Hunter’s POV

Wrapping her in the towel, as I tried to control my wolf. Emily was so beautiful, all of her. Innocent and humbled. Why my wolf stirred beats me. After all, she is human, but I think having so many humans, we have lost what a wolf should feel—his mate. I felt so attracted to her, and I wondered how she saw me.

Her long, light brown hair was tangled. As I pulled, she gasped. Guilt twisted my stomach.

She turns to me, her eyes feline, green as spring leaves. I never tire of looking at them. She must have questions, and she's probably terrified. I feel the tension between us; she’s unsure whether to run or stay, but chooses to linger. I lean in and wait, and after a moment she leans too, trusting me for now. I kiss her. Her lips taste sweet, like wild strawberries. I want more, but I have to go slow, or I’ll scare her.

Let's eat. I'll introduce you to the pack. You're with me; no one will dare touch you.

She looked up at me, curiosity in her voice. "So, you're the lead of the pack?"

I’m the alpha of the pack, yes. I took her hand, and we walked to the main dining area. Most of the ranks were there. I lifted my hand, and then there was silence.

This is Emily, my mate, yes, she is human. She will be my luna, and no one, I mean, no one will disrespect her or touch her. I will mark her, so we don’t have misunderstandings. Marking means leaving my scent and a small symbol on her skin, a sign the whole pack can sense, binding us together both physically and spiritually. After that, everyone will know she belongs with me.

They gasped. Will you mark a human? A younger man said, approaching him.

I growled, "Kaden, yes. Have a problem with that?" Emily hid behind me, well, most of her body.

No, brother, of course not, I’m happy for you. She smells good, he said, chuckling.

"Remember your place, brother," I told him. "You should’ve been on the mission you were sent."

Oh, I was busy breeding, but I’m leaving now.

I glanced at a woman. "You, bring us food, please."

Yes, alpha, then she turned and walked through the kitchen door.

Emily’s POV

Seeing so many wolves, the reality hit me. I will be dead before I even try to escape. I liked Hunter; I felt warm when he kissed me. He smells so good, and his eyes look at me kindly.

The man he calls his brother walks closer to us, and I feel a chill down my spine, bad man. I always trusted my gut feeling. That was the first word that came to mind. Bad. Dark soul. He looked different than Hunter. He was lighter-haired and short, with black eyes that looked scary, and I sensed rivalry.

His eyes flicked to Hunter, something sharp behind his smile. Tension filled the space between them without a word. They dared each other to move first, a grudge, old fights, unsaid words. I wondered whether Hunter distrusted him or vice versa. The air chilled whenever his brother was near, and Hunter stiffened beside me.

But who was I to question it?

I want to know what marking means. Do I get a number? Like alpha two? Oh, maybe he has other women, since breeding is so important. I don’t think I would like that, him touching someone else.

Why do I care? I sighed. I do care, and I’m stuck here now.

We walk to the table, and I don’t want to let go of his hand. He smiles at me, and I smile back, then he touches my face softly.

The ones at the table stared. My hands shook. I dropped them in my lap. He lifted my right hand and kissed it. "Eat, now! Or I will feed you."

I shook my head and picked up the spoon. It tasted good, and I wanted more, but I was afraid to ask. As he sensed it, he handed me his bowl, half-eaten. You need more nutrition. What have you been eating?

Herbs and canned food, but I ran out, and I was going to hunt.

Can you hunt? One of the men across from me asked.

And fish, but I haven’t seen a river, yet I tell him excitedly.

He added, "She won’t be hunting, Bernie, unless she is with me." Then I smiled.

Thank you for the food, it was so good. I hope you won’t be hungry since I ate yours.

He laughed. I loved his laugh, natural, it lit up his face and eyes. I won’t, he said. Now get up, I will give you a tour and go over the rules. Memorize them, or you get punished.

We walked outside, and I tried to keep up with his big strides, mostly running. Here are the rules: one, and the most important, never lie to me, no matter how painful the truth will be.

Stay in the pack; you’re safe. Never go out without the guard. I will find a simple job for you…

No, I want to contribute to the food, so no special treatment, I tell him. He stops. I bump into his chest, lose my balance. He catches me and holds me close.

He sighs. Emily, look at me.

I look up at him. I’m sorry, I wasn’t paying attention.

I’m not mad you bumped into me. I’m mad you think you’ll work. Remember who’s in charge.

You are, I say to him. Sorry, I will follow your rules.

Good girl, then he places a small kiss on my lips. I close my eyes.

When I open them, he smiles. Can I ask you something personal?

Yes, I say as my brows furrow. I’m thinking, how personal?

Who raised you? Where do you come from? He chuckled. So many questions, sorry.

I don’t remember that part of my childhood, actually, nothing. I was fifteen when a group of women took me in.

They told me I was in a small coma for two weeks, and I was delirious; they thought I would die. Then one day I opened my eyes and had no idea who I was. They named me Emily. But sometimes, I remember the strangest things: a sharp scent that isn't from this world, the feeling of running through the forest fast and wild, the echo of a howl on the edge of sleep. None of it makes sense, and maybe it's just dreams, but it feels real—like a piece of my real story is just out of reach.

Interesting, he said. We will talk more tonight, before we sleep.

We? I sleep in your bed? Hunter?

