Chapter 6: Visitation

Mora felt uncomfortable hearing that from Regan, she stuttered “y…e... I want to speak to you, sir”

Mayor Lycan looked at her pensively, and shrugged “come with me” he told her, and the both of them walked to a shade.

Madam Vanessa was watching the two of them from her room's window, the Agora's family butler was behind her “Ma, this is the lady with Mayor Lycan the other night, should we execute the plan?” he inquired.

Madam Vanessa turned around swiftly and looked at Bass with mixed facial expressions, confusion, indecisiveness, and fear clouding her eyes, Butler Bass was perplexed, he has never seen the weak side of Madam Vanessa.

The most feared woman in District Z, scared of a lowly peasant “Bass, I guess you don't know who the girl is, just let her be” she said in a defeated tone and strode out of the room.

Mora sat nervously in the chair that Mayor Lycan offered, she opened and closed her mouth before she finally spoke, “Mayor Lycan, I am here searching for Philip”.

Mayor Lycan was surprised, he knew Philip doesn't have a sister of her age” Who are to my steward?” he asked her, Mora smiled nervously “he is my boyfriend, after last night, he hasn't returned home, and hi…” she choked on her words, her face filled with grief.

Mayor Lycan witnessing all her facial reactions, was moved “I also haven't seen my steward, I wanted to visit his family but my schedule today gave me no room, what did you say happened to his family?” he inquired.

Mora's eyes teared up “his mother, sister, and brother were all killed” she lamented, tears started rolling down her eyes, Mayor Lycan was angry, he stood on his feet and came over to where Mora is, he comforted her, with his palm patting her back.

Pretty, Mayor Lycan's fiancée stood some meters away from them, she saw their closure, her heart twitched, she clenched her fists, and wanted to confront them, after pacing three steps, she saw the lady's face and the lady's dress.

She froze on her steps “a peasant” she muttered, and turned around, leaving the two of them.

Her bodyguard, Storm, followed her closely “I want you to follow that lady immediately she leaves the mansion, and relay her home address” she instructed Storm, who nodded.

Mayor Lycan had a memory rush, his arms started moving indiscriminately, having flashes of fragmented images of him, fondling a bare breast before he could regain his senses.

Mora has sprung to her feet, and stood some meters away from him, with disappointment registered in her eyes, shivering and holding on to herself, Mayor Lycan felt uncomfortable “I am so…”

Before he could apologize, Mora ran away, he stood there, feeling uncomfortable, while Mora was headed out of the gate, with her bloodshot eyes, Storm trailed behind her.

Arnold got into his car, and drove after her, she was standing outside the Agora's mansion, waiting for a passing taxi, when Arnold pulled over “Miss, get in, let me drive you home” he told her.

Mora shook her head, remembering how she was assaulted by her brother, she couldn't bear having anything to do with the family “thanks, I am waiting for a taxi” she responded timidly, and looked away.

Arnold chuckled and alighted from his car, he thought Mora was acting hard to get “you shouldn't act this way…” before he could coerce her.

Mora scurried away, towards a taxi she has stopped, she got in “go, go” she instructed the driver breathlessly, the driver glanced at Mora and said nothing.

Arnold stood there, watching the moving car helplessly, “wow!” he exclaimed, and drove back home.

Mayor Lycan felt extremely helplessly, he smacked his head several times, and buried his face in his palms, feeling dejected “are you okay, son?” Madam Vanessa asked.

Mayor Lycan raised his head the moment he heard his mother's voice, he looked at her suspiciously “Mother, do you know where my steward is?” he asked, and the question unsettled Madam Vanessa.

She stuttered at first before regaining her composure “I don't” she responded, Mayor Lycan's eyes dimmed “his entire family was assassinated” he informed his mother, before leaving her stunned.

Butler Bass was standing some meters away from there, and he was eavesdropping on their conversation, “Bass, did you do it?” she asked.

“No, ma” he responded, “should we contact Philip, and ask him to return to district Z?” he inquired.

Madam Vanessa thought for some time and responded “no, I think this is the handiwork of the opposition,

to disrupt our unity, make sure, Philip doesn't get to be informed about this, we can't allow a mole in the camp right now”

Butler Bass nodded, and left to carry out the order when Mora returned home, she met with her grandmother, Madam Sarah “My child, what happened to you, are you still feeling unwell?” the old lady asked, wearily.

Mora managed a bitter smile on her face “Mora, I heard from a farmer, that Philip's family were murdered, but we can't protest about it, if we do, the opposition will hijack it, and destroy the goodwill of Mayor Lycan, we can't afford to lose such a good leader, I hope he handles this matter, and give justice to the family”

Mora listened speechlessly to her mother, at the mention of Mayor Lycan's name, she zoned off “Mora, are you listening?” Mama Sarah inquired and tugged at her gown.

Mora regained her senses “ye…s ye.s” she stammered, “mother, what did you ask?” Mama Sarah sighed in resignation, “have you told Philip about it?” she asked.

Mora grabbed her gown and looked at her mother pensively, “I have tried all I could to reach Philip, but all my efforts were futile” she decried.

A knock came at the door, Mora went to get it, she opened the door, and saw a young farmer “Is Mama Sarah in?” he asked, Mora nodded.

The young man got in, “Ten Ten, what is the problem?” Mama Sarah asked the boy.

“The Mayor, came to visit us, he went to the crime scene with the commissioner of police,” he told the mother and child with a big smile on his face.
