The shrill alarm tears through the packhouse, and I’m already halfway out the door before it finishes its first ring. My wolf pushes against my control, his instincts urging me to shift, but I hold him back. Not yet. I cast a sharp glance over my shoulder at Louisa, who’s frozen, her children clinging to her sides like frightened shadows. “Stay here,” I snap, my tone leaving no room for argument. “Don’t move. Keep them close.” Her eyes narrow at me, blazing with defiance. “What’s going on?” “Stay here,” I order before rushing out. I slam the door behind me before she can fire back, my mind already reaching out through the link to my warriors. The rush of panicked voices hits me like a wave. “Intruders at the northern border.” “No forewarning.” “Seems like a pack.” Then, through the noise, one phrase cuts through like a knife. “Alpha, movement near the northern border!” “We think it’s rogues-” “No confirmation yet-” “Calm the fuck down,” I snarl through the link, silencing the chaos. “Beta, report!” Mark’s voice comes through clearly, steady and clipped. “Alpha, I’m on my way to you now. We have identified the intruders. Alpha Gaines and his warriors, they are here.” I stop mid-stride, a growl rumbling low in my throat. “What the hell does he want?” “No idea,” Mark replies. “They are stationed at the northern border. Doesn’t look like an attack… yet. They are just… waiting” I bite back a curse. Great! Just fucking great The last thing I need on my plate is a temper tantrum from that overgrown manchild. Gaines never shows up without a reason, and it’s never good. I mind-link the warriors. “Everyone on shift to the northern border. Now. I want this contained before it becomes a goddamn spectacle.” Or before Louisa gets wind of it After all, she belonged to his pack. “Maybe he is here for her,” my wolf whispers to me. “Why would he be?” I reply. “He doesn't strike me as someone who is really concerned about rogues, even if they belonged to his pack before.” “I guess we will see soon.” I guess so. As I move through the halls, pack members scatter out of my way, their faces pale with fear and confusion. No one Absolutely no one has ever dared to come on my lands without permission and then this bastard dared it. I have half a mind to just rip into him once and for all. The alarm continues to blare, as Mark falls into step beside me just as I step outside. “What do you think his angle is this time?” he asks, his tone sharp. “I don’t know,” I mutter. “But he had the audacity to show up here without permission, which means he must have a good reason. Or at least, what he thinks is a good reason. I am guessing it’s another one of his pathetic attempts at a power play.” Mark scoffs. “The man’s obsessed with you.” “Obsessed with himself,” I correct. “I’m just the unfortunate target of his delusions.” It’s true. Gaines has been a thorn in my side for years, constantly trying to prove himself superior. It’s laughable, really, how desperate he is for my attention. And it just makes him all the more angrier that I do not respond to his antics. “You don't think…” Mark begins before he falls quiet. “Spit it out Mark,” I mutter. “Well, it's just quite coincidental, isn't it?” He begins. “What is?” I ask even though I have an idea where he is going with this. “Louisa, a former member of his pack, shows up here and not too long after, so does he.” “So?” “Do you think they planned it?” “What?!” I ask, coming to a halt. “Well… maybe they planned it together to give him a reason to pick a fight with you.” “That doesn't even make sense. She has been a rogue for years, and from what Tammy told us, she wasn't exactly on good terms with her pack. Why would she work with him now?” “I don't know man… it just feels suspicious. Why would he come now?” “I guess we are about to find out.” By the time we reach the northern border, my warriors are already in formation, a wall of muscle and claws ready to defend our land. And across the clearing is Gaines and his men, a smaller group but no less threatening. An insane dog still has claws, after all. As soon as he sees me, he steps forward, his smirk as infuriating as ever while his warriors bristle behind him, their eyes glinting with challenge. “Gaines,” I call out, my voice cold and commanding. “What the hell are you doing on my territory?” He spreads his arms wide, as if welcoming me to some grand event. “Travis,” he says smoothly, like we’re old friends. “It’s been too long.” “Not long enough,” I snap. “Get to the point. Why are you here?” His smirk deepens, and my wolf growls, pacing beneath my skin. “I am here for my Luna,” he says, his tone casual, as if the words mean nothing. What?! I blink, thrown for a moment. “Your Luna?” I repeat. “Have you finally lost it? As far as I know, and the rest of the werewolf community knows, your Luna died twenty years ago. Reportedly by your own hand.” He growls at that before he gets himself under control and puts a weird smile on his face. “Not my former Luna, Travis” he corrects, his voice laced with condescension. “My new Luna.” My brows furrow. “I don’t know what game you are playing, Gaines, but I don’t have your Luna.” “Oh, I think you do,” he says, taking a step closer making his warriors tense, and mine mirror the movement. The air is electric with tension, one wrong move away from chaos. I glare at him, my patience hanging by a thread. “If you have something to say, say it.” He tilts his head, his smirk twisting into something darker. “I am talking about Louisa,” he says, his voice ringing with smug certainty. “She’s my Luna now.” The words hit me like a blow, and for a split second, I’m frozen. My wolf snarls, the urge to tear him apart surging through me, but I force it down. “Louisa,” I repeat, my voice low and dangerous. “Yes,” Gaines says, clearly enjoying himself. “She belongs to me. Now… turn her over.” AUTHOR NOTES: Hello, my wonderful readers. A huge and gigantic thank you for selecting my book to read. It really warms my werewolf heart. So, please do comment and support my book. Your dear Author, Adeline ValoisLOUISA “You don't know what you are doing…” he begins. “I won't let you.”