  • THE LAST PACK   Fated mate

Emily’s POVLife moved on, and for the next few weeks, no one said anything. Hunter and I had a normal, whatever normal meant, life.I kissed him before I left to do the chores, as the guard, Nolan, always followed me. His grandfather was coming towards us.Emily dear, how are you?I’m great, thank you, sir, I said, smiling. Can you give us a minute, he told Nolan. He waited until he was far enough, then turned back to me. I know Kaden is an instigator, and you need to fear him. He holds a lot of sway in the pack, and there are too many who follow him. He envies Hunter and hates that you make him weak in their eyes. I’ve seen him stir up trouble before getting what he wants, and I worry about what he might do next. I’m afraid for Hunter and the future of the pack. Don’t give up on him. He touched my face gently. I know he loves you. Now go on, have a good day.Thank you, sir, I said, and continued walking towards the chicken coup.By midday, I was ready to have lunch. I walked into th

  • THE LAST PACK   It's a beautiful day

Emily’s POVOne month has passed, and I finally got into a routine, not with Hunter but with the work and chores.Hunter looks at me like I am the only girl in this broken world. I am so in love with him, and sometimes I feel scared to be happy. I wondered how my life was before, but the memories are gone, lost behind a wall I can't climb. All I have are nightmares. Every time I close my eyes, I see flashes, a dark, ragged forest, the heavy breath of a man chasing me, branches tearing at my skin as I run. I tumbled down a steep mountain, fear clawing at my insides, his voice echoing behind me. I never remember his face, just that sense of terror and falling. I wake up shaking, trapped between my old life and this uncertain peace.Hunter said that sometimes a scent or a keyword might bring back memories. Today I’m standing in the grain field, picking some red poppy flowers. I placed one behind my ear. I walked almost to the end, and I heard voices arguing. I ducked on the ground and cr

  • THE LAST PACK   Future mate

Hunter’s POVI see the herbs in her hand, and she turns to see my angry face. You broke the rules, Emily. Come here. No, I did not, she said defiantly. Jalen took me. You said I couldn’t go alone. There I wasn’t alone.I didn’t want anyone to touch her. It was strange to feel this level of possessiveness over a human. I tried to tell myself it was just because I cared, but it went deeper, clawing at me from the inside. There was something about Emily that called to instincts I barely understood, like my wolf recognized her as his and wouldn’t let go. The bond between us felt like a string pulled tight, urging me to keep her close, protect her, claim her. Emily was mine. Now, can I go to the kitchen and boil them? No, get in bed. Now!She took off her shoes and her pants, got into bed, folded her arms, and lay on the pillow.I wanted to laugh at her reaction. You’re not being fair, Hunter. I got them for you.Emily, this is not a joke. I’m just scared that someone might hurt you. Then

  • THE LAST PACK   Human girl

Hunter’s POVMy eyelids were so heavy they felt glued shut, weighed down by sleep and something thicker, as if I was sinking in a warm fog. Slowly, I forced them open. The light in the room was soft, but still it made my eyes sting. It took a while for everything to come into focus: the scratch of the rough sheets under my hands, the low hum of someone breathing nearby, and a faint, sharp, herbal scent in the air.As I turned my head, I saw Emily half lying on my arm and Jalen sleeping in the armchair. Two people in my life care for me.Emily, I whispered. Her head snapped up, and she looked so cute with her hair all messed up.Hunter, she jumped on my neck, kissing my cheek. I’m so happy you’re okay."What happened?" I asked. You were poisoned. Emily glanced at the dart resting on the nightstand, worry etched in her face. "I recognized the toxin," she said softly. "Once I knew what it was, I made you drink something from that old diary to try and counter it." She paused, voice quiver

  • THE LAST PACK   Mine

Hunter’s POVI look at her beautiful face, and of course, I want her and mark her. But does she want me?Hunter, her hands cupping my face, I want this…her lips kissing mine softly. I growl, and I don’t know why; my wolf is acting fucking weird.I yank her shirt off, her beautiful breasts just my hand size, perfect, like her. My tongue teasing her nipple, and she lets out a moan, her hand touching my back softly. I love her touch.I kiss her body slowly and take her panties off, move her legs apart, and I run my tongue over her pussy, and she wiggles, her hand touching my head. I play with her clit for a bit, and I feel her body tensing, and she trembles. I nibble her inner thigh as I come over her, my cock is at her entrance, and I push in.She let out a small cry, and I tried to distract her, kissing her. I started to move, and her hips moved with me.My hand grabs her breast, and my mouth takes it. She screams my name as she shatters, and her hands grasp my shoulders. Then, I relea

  • THE LAST PACK   Who is he?

Emily’s POVI listened to all the rules as we walked together, our footsteps crunching over gravel and dry leaves. The sky faded from gold to deep purple, casting long shadows over the worn path. A cool, earthy smell lingered in the air, mixed with the faint tang of pine and woodsmoke blowing from somewhere nearby. Crickets started to chirp in the tall grass, and every so often, I caught the distant howl of something wild, echoing through the woods. He showed me the main places he wanted me to know, pointing out the kitchen with its rows of battered pots, the well with its creaking handle, and the shed that smelled faintly of oil and hay. It was getting dark.Hunter, I said, walking behind him. Why me? Besides the obvious breeding problem. He stopped. Took my hand. Let’s have dinner, and we will talk before bedtime.Dinner was good; it was the first time in a long while that I felt full. My stomach didn’t growl. He took me back to the bedroom, and he started to undress. I turned." Yo
