LOGINLacy’s POV
Despite myself, I chuckled.
He had to be kidding and what a cruel joke it was to tell to someone that was already despondent.
But those penetrating blonde eyes remained on me, the intensity of their gaze forcing me to focus on them and dispel the thought that this was some joke.
“I wonder which is sadder? The fact that you want to kill your innocent babies or the fact that you look more hopeless instead of hopeful now you know they exist.”
A gasp escaped my throat as I stared at him, “No,” the words left my trembling lips and instinctively, my hands went to my womb.
This could not be, I could not be pregnant, that was nonsense, he was just pulling my legs, I could not be pregnant.
The more I tried to convince myself that he was lying, the more it became apparent that he wasn’t. I felt a warmth in my womb, Kira my wolf was speaking to me, a sudden need to back away from the cliff gripped me.
I staggered backwards.
“Atta girl,” he said.
The soft droplets of rain continued to fall down and there was another long streak of lightning following by a deafening thunder clap.
I fell on my ass, my hands still clutching my belly, complete hopelessness on my face. A few minutes ago, I wanted to end it all, I could not bear the shame and pain that I felt.
But finding out that I was pregnant and not just that, with triplets, the sudden urge to survive had become overpowering.
Suddenly, he burst out laughing.
I could not help but look at him, there was something harsh and mocking about the way he laughed, it felt like he was laughing at me.
“What?” I couldn’t help but ask.
A smile remained in his eyes as he locked them on me again, “What a cruel world we live in… the father of your kids is having a great time with another woman and here you are, trying to kill yourself and your children.”
His words hit me hard and my gaze narrowed as another darting pain cut across my heart. I sniffled as I sat there on the floor, a feeling of helpless rage gripping me.
“Is that not a damn shame?” he crossed his hands and stared at me, waiting for a response.
I could not bring myself to say anything, I just sat there, shaking in anger.
Alpha Rafael had cast me out without regard for what we had, he picked that white witch over me! Over our kids! How could he?
“So… what are you going to about it?” he probed further, not seeming to mind my emotional state at all.
I ignored his question, I was too caught up in my own thoughts to even consider what he was saying.
What was I going to do? How was I going to survive out here on my own, talk more about surviving and raising three babies?
“Well, guess, I will leave you to figure things out,” he said and jumped down from where he was seating.
I was just now realizing how tall he was as he towered above me, “Goodluck,” he said and turned to go.
Something primal within me pushed me forward and before I knew what was happening, I was holding onto his legs, “Please, please, don’t leave me too,” I cried.
I was completely on my own right now, I knew no one, I knew nothing, there was no way I could survive on my own, talk more of raising three babies, it was impossible.
I knew I had no right to ask this stranger for help but there was nothing else that I could do about it, I needed help, any help.
He stopped and looked down at me, his blonde eyes locked on mine again then a warm smile broke out on his face as he leaned back down, “I thought you would never ask,” he replied.
He reached out his hand and I took it, then he pulled me to my feet with no difficulty.
“What are you going to do about the father?” he asked.
My body shook again at the mention of that, as the rain beat down softly on me, I gnashed my teeth and stared off in the distance, “I swear it, I will make him pay tenfold for what he did to me.”
A vicious clap of thunder roared, almost as if the very skies themselves supported my vow.
In the streak of lightning that flashed next, I saw something dark and dangerous behind those blonde eyes but I didn’t mind if I was holding hands with the devil himself, if he was going to help me, then I would gladly accept his help.
“These woods are no place for an expectant mother, come” he said.
I wordlessly took his hand as he began to lead me.
“What is your name?” he finally asked after we walked in silence awhile.
“Lacy… Lacy Cage.”
“Well, Lacy… if you really mean the vow you made back then then you have joined hands with the one person in the five kingdoms that could actually grant you your heart desire.”
I just stared at him as we walked, I had no idea what he was saying, who was this man to be making such a claim?
We came to a dirt road and then he reached into his pocket and took out a car key and pressed the unlock button.
A dark Jaguar beeped softly as the blinkers flicked on and off.
“Get in,” he said as he went over to the driver’s side.
I just stood there, rooted to the floor.
Something told me that the moment I entered into that vehicle, I would be leaving everything that I knew behind and there would be no going back.
The purr of the horn snapped me out of my reverie and I hastened forward and got into car.
The feel of the warm air and the soft leather was a welcome change from the cold wind and soft rain outside.
“Don’t worry about a thing,” he said, “I am going to take care of you from now on.”
