~CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY THREE~

"Listen,” he says, voice low, infuriatingly calm, “The bleeding will stop.”

I stare at him like he just told me he scraped his knee.

“Are you listening to yourself?” My voice climbs despite me. “You’re bleeding through your shirt. What happened?”

The tension in the foyer thickens instantly. The staff feel it. One by one, they disappear—a door shutting softly, footsteps retreating.

It’s just us now.

Blake exhales once, like he’s deciding how m

~CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY SIX~ “Go and have a seat, Doctor Philip,” I say. He bows once more and walks carefully toward the side benches prepared for witnesses. The court parts for him in silence. For a brief second, something burns behind my eyes. A tear threatens. I refuse it. Not here and now. My gaze returns to Ravenna, who remains seated on the marble floor, dignity long abandoned. “And you made the King ingest the toxin?” I ask quietly. I shake my head before she can answer. “No. My father already suspected you. He was preparing to expose you. There is no universe in which he would have allowed you close enough to poison him directly.” I step down from the throne again. “You used someone.” My voice sharpens. “Someone you and Prince Albert planted inside the palace.” Ravenna looks up at me. “Bring in Lady Cassia!” I thunder. The grand doors open again. Guards drag a young woman inside. Her hair is disheveled, her composure shattered. She str

~CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY FIVE~ Her knees weaken. “You did not act alone,” I state, no longer asking. “Which means others in this court share your guilt.” My gaze lifts slowly from her trembling form to the nobles seated beyond. “And they will step forward.” The hall is no longer tense. It is suffocating. I turn slowly, scanning the chamber, measuring reactions. Some avoid my eyes. Some look stunned. Some look as if they have already begun calculating their escape. Then my gaze lands on Katherina. She is shaking. Not dramatically. But enough. Her hands grip the armrest of her seat, knuckles pale. She cannot meet my eyes. A slow smirk curves my lips before I look away and return my attention to Ravenna. “Will you save us the time,” I ask calmly, “and tell this court what truly happened?” Ravenna lifts her head. Her composure is shattered now. Her eyes move around the chamber—searching, perhaps for an ally. They stop on Frederick. She looks as t

~CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY FOUR~ I let the silence stretch again before speaking. “Before we proceed,” I say evenly, “let me make something very clear.” My gaze sweeps across the court. “Prince Albert is currently on the run for attempted regicide, conspiracy, and multiple counts of treason.” The words fall like stones. “If any of you are holding onto hope that he will return to defend himself here today, abandon it. He is wanted. And the moment he is found and brought back to this palace, he will face immediate trial for treason.” A stir moves through the chamber—low whispers and quick glances. I watch them carefully. Loyalty reveals itself in moments like this. So does fear. “Ravenna Drakonis.” My voice is steady. “Step forward. Stand in the center of the court.” There is the faintest pause before she rises. Silk brushes against marble as she walks confidently. Not a tremor in her step. She stops exactly where instructed. Her chin is slightly l

~ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY THREE~ I stand alone in the center of my private residence, facing the tall glass panels that reflect my image back at me. The crown sits where it belongs. It has never felt heavier. In my hands are the files, the culmination of decades of deception. My father’s investigation. Crimes hidden beneath silk and ceremony. Prince Albert is still on the run. But his absence will not delay today. He may hide for now, but he will not vanish from this earth. When this court adjourns, I will hunt him down myself if I must. “Nicholas.” He steps forward immediately, composed as always. Holding out a file, he hands it to me. “These contain the remaining documents from yesterday. I managed to save them.” I smile and take it. “And my brothers?” I ask. “Prince Frederick?” “He arrived at dawn, Your Majesty.” “And Prince Blake?” A slight pause. “He will not be attending.” I study Nicholas’ expression, but it does not waver. “He isn’t showing up?” I

~CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY TWO~ The PPO units storm through the palace gates minutes later, armored vehicles cutting across the courtyard as gunfire begins to thin. Their senior officer approaches, kneels briefly, then rises. “My apologies for the delay, my King.” “You’re here now,” I reply, voice steady despite the smoke still clinging to my lungs. “I want at least two of those masked men alive. The rest do not leave this ground breathing.” He nods sharply and signals his men. They advance without hesitation. Half of my security detail pushes forward to reinforce the firefight. The remaining officers close ranks around me. Nicholas stays at my side as we move toward the residence wing, boots striking floors that still tremble from distant shots. One of the security officers rushes toward us, breath uneven. “Your Majesty—Prince Albert escaped. Unknown armed men intercepted our unit and created a diversion.” The words hit like a blade. “No.” My voice turns cold. “I

~CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY ONE~ As I continue cross-referencing the staff records, another detail surfaces—quiet, almost buried. One of the midwives present during my mother’s delivery died mysteriously two weeks later. Cause listed as sudden cardiac arrest. No prior condition. I still. I shift to the timeline surrounding my father’s death. Another anomaly. A palace maid assigned to his private wing, deceased within a week of his passing. Official cause: accident. Minimal inquiry. My jaw tightens. “Record their names,” I tell Nicholas. He does. I set the files aside, separate from the rest. Confusion gives way to restless energy. I begin scanning the vault walls again, slower now, observing structure rather than labels. That is when I notice it. One of the shelving units is slightly misaligned with the others. “Nicholas.” He joins me without question. I press against the side of the shelf; it shifts under resistance. It moves. Together we slide it as

THE SCANDAL I let out a small, disbelieving chuckle as Mia stands in front of me, breathless and wide-eyed, as if she ran from a burning building. “Me?” I ask quietly. “Trending?” My voice sounds flat, distant, like it belongs to someone else. Mia doesn’t answer. Instead, she sho

NO ESCAPE The car keeps moving, snow falling against the windshield like soft ash. I stare at the men’s silhouettes, fury boiling in my throat. The car speeds down a long, silent road, and I sit stiffly between the two royal men, one on each side of me like human walls. My pulse h

WHAT AGAIN ? I step out of the taxi and feel the weight of the night pressing on me, each step toward the apartment like walking through molasses. My legs move, my body functions, but my mind is numb, robotic. I didn’t say a word, since we left the hotel. Inside, the sitting room swallows me w

THE HUNTS BEGINS Back at our apartment in Aurelis, I paced the small living room, phone in hand, irritation burning in my chest. “I’ve sent him over twenty messages,” I snapped. “Twenty, Mia. And not one—not one—has he even opened.” Mia barely looked up from her laptop. “Mel, he’s a king with