“I, Louisa Stone…”“SHUT UP!”“...a rogue by choice,” I continue, ignoring his screams.“I SAID SHUT UP GIRL! DO YOU HEAR ME!” he snarls as he launches himself at me but Travis is faster. He grabs him by the arms and locks them behind his back.“Continue,” Travis tells me.“...stand here, before the goddess and witnesses. I call on all to witness my choice, swine never to regret. I remove my ties to the Roarke Family. I remove their authority over me. As of today, I stand apart from them. Never to acknowledge them as blood.”“Lou,” my mother whines as a blue line glows between her, me, and my dad. It glows and glows, so bright that we all have to shield our eyes from it and then… it snaps. It is done.“YOU FUCKING BITCH!” My father roars as he pushes off Travis in adrenaline and rushes at me, slamming me against the wall, his claws scratching at my neck but he is not there for long.Travis snatches him by the
LOUISA “Breathe, Lou,” I whisper to myself. “Just breathe. You can handle this. You have handled worse confrontations. This is nothing.” My parents arrived less than an hour ago and had been shown into a room to wait for me. Tammy had shown up with two caretakers and had even stayed behind to watch over them while another wolf had led me here. Except now… I have been standing in front of the door for more than five minutes and I just can't seem to get my legs to move. “Come on, Lou,” I whisper again, shaking my fingers out. “Just move.” But I don't. I can't. I thought I could handle this. That I could handle seeing them again, but I can't. All of a sudden, I am that girl again. Hiding from her father. Scared. Alone And then… a hand slips into mine. Warm. Strong. Confident. I lift my head to see Travis standing by my side, his eyes on mine, firm. Warm. “You are not alone you know?” He says quietly. “At least… you don't have to be. I am right here with you, if you
LOUISA “So?” Tammy mutters as we head back to the cottage. “How are we going to go about this?”“We?” I ask, surprised as I turn to look at her. “I might not agree with your decisions but that doesn't mean I am going to abandon you. That is your forte.”Ouch. She is still pissed. Still, I can't be mad though. She is not wrong.“I don't know,” I say in answer to her question. “There are so many things going on in my head right now. I know I need a plan to separate her from my father… but I don't know how to go about it. And I still have my kids to worry about.”“What about them?” she asks.“What do you mean “what about them?” ? Where am I going to keep them while I go face my parents?”“I didn't understand… Why do you need to keep them anywhere? What is wrong with the cottage?”“I can't leave them alone, Tammy” I scoff at her. “You have no idea how mischievous they can be. Hell, the las
TRAVISAuthor's note: Hi my lovelies. I am so sorry for the disappearance. I had some personal stuff that took me out but I am back now, and I will do my best not to disappoint. Now back to teg story.“They are being followed,” Mark says as he walks in.“What? Who?” I ask as I look up from the maps spread out on my desk.“Louisa’s parents. They are being shadowed.”“By who? Gaines? Why? He is the one who sent them here.”“Not, Gaines himself, but his people. Some of his wolves. But they are not the only ones. Two of Selene’s acolytes are shadowing Gaines Wolves."“Oh, fuck. This is going to be an issue, isn't it?““Most likely. We are going to need to find a solution to nip it in the bud.”“Hmm,” I mutter as I take a seat. “Has Tammy informed Louisa about their arrival?”“Hmm, she headed over to the cottage early this morning. They should be-”Knock. Knock.“Alpha, it is Tammy,” her voice echoes from the door. “Louisa is with me.”Mark and I exchange a glance before I nod towards the
LOUISA I wake up in a start and for a long second, I remain still, trying to figure out what had woken me up. It is already morning, but not early enough for the sun rays to start peeking through the windows. It had taken me a long time to fall asleep last night. Between being in a new place -a pack, to be exact-, having my children so close to Travis, and then that fight with Tammy, it is a wonder I had managed to even get some shut eye. I hear it again The knock. It must have been what had woken me up. Without hesitation, I get out of the bed, quietly so as not to wake the kids, and quickly make my way to the door Another knock begins to sound just as I pull the door open. It is Tammy. “Oh,” I gasp in relief. Glad that she had decided to come back. “I am so glad you came back,” I rush to say. “I didn't like how we left th
TRAVIS “We have a series of problems,” Mark says as he strolls into my study. “I suggest you brace yourself.” “What is it now?” I groan as I lean back in my chair. “Can't a man get one moment's peace?” “Not if they are an Alpha of a leading pack,” he retorts. “It is the price of greatness.” “Sure, whatever. What happened?” “Per your instructions, we followed Gaines to monitor his movements after he left the pack, and guess who visited him not long after he got home?” “I am not as obsessed with the man as he is with me, so how the hell am I supposed to know that?” I ask. “Who was it?” “Selene.” “Selene? Selene Lance? The deranged witch?” “The one and only.” “Wonderful,” I mutter. “Just bloody wonderful. What could a self made, important, egotistical witch like her want with a misogynistic and backwards man like Gaines?”
