sharp tug stopped me. My wrist was strapped to the bed with a thick leather restraint. Panic erupted in my throat, hot and frantic. I tried to pull away, but my muscles were weak and useless. Then my memories all came running to me. Richard was with a nurse in my room, the ho

FLASHBACK; Rose's POV I felt it. The sting was immediate, blinding and absolute. I had just been hit by my husband again. This was not the first time. Nor the second. I honestly can't count how many times I had been hit in my own father's mansion. You know, it wasn't just the physician pain of Richard's open palm colliding with my cheek. It was the utter humiliation of it. I stumbled backward, my shoulder hitting the door frame of the guest bedroom. I didn't fall, but I felt the world tilt violently on its axis."How dare you question me?" Richard's voice was a low growl, vibrating with an intoxicating mix of rage. He stood over me, his chest heaving, his face flushed not with guilt, but with the indignation of a man who believed he was invisible.I held my cheek, my eyes stinging with hot tears that were a mix of pain and sadness. Moments ago, I had walked into our room looking for my husband. Instead, I found him on top my best friend in our own matrimonial bed. My next move was

Rose's Pov "If Rose doesn't speak to me, I will be leaving this house now."Derek's voice was deceptively quiet, but it commanded immediate silence in the lounge. "You can speak with me, Derek, it hasn't come to that honestly," I blurted out, my eyes darting to Richard. "Please, everyone. Leave us."Eleanor huffed, looking at me with pure venom, but I couldn't defy Derek's presence. Katherine gave me one last glint of jealousy before leaving the lounge with Eleanor. Richard hesitated, looking from me to Derek, his eyes red with anger. "My wife is pregnant. And she is stressed, she needs to rest now, Sir. I will speak to you on her behalf.""I will speak to Derek myself honey," I blurted out, ignoring Richard's frantic look and statement. "My mouth is working just fine." Richard glared at me, without saying a word he stormed out the lounge. As soon as the heavy door slid shut, the heavy, suffocating atmosphere disappeared replaced by a cold, business like tension."Why are you here,

Rose's POV The air in the lounge was toxic. Richard held the cup against my lips with a grip that felt like iron bands. The metallic tang of the tea steamed up into my nose, a scent that triggered an involuntary shudder through my body. The same scent of the basement, I felt a familiar terror crawling into my skin. My heart hammered against my ribs in a frantic rhythm. I raised my hand up slowly to hold the base of the cup. Finally a thought dropped into my mind. I should just faint right now, that would have been a good idea but what if I got injected with the drug instead. As I closed my eyes, forcing a shaky breath, preparing to tilt the cup not into my mouth, but onto my own dress, in a fake spill. CLICK! CLICK! Heavy clicking of boots stumped on the marble floor behind me. "This place doesn't look bad," a voice interrupted, cold, smooth and devastatingly calm. It was a familiar voice. Richard froze instantly, his eyes brushing past me to see who it was. Richard's mum gas

Rose's Pov The air in the lounge was suffocating me, it was heavy with the scent of lilies and the cup smelled like the metallic tang of drug steaming from it. I have dropped my shopping bags on the floor, holding the cup of tea Richard had given me. I knew damn well what was on it. It wasn't just tea. It was drugged. He was trying to make me a vegetable again."I said, Drink," Richard repeated. The word was soft, almost gentle, which made it a thousand times more terrifying. He took a predatory step forward and I drifted back a little. My mind raced, a frantic animal trapped in a burning cage. I needed a way out of this mess. How did Richard find my location? I had underestimated my enemy once again. If I drank this, I would be completely at their mercy, incapable of fighting, incapable of thinking. If I threw a fit now, it would lead to more issues. I had been already tagged insane by everyone.I needed to be smart about this. The cup of tea slipped from my hand, it smashed on the

Richard's POV "Something is definitely off about her."I shut the heavy oak door of Mr Hawthorne study behind me. The muscles on my face ached from fake constant smiling. I raised my hand to rub my aching face. I had no idea why my dear wife had to always put me through constant pressure. Rose had been acting all wrong these days, was it because of the drugs I gave her? It couldn't be the doctor had told me it would always make her weak and dizzy but this was totally the reverse.I poured a glass of my late father in-law vintage scotch, my hand steady."Useless," I hissed, my eyes fixed on the head of security who stood trembling by the door. "You let my darling wife out of this house without a driver? You let her out in a private cab!" I roared."Sir, Madom Rose...insisted she wanted to go alone," the guard stammered.I took two dangerous steps closer to my guard, and waved him out with a heavy slap across his face. "Why did Hawthorne never teach his child manners?!" I yelled, my v