Lacy’s POVI clutched the portfolio tight as I waltzed inside the corporate office of Vice Corp, a determined look on my face.As much as I didn’t want to work for alpha Rafael, it still stung to be thrown off the case under the guise of incompetence and watch the case get given to none other than Cassie.I was certain that the leak did not come from me, I was angry that Hans would even accuse me of such and I was going to put that anger to good use.I exited the elevator on the penthouse floor and walked into a conference room. On the other side of the long oval table, was the CEO of Vice Corp and his lawyer, a woman by the name of Felicia.“What is the meaning of this?” Felicia said standing up as soon as I walked in.“Sit down, Felicia,” I said in a no-nonsense tone. I settled into the chair opposite them and slammed the portfolio on the table dramatically.“Do you know what this is?” I asked the CEO directly. He remained silent and looked to Felicia.“My client only took the meetin
Rafael’s POVI hadn’t seen that evil son of a bitch, Blaine in over a year and the very sight of him brought back memories that I didn’t care to relive.I rested back in my chair and drummed on the class tables with my steel-like nails. The door hissed opened softly and my secretary poked her head in, “Sir, you said to inform you, if and when the lawyer from Raymond, Hans and Grover gets here.”“Send her up,” I said without looking at Stacy. It looked to me like Lacy was doing everything possible to end our interaction as soon as possible, she had gone through the old by-laws and drafted a new one so quickly and now, I was sure she was here with the updated laws that needed to be signed by myself and the rest of the board. It didn’t matter anyway, try as she would, I would not let her escape me.“Mr. Ferro, it is a pleasure to meet you,” a light and unrecognized voice spoke from the doorway. That was not Lacy.I pressed the intercom button, “Stacy… Why is there a stray at my door?”I
Lacy’s POVI was still unsettled about how Blaine darted out of my house like a bat out of hell when the phone began ringing frantically. A lot was already going on and the last thing on my mind was picking up the damn landline and answering it.Ani did, “Hello?” she listened for a few seconds then took the receiver from her ear and muffled it, “Ms. Cage, it is for you.”“Tell them I am not around,” I said dismissively and turned to go.“Uhm…” she hesitated, “I think it is important.”I sighed in irritation and moved towards the phone, she handed it to me.“Hello?”“Finally, Lacy…” Cassie’s chopped voice sounded on the other end, “Where the hell have you been?”My grip tightened around the phone and I frowned, “I don’t have time for your–”“Get your ass into the office now!” she commanded.“Excuse you?” I fired back, raising my tone and then instinctively looking around to ensure the kids were not within earshot.“There is a very angry man in your office, demanding to tear the whole
Blaine’s POVI thrust both hands into my pockets and regarded Rafael with a causal but dangerous stare, “Fancy meeting you here.”“Again, that is none of your business,” he fired back. “Can’t say it was a pleasure meeting you here,” he made to get into the black Cadillac that was waiting.“Does your luna know about the pretty lady you just had a meeting with?” I smiled wickedly. He paused half way and then turned to face me fully, the red in his eyes were on fire now, “Careful, Blaine.”I regarded him with an unfazed look, “Pale skin, blonde hair? Isn’t that not exactly what your luna looks like? Or am I misremembering?”Rafael gripped the side of the door and I heard the metal creak and yield under the pressure of his grip, “What are you implying?”I pursed my lips, “Me? I am not implying anything, barely making an observation,” I smiled and walked up to him, “Next time you come to New York, do your due diligence and report to me. You don’t want the other alphas knowing that you are
Rafael’s POVLacy looked like a terrified kid at the principals’ office.I stared at the half empty bottle of Don Jave on the table, “I can see that you started before me,” I remarked. She remained rigid in her seat and then mechanically brought forth the brief that she was holding and handed it to me.I just sat there and stared at her, not making any attempt to take it off her hands, “Did they not teach you anything at law school?” I sneered.“Ehem,” she cleared her throat and slowly retracted her hand, “Sorry,” she forced a smile. My gaze had not left her, I was watching everything, every slight motion and action, I knew she was aware of this but I didn’t care.“Here you go, sir,” the waiter said and laid a plate in front of me. “Here you go, ma’am,” he repeated and served Lacy’s lunch.“Thank you,” she said and flashed him what appeared to be a genuine smile.I sneered, what? The bellhop gets a real smile and I get nothing of the sort?“The sooner, you finish your meal, the soone
Lacy’s POV“Just don’t do anything that will make him suspicious of anything,” I kept muttering to myself as I drove back.Blaine was right, so far as I showed up to the pack before a fourth night, all should be fine, I will not give him any reason to come after me. I will play it cool.“Play it cool, Lacy,” I muttered to myself as I pulled back into my driveway.Ani was seating on the front porch and got up as soon as I opened the door.“Ms. Cage.”“Hey Ani, I am so sorry, I should have informed you that I was going to be running late.”She smiled, “It alright, is everything okay?”“What? Yeah… everything is just fine,” I even felt nervous talking to Ani, my freaking babysitter, how was I supposed to face that monster?Ani did not look convinced, “Well, good night, Ms. Cage.” “Wait, hold up... what do you think about a vacation?”She scoffed in surprise, “What?”“I think it is about time, how would you like to take the kids on a vacation?”She opened her mouth but no words came out.